I haven't been following your posts but I think what they are trying to say is that even for people not interested, it still looks amazing. I have no interest in halo but the gameplay I've seen from the halo 5 beta looks pretty damn impressive. not a fan of halo in the least, just giving you an exampe.

Holy shit. Wonder which dev will be able to top this. Sure it's a bit scripted but who cares? Absolutely gobsmacking. Feel like I'm gonna play on of my favourite movies when I was a teenager.

Not surprising to see the usual suspects showing up to share their negative "opinions" it's bound to happen in every positive thread these days.

Game looks great, a lot more like Uncharted 2 which I like very much.
 
I need to watch this a few more times when BlimBlim gets it up. There was literally TOO much to take in. That is without doubt the most impressive action sequence I've ever seen in a game. The truck Nathan was originally on ... the way it spun and crashed, spewing flames while front frame Drake was still fighting on. Frigin' mind blowing. In that ONE demo alone there are millions of photo opportunities, and I'm not exaggerating.

Your criticism is pointless. Not every segment of the game is going to be catered directly to you. You certainly have the right to express that you aren't impressed by set pieces, but there's not really any discussion that can stem from that.

Can you think of a scenario of how that would work in an Uncharted game, keeping in mind that there's almost always a sense of urgency in the series with many different unique areas? I get what you're saying, but a game isn't necessarily worse just for being more linear as long as the experience overall is compelling. Play the game for what it is and appreciate what it accomplishes rather than focus what it COULD have been. I guarantee you'll enjoy more games if you don't try to play armchair level designer all the time.

You can criticize as much as you want, but it is pointless to critize games for things that they are never aiming for. If it is thing they can improve on its ok, but there is no point in pointing out how you want it to be open world style when they are trying to make a intense scripted scene.

I'm not trying to be an asshole here as I'm usually willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, but lately your schtick has been if its a Sony exclusive, you're going to be unimpressed. It seems to be a pattern for you. Maybe that's an unfair assessment, if it is I apologize, but perception is a powerful thing, my friend.

This will be released in what, year 3 of the PS4 being out? I am sure UC5 will top it, and yeah parts are scripted but anyone who is a fan of UC doesn't give a damn.

They already showed a scenario where it works, the PSX demo.

We already got 10+ minutes of varied, open-ended, vertical, emergent combat gameplay.

I think it looks graphically impressive but this sort of cinematic gameplay doesn't do much for me. The first gameplay we saw looked a bit more promising and open but this just seems as dull as ever from a mechanical standpoint.

I've seen plenty of people say they were unimpressed with the Halo gameplay, too. Different strokes for different folks.

If you're already a fan of Uncharted it's probably safe to say you're going to enjoy this one. The sandbox elements in a game that still has the big, loud dumb set piece moments of the predecessors should be great for those of us that enjoyed them.
If you aren't a fan, there probably won't be much other than the more open level design and the appropriately improved AI that goes with it to impress you, and even that isn't a guarantee.
I guess people get annoyed when people that already know they probably won't like a game come in and talk about how they still don't like it. I really don't like the Arkham games, so I don't go into AK threads (outside of those that insist on making comparisons) and talk about how the combat still looks boring to me. I'm allowed to have and share my opinion, but what purpose does it serve in that context? We're at the fourth - and likely last - ND made Uncharted game, it's not going to suddenly become something you like if you didn't previously.

There's a lot to criticize from this video but shooting targets that are irrelevant doesn't help your point. It's like a vegetarian trying to complaining about meat in a butcher shop; that's non-sequitur.

This.

Uncharted will never be some open world game full of choices on how to tackle objectives and wide open areas, it is a scripted linear game with light puzzle elements. And, I'm completely fine with that. I hate the trend that some developers feel to make everything an open world, there is nothing wrong with a tightly scripted linear game. The strengths that such a game can offer is better focus on story, pacing, and unique gameplay elements. When a game goes open world things like pacing and story are usually the first to suffer tremendously, so I'm really hoping UC4 brings back those good UC2 vibes.

Why would I buy a PS4 to compliment my fairly powerful PC if I wasn't interested in Sony exclusives at all? I just don't have a popular opinion over a couple titles that others obviously feel very emotionally invested in.

But the media hyped it up as what it is: a brilliantly done action set-piece. You only have yourself to blame for expecting anything else.
 
Looked amazing. Gameplay, action, movement, set pieces, graphics etc. The attention to details the team has is admirable.

Also, it would not be a true Naughty Dog thread without sour grapes.

I think from a gameplay point of view many games nowadays are really dull if you take away the presentation. Naughty dog games are the exception here as they manage to put gamers so much into their games with presentation and scripted events (which is not meant negative) that most people just don't care so much like they do with other games.

Holy hell it's all just one fantastic set piece. The last portion of it being pretty freaking spectacular. It's like they condensed the trains sequence from 2 and the alley sequence from 3 into one massive clusterfuck of amazing. Love it.

Also nice to see the "not fun" perspective being limited to one poster. It looks awesome to me.

Well that's fine for that kind of scenario, but that's waaaay different than trying to do the same for a city-based chase scene. Even if that city were way more open, you wouldn't be able to deviate much since you'd lose your target. They know this. That's why there are extra paths and options, but they're similar enough to keep the action focused and ensure it all comes together and makes sense.
 
Was expecting to be a little disappointed due to the tremendous amount of hype in the press.

Wasn't disappointed, it looks amazing. It's gonna be a very long wait.

I came in to check out the graphics. Even said I thought they looked good. A couple times now. I like graphics.

Did you read some of the comments made from the journalists? they went further than a brilliantly done action set piece, they said it was impossible to comprehend and revolutionary.

Fair enough. I just don't know what you expected from an Uncharted set piece moment that had you thinking it was going to be anything different than what we saw. Again, it's the fourth game, they're not suddenly going to have a Just Cause grappling hook and wing suit (though that would be fucking awesome) to make the game play drastically different. Like I said, if the more sandbox-y moments don't do it for you, then Uncharted 4 likely won't change your feelings about the series.
 
Aside incredible graphics and set pieces. I'm even more hyped with the end of the video

And I *am* interested in some Sony exclusives. Obviously. That was my point. Why would I have bought a PS4 otherwise? I can play my multiplats on PC so there's no other reason to buy a PS4.

Oh, I agree.

They are doing a brilliant job on what it actually is, and expanding naturally on what worked for the previous games. I'm not saying at all that these super-setpiece moments should somehow be open.

In fact, you can clearly see what is very much a "funnel" in level design in this video.

It starts with a shootout in the market, with different covers and possibilities. You jump into a car, and it has different paths and possibilities while being chased by the truck. Slowly, you make your way down and the level funnels into a chase to the convoy, again with some different paths. Eventually it funnels further into the rope sequence, then the truck, then the car again, all very linear. It all boils over in a shooting-only sequence with no camera-control to top it all off.

It's a very natural, impressive way to slowly take control away from the player as the stakes go up and the director takes over to show you what's happening.

They've mastered the linear setpiece -- as a PART of a more deep, thorough gameplay experience. I couldn't ask for more.

Well, I can ask for couch multiplayer :p

The title is blantant for that very reason, no one will expect him to die because, it's too obvious. But, perhaps, that is what Uncharted justice actually boils down to.
