As strong as Tanya is and how widely used she is, I love watching her teleport all around. The particle effects are awesome.

This is great, it's cool to see the number of internationals.

Ultra Street Fighter IV - 79.3% (1,745) domestic, 6.6% Japan (136)
Super Smash Bros for Wii U - 90.19% domestic (1,729), 4.23% Canada (81)
Super Smash Bros Melee - 90.25% domestic (1,676), 5.17% Canada (96)
Mortal Kombat X - 88.99% domestic (1,027), 2.95% Canada (34)
Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN - 76.24% domestic (738), 8.78% Japan (85)
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 - 84.44% domestic (689), 4.53% Japan (37)
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax - 81.01% domestic (354), 10.07% Japan (44)
Killer Instinct - 89.87% domestic (355), 2.28% Japan (9)

Things I found surprising...
Super Smash Bros is more US centric than even Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. Thought they had more foreign players.
Japan is the 3rd and 2nd biggest region for Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct respectively. These games weren't even released there.
Japan came for anime, biggest foreign percentages.
Many Japanese smashers are choosing to go to APEX instead of Evo I do believe. At least I've been reading that for a bit now

I actually really like that Sunday schedule. I'll stream into the ballroom in the middle of MKX and I don't see myself leaving until it's all over.

*stomach grumbles*

Melee/Smash 4 have more players period

also for Smash 4 Japan doesn't like customs

who did you get in your marvel pool?

Didn't sign up for Marvel this year, not really feeling it. Last year was rough and I mostly dropped the game, lol.

Been considering off and on signing up but my pools are all Friday during morning/early afternoon and I wanna keep it that way lol

okay who did you get for street fighter?

looks like the curse has been broken. are these pools even final? don't they end up changing a bunch of people around?

These are all drafts, so I'm going to reckon more than half of these will change around.

I have CTRL | Unknown first round in Smash 4 so at least one high level player :p

So, um, if I were to try and sit down with some players to talk about things for SRK features at Evo, who would you guys be most interested in me trying to talk to and what would you want to know?

I can't like guarantee people cause they're people and have their own agendas, but I will try to talk to a few people and get some fun stuff.

If hype determines order, why isn't Guilty Gear Xrd at a later time, considering the last 2 Evos where anime was super hype, and CEO also showing that even Japanese domination is super hype.

Because Wizard's hype is the hype he meant. That and the hype of moneyhats and stream views.

Xrd being first on a Sunday makes sense. It allows for foreign viewers to watch the game like BB last year. I just don't like Marvel being second to last. I thought it was going to be a Smash game.

Wait, did people actually thing GG was gonna be anywhere but the first event or that Smash would be before Marvel or SF?

This is EVO we're talking about, not a local tourney at your neighborhood Gamestop.

Looking forward to another year of hearing about how SF4 lost viewers. Maybe I'll actually take that Monday off this time.

Of course not.
It's just always hilarious seeing the justifications.

Where is Tekken?
That's the game I'm most interested in knowing the number of competitors from Japan.

Well at least this year it should be clear to everyone that number of entrants means nothing for finals order.

Oh yes it does. This is the justification for giving Marvel the best timeslot instead of Street Fighter.

It's also the reason why the other games not on Sunday get streamed before.

The funny thing is is that even with KOF having among the highest viewer numbers during its first evo, was pushed to 9 am at its second evo despite having that viewer precedent.

You're better off just saying that there isn't an actual justification for this.

Maybe have them talk about really specific things, like a specific match or a specific piece of tech or a specific process they went through for learning X game. Since it's on SRK I imagine it'll be for a more focused audience. FGC interviews tend to be either really generic or really focused on shittalking/blowups, and while those can be entertaining I don't know if I really need more of that.

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been around, been watching our puppy for the first two weeks so I haven't been on my computer where I'm logged in on GAF but I opted to log in now because of Evo pools going up and a certain post that was made.

So yeah I registered under sloanerisette this year instead of Smedwicks because I'm currently (about to be) transitioning! Woo! I was hoping to make a post Sunday because that's when I'm actually starting hormones but because of what was posted today I'm basically rushed to post and explain stuff.

I don't want to get too mad at Curly but yeah, just advice for everyone, please don't do that if they aren't explicitly out somewhere.

Also I registered under sloanerisette (it's a name I've been using since around Evo last year) to motivate myself to take this year for myself and start transitioning, and I've been Smedwicks since mid 2000's when I first started playing WoW, so this wasn't exactly a small decision, really.

By the time Evo rolls around I'll be about 11-12 days into hormones so there probably won't be big changes for those who met me last year, I imagine.

And please you can call me Sloane or Sloanerisette or Smedwicks that's all cool, but please use she/her pronouns, that's all I ask. Even if you don't like me all I ask is that you respect this. If you can see me and call me Smedwicks (which was the way I was addressed 90% of the time last year) then you can sure respect me as a woman.

Thanks all and can't wait to see you in a few weeks

Congrats! Would never have thought you were the Sloane I was seeing occasionally on friend's twitter feeds!

can't use viewers as justification this time around, at ceo mkx (2x) and usf4 (4x?) absolutely demolished umvc3's viewership.

I actually think we'll see a massive dip in viewers between smash and ultra.

sucks that once again ultra has been relegated to the worst time slot, and we will once again not get to see it reach its viewer draw potential

Super Smash Bros is also likely to destroy Marvel and Street Fighter.
Super Smash Bros Melee got like 120k for Apex, didn't it?

Agreeing with this, and I think how they got into their main games, what drew them into the scene, their first tournament experiences, stuff like that is always fascinating to me.

Congrats! Would never have thought you were the Sloane I was seeing occasionally on friend's twitter feeds!

Thanks :D

Marvel has definitely been the most exciting event or tied for being so almost every year I've watched EVO. I think I'd edge it to SF4 either 2012 or 2011, I can't remember which year. Always was great having SF4 at the end so you can relax a bit before knocking out when it's done, because SF4 has been (relatively) up and down over the years. I think it's going to be the best event this year.

That said, I've always been in favour of Marvel on Saturday to close it out, but only if they really dedicate themselves to making Saturday "finals day" in a sense as opposed to running can't make it on Sunday games, which isn't really feasible so long as bigger games will still be running pools concurrently. I'm hesitant to use the word deserve when it comes to Smash finals wanting to be higher up, but it's all in such close proximity anyways it's hard for me to care when nothing is being shafted on Sunday I feel.

I would have swapped Smash and MK's order. Do Smash 2nd so that the Smash players will leave and open up seats for later. Marvel and MKX won't fill up the room as much.
