UNCHARTED 4: A Thief’s End - E3 2015 - Sam Pursuit Gameplay [HQ now available]

It's not realistic but they aren't being battered or physically abused by that. It's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about what he goes through physically in the demo, being slammed around like a toy. Unrealistic situations in these things are fine and normal and that's not what I mean.

I mean, it's a video game that is taking the summer block buster film and making it playable. You really take issue with this?

Especially when games have always been unrealistic. UC fully embraces massive set pieces and over the top action. 90% of the stuff Drake has been through would result in death.

I get where you are coming from in that, action sequences are best if they are designed in a way that make it believable within the realm of fiction. It makes it more intense. But I honestly never felt UC was the kind of genre that would have realistic/intense action.

This was all spectacle, it's what I expect from Uncharted so don't feel much about this one way or another. What is true is that between these set pieces, the gameplay if PSX is anything to go by has improved by a huge amount. Mix the set pieces with vastly improved gameplay from the previous UC games (wonderfully obvious these guys made TLOU) and this is probably my most anticipated game announced for next year.

If someone can edit out the part Sully and Sam are entering to focus on Nate saying "oh, shit" that would be great. Slowing down the frames a bit would make this a great reaction gif.

Damn. That was gorgeous and amazing to boot; having never played the series, this makes 2016 an even longer wait. Thankfully the Collection will get me acclimated with the series!

It's not going to be up on Gamersyde for at least a few days, according to blimblim.

I certainly did not give any time for if/when we would get the video, since I have absolutely no idea. Might be tonight, might be in a few days, might be never.
We certainly are looking, but since we respect the way we are supposed to work (only talk to the publisher, never to the developer unless they contact us first), it's just wait and see until someone at Sony gives us a solid reply.

The point is the type of genre film the games take inspiration from and embrace aren't using real-world rules, and being a video game only heightens that. Nate can take more of a beating than a real person would because he exists in a heightened and stylized version of the world. You can either accept that or not.

I know, I'm a fan of that stuff but I don't buy what he physically endures here. Didn't mean to make a big deal out of it, it's just a game and I'm excited but there's no way in hell he walked away from that like he did let alone still being able to participate in the rest of the action.

Shouldn't have said anything I guess. I fully understand and embrace what this is but I think it's too much.

More of a nitpick/observation. Watching it I'm just like... no... but it still looks damn awesome. No one really needs to defend this to me as I'm there day one.

Always jealous of ppl who haven't played uc2 and/or tlou . You're in for a treat

Not battered or physically abused by that? What in the flying fuck? You know how hard they would hit that water?

she seems to change from game to game

The change makes sense going from PS3 to PS4. Not so much from UC2 to UC3.

This is a good example of all the characters looking different because they aren't being limited by the PS4 the same way they were limited by PS3. The changes with Elena prior felt like them making too many tweaks because they weren't happy with how the character modes look.

UC4 they all look natural. Like this is what they were always supposed to look like.

I was really feeling it when the game looked like crazy taxi at e3. But the over-the-top on rails portion which follows looks more fun to watch than play.

That fire and smoke is CGI Quality, wtf. Nvidia gameworks smoke in Batman AK looks bad now :(.
One is realtime fluid and lighting simulation in a volume and the other is most likely layered animated sprites of an offline effect (what Ryse does on the beach level for example).

Smoke looks excellent, but it's most definitely 100% pre-baked and not dynamic. While gameworks smoke is fully dynamic.

They floated down relatively slowly in a raft and landed safely in water. It's not very realistic but again it's not the same thing, not even close.

......... I forgot how realistic health potions, regenerative health and spells were!

I don't agree with brandon but this is a bad counter-example. Games with potions have defined their own universe as a game in which potions make sense. If the opening scene of Uncharted were Nate falling 100 ft and walking away unscathed, you'd say "Okay, that's how this universe works. I'll go with it." If the first half of the game shows people sustaining realistic injuries, and then Nate survives a 100 ft fall, then the game would be breaking its own rules and that would be an issue.

Personally I did not find the trailer to break the rules of the Uncharted universe.

It isn't really a new thing to the series but it kind of takes me out of it when he should have died or at least suffered severe injuries like fifteen times. It's a game so I'm not going to make too much noise about it but it's not just unrealistic but like way beyond unrealistic. I'm all for crazy antics and over the top action but this can be done without flinging the protagonist around like a ragdoll and expect me to find it even remotely believable.

Otherwise awesome stuff, looks fun and is visually outstanding.

I thought you of all people would understand

I loved the cartwheeling jeep - very A-Team

The rest was like the truck section in UC2(?) only x1000

If this holds a solid frame rate it could be the greatest ever.

That was the most impressive action sequence that I've ever seen from start to finish in a game. Most games don't nail the immersion and there were some lull points where there was too much banter or things got a bit so slow. However, they ascended to another plane of existence with this work. Congrats to the Naughty Gods they've mastered this stuff.

Just noticed how to audio changed when Drake drove through the concrete cylinder on the fields. His voice echoes as he drives through. Probably the least impressive thing out of this video, but still a nice little touch.

But its not in gameplay, its not from any object You interact directly in game, thats why it can look that good.
Its not like this havent been done before.

Still looks awesome, i hope we finally get a game with this kind of smoke in real gameplay.

Our ideas of what is physically punishing varies greatly, if you think the Indy scene is fine but the smashing into shit in Uncharted are worlds apart, we just need to agree to disagree wildly.

Did it sound like Emily rose as Elena? She sounded different.

It's Emily Rose, sounds exactly like her.

This looked absolutely amazing. Might be the first Uncharted game I buy on launch day.

Man, I still feel so conflicted about Uncharted as a series. I love the characters, stories and setpieces, but the rest of the game is one of the blandest shooters ever.

Did you not like prior UC games because so many scenes would have resulted in death?

When did I say I didn't like them? I acknowledged a few times that it isn't anything new to the series and I love the games. It does take me out of it a little but it's not like I'm flinging shit at the whole shebang.

They confirmed on stream its like "mid game" as by now you've learned the core mechanics, like the rope.

And the "driving" he said... interesting, must be more driving at the beginning.

Yes! My favorite part!

It's incredible because it is something you've seen a billion times before in games, but it does it in such a gorgeous way... the tire burning up and that perfectly accelerated dirt trail. SO GOOD.

Forgive me for a dumb question - I have only played a tiny bit of an earlier Uncharted (3, I think)... but on watching that video it seemed like there was quite a lot of cut scene/scripted sequences compared to actual "hands-on gameplay"... is that normal for these games?

This game looks so awesome I'm going to buy a PS4 when it comes out (if I haven't before then) but honestly don't know that much about the series.
