Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Im having plenty of fun and see a variety of weapons. What rank are you?

B+ (Highest A), i don't see how that would change anything.

There's not really a meta in Splatoon as people might expect. So far I'd say people see patterns in what they're trying to see. You can do well with almost any weapon you prefer to use. There's also no organized team play right now so whatever people think is the "best" is mostly just their personal biases.

You may be right.. i guess i'm just hiding the fact that i wish i could play these modes with people i know instead of locked-solo matchmaking. :l

Either way, i just find less enjoyment in ranked for whatever reason.

New mode should be pretty crazy. The added climb wall in the warehouse should be a good addition as it would likely be hard to make it that far into their base without additional entry options.

There it goes my bet that I wouldnt play the game this week... oh well.
Anyway, damn Dynamos will destroy people on this mode!

This will be the mode that will make it painfully obvious they need a nerf. Mobility is even less of an issue than splatzones because the zone this time is a tiny moving platform the slow Dynamos can camp on and spam their attack. It's going to be really nasty.

but I do like the mode. I think the tower path is going to be really long in a few stages.

This morning I played a lot of awesome splat zones for an hour. Now I am constantly getting people who don't even seem to know the rules of splat zones. What is going on?

Did the game recently release in Latin America? I was getting many Spanish and Portuguese looking names this past weekend. A bunch of times they were playing Ranked like it was Turf Wars. A little annoying but I tried to understand because I did that at first.

So true, i felt thrilled and kinda overwhelmed with tension just by looking at the video, LOL.

They were only using really basic weapons in that too. I don't even want to think about what it'll be like dynamo rollers and e-liters going off everywhere

Oh, Mother of God I didn't even think about the Dynamo for Tower Control. Just thinking about teams of that thing swinging it about the tower is truly horrifying. Gonna need some top notch Chargers for those guys.

Yeah no one in the lobbies wears it
Any gaffer have the red vector shirt with ink saver?
If you can't find anyone already on your list you can add me real quick and I'll put it on and join you for a round.

Thanks I'll add you tonight I'm on the west coast and at work now :(

There's no meta in weapons you choose because what you're facing is random anyway, so you have to be prepared for all kinds of playstyles and weapons. When you can team up with friends in August I think then we'll start seeing similar/equivalent weapon setups.

But I do think the long range assault rifles are the most versatile, given the map pick is completely random. I think those weapons (gal .96, squelcher, forge) have the highest number of situations where you will be the player with the advantage.

Just watched the video, not gonna lie the new game mode is both exciting and daunting.

I am concerned whether this will be in rotation along with Splat Zones or not. Also I hope the different ranked modes have their own Rank. If not, then......eeeeeehhhhhhh.

I have a bad feeling this is going to be randomized like the maps. Every four hours you'll be forced to only play one mode in ranked. That would really suck.

What's up with that "toasty" thing in lobby? What does it mean?

It's just a measure of how well you're playing. .5-3 is Toasty, 3.5-6 is Smokin', and 6.5+ is SO HAWT. You gain a point for winning, while you lose .5 points for losing in the Toasty range, 1 point for losing in the Smokin' range, and 1.5 points for losing in the SO HAWT range.

It resets every time the stage changes though. If you talk to Judd he'll give you some money based on your highest rating, but you have to do it before the stages change and it all resets to 0.

I figured this would likely be the case since their man priority seems to be to make sure everyone can play something without waiting too long and not split everyone up between multiple modes

If your rank is the same across multiple game modes that's a pretty bad design decision in my opinion. If you're good at one mode but bad at the other you'll just have to wait four hours in order to play the mode you like and avoid your rank dropping. Better have separate ranking.

Tower Control looks really intense.

Squid Beakons might becomes really useful in this mode when trying to keep up a push. If you get splatted when your tower is in the other team's area, it takes forever to get back to it. If all of your teammates are currently in the fray over there, jumping to them might be too risky.

One Squid Beakon left around the middle area might really slow down a potential counter-push.

The thought never crossed my mind but... Shit.

That certainly would be a really fucking bad idea that I could totally see them doing.

Not not yet. The recent datamine of the game suggests we will be getting S-, S, and S+ ranks later down the line, possibly in August.

That is a much needed change. As an A+ the lobbies I get matched with vary greatly in skill, sometimes everyone else is in the B-tier it's really weird.

I think one thing that bothers me (besides spike being a scam artist) is how the clothes store updates. I'm looking for the red vector tee with ink savers and it never shows up in my store

When are you next available to play? I have that shirt and can wear it for you if necessary.

It's your wins. It's Chill, Toasty, Smokin', So Hawt. You can cash out your wins to Judd in the plaza. You need to do it before a map rotation because your wins reset.

You get 1400 for So Hawt

Ahhh, that makes sense then. Does your ranking go back down when you cash in?

Eh, that reasoning doesn't work just because it's random. It's random because there's no "best" weapon that most people have settled on. Basically weapon balance so far is excellent and this is possibly because there's no organized play to take the abuse to the next level.

That reasoning only works if you're purely focused on defense. How is a dynamo going to follow the tower and keep pushing forward at the same time? It's not as simple as it might seem.

Remember you are facing a certain composition of 4 weapons, not a single weapon. The best weapon concept doesn't and will never exist, but the best composition of 4 weapons will probably surface.

If you pick the zap gun and get in a lobby against 3 chargers and 1 dynamo you are basically fucked. That's what I mean. I'd rather pick a weapon that is effective against the highest number of possible outcomes, I want to feel like I have a chance at making an opening play against any team with my weapon and not depend on teammates.

But on the other hand, if there is a certain combination of weapons that pops up often, say 1 roller + 1 charger + 1 blaster + 1 splattershot then you know that and thus can tailor a strategy that is effective specifically against this meta setup. That doesn't work now, because you have to be prepared to face literally anything.

Whoa. I did not know this. So many nuggets in this game like this.

Talking to Judd often in general is pretty useful, I'm still learning things from him.

A few days ago he told me the reason that the enemy inklings show up on your map sometimes is because they've either stepped in your ink or been shot/damaged. It's why if you get splatted in a shootout you can still see them on your map after you die, or if you watch your map and someone on your team gets into a shootout, the other inkling will appear on your map

You're essentially saying the same thing. You can't pick a single weapon because there's so many weapons and there's so many weapons because people aren't sticking to a particular weapon. Chicken and egg.

going to add you(mrklaw), I'd like that shirt too if thats ok.

hmm, store had the pink polo shirt - bought to add slots to later when I'm lv20. Is the white anchor shirt any good? Ninja + three slots seems good, but what tendencies does it have for the subs?

Damn came back to some good news, the new mode looks awesome to bad it's ranked and we can't play with each other( at least for now). I was just thinking how hard it would be to get some of you off of the tower.

I think I'm more afraid of GAF on the floor versus any single member of GAF on the tower. There's going to be some savage shit to witness when group lobbies become a thing here.

Gonna try to get on tonight. Haven't been able to play till late at night since my wife had our son.

Sometimes I can get in earlier if the wife and kids are sleeping
If you can get help from Azure it's all good.
I'll keep an eye out if you still have the want for it and weren't able to get it otherwise.

Congrats on the kid!
I've been playing ranked everyday since last week and I don't see that at all in the A ranks. Carbon rollers are popular but that's to be expected because they're new and seem to be good.
Been in the A's for a while and there's at least one Dynamo every few games for me. Curse the games where there happens to be more than one on a team. I don't usually stick around after the games been had, though. I like to back out and look for a new lobby. If you happen to do that too... Well, then! I think the only thing left to do is trade locations because I'd rather not play with them anymore. Aha.
going to add you(mrklaw), I'd like that shirt too if thats ok.
No problem.
If there's anything else you're interested in let me know. I might have it. Feel like I got most of the thinggggs at this point.

It's most likely to get Damage Up.
And, must be pretty good to have so many people wearing it! :P

I edited to add this part: The best weapon concept doesn't and will never exist, but the best composition of 4 weapons will probably surface.

The weapon I choose will depend on the team I'm facing. If a meta develops and you start seeing teams using the same formula, then you know so you can tailor a strategy against that particular setup beforehand because the likelihood of facing it is very high. However in random matchmaking, you can potentially face any combination of weapons. It's a huge difference.
