Was I the only one who enjoyed Resistance 2 when it was released?

I always enjoyed Resistance 2. It was a ton of fun: fast, unique in how the weapons operated, and an absolutely amazing kick ass multiplayer and one of the best instances of co-op I've ever played. Granted, I wasn't on any sort of forums when the game dropped, but as I've gone along, especially on GAF, I've seen a sort of backlash against R2, saying that it was a crap game, not good enough compared to FoM, and pretty much a dudebro COD clone masked in the sort of pulp sci-fi ideals.

So I have to say: Am I the only one who enjoyed it, and in fact, is the opposite in that I absolutely despised Resistance 3?

Yes?

Resistance was always Sony's try hard Halo type game. It really has added nothing to the hubris and texture of videogame history.

Every game does have its fans though. Glad you enjoyed it. History unfortunately will always rate it as the mediocre title it is.

Co-op was GOAT. I wish they would've enabled LAN for it, I would've bought 3 more PS3S just for that.

Funny, I was just wondering this morning if they'll ever release the trilogy on PS4.

I enjoyed the campaign for what it was and the multiplayer for a time. Until people figured out how to abuse the whole perk system, then it just became a frustrating game.

Coop was fun and I was disappointed R3 didn't have it.

As a whole though, they went too much into COD territory instead of sticking with their RFom style, semi horror/survival/shooter.

Got the plat for both R2 and R3

I thought it was ugly and rushed. They made changes to make it play more like Halo.

I kept playing mission after mission, slowly realizing there were no more epic levels. It was all just a stream of checkpoints.

This. So much.

Coop saved that game for me.

I enjoyed the Campaign mindlessly. Great graphics, good shooting but nonsensical plot/story and absurd ending.

MP was meh.

Well, I did enjoy it as well, OP. Though mostly Co-op. Single player was alright, nothing too special though.

Granted I didn't play the first game and only played the first game after completing the third game (which was absolutely stellar btw) and didn't like it as much.

I thought it was a lot of fun, especially the huge multiplayer battles. I found this double melee glitch and abused the hell out of it.

But it wasn't fast and didn't have unique weapons when compared to the first game. MP was pretty bad. co-op was fun but it wasn't enough to save the game.

SP campaign was also pretty bad.

Competitive MP was a clusterfuck. Co-op had bosses that were mindless bullet sponges.

I never finished the campaign. It just felt like a safe, by the books, check list kind of a game.
I didn't want to say generic

I absolutely loved the Co-op and the MP was one of the few to really hold my attention. I loved the chaos of the huge team battles where you could flank and ambush. Nothing like getting a triple kill with a hedgehog grenade.

I wish they would turn Co-op into its own stand alone mini game and rerelease that. The single player was fun but forgettable, co-op stole, the show.

I have no idea what this means.

I did enjoy it when it came out, though.

Campaign wasn't good at all. Felt it was quite poorly designed.

Oh look, a powerful weapon has landed right in front of you. I wonder if there is a big boss coming in the next minute or so...?

Resistance 3 got it right.

Absolutely. It was an experience that I hadn't felt at that point in time, and was one of the few times where I felt large scale battles for console mutliplayer shooters. Only other game to do that was MAG.

First game was great, second and third games had a lot of problems. I enjoyed the second two for what they were but I really regret dropping the cash on 3, I should have known better after 2.

Thankfully, I didn't need to drop a dime on 3, considering I hated it even when I played in beta.

Well I didn't play it when it was released, but I enjoyed it. Actually I didn't even know it was the "bad one" until I read that here. It seems to me that like Uncharted 3 it gets a shit ton of flak for minor changes, even though it's pretty much the same as the other games. If anything 3 was the one to me that seemed CODized, along with far too much melodramatic sap to make it feel more grounded or serious I guess. The only misstep I remember for 2 was not having a co-op campaign.

Nope. I much preferred it to the first game.

More enemy variety, better art direction (distinct locations, colors!), more interesting and memorable scenarios. R1 felt like CoD with aliens, but R2 is more like Half LIfe 2. It also had cool environmental storytelling.

The only things R1 did better than 2 were the weapon wheel, campaign co-op, and health system.

I never played R3 unfortunately. I heard it was quite good.

Agreed wholeheartedly. 3 seemed to me like the one where Insomniac wanted to bring back old fans with the weapon wheel and all that stuff, and it didn't work out at all.

I had a fun time playing it. I remember liking the CO-OP a lot, the single player a little bit and the multiplayer not as much.

Not sure you've used the word "hubris" properly there.

I enjoyed it so much. I especially really liked how it ended and how the lore setup for so much more...something really big. Then, Resistance 3's second half ruined it all though.

The coop was amazing and I still enjoyed the chaotic MP that I actually platinumed the game.

Sure, it took out the weapon wheel and the amazing narration from FoM, but it added enough in story and coop that I ended up not minding that as much as I thought I would.

It seems that they just wanted to quit the franchise with 3. A lot enjoyed the game on its own, but honestly, looking back now, it was more of the gameplay and pacing of the game than the story that I enjoyed. Really absolutely hated how it went in the second half of the game after the train segment... to keep spoilers to a minimum.

Hell, even early in the game, the lore pieces you pick up hint at a much bigger alien world and universe going on, but they still throw it all out by the end.

Probably not, but let's say I was being creative with the language.

Hubris does mean pride, so imagine the history of videogames represented by all the ingenious, creative and fun videogames we mostly agree on as great. That proudful artistic texture is something we can look upon and admire. Resistance is in no way part of that texture.

Hmm, still talking bollocks aren't I?

I have no idea why Resistance gets the hate it does now. I personally enjoyed the franchise quite a bit, but Resistance 1 and 3 were definitely my favorites. I had a helluva time with resistance one both offline and online. But I loved the campaign in resistance 3.

Resistance is a ww2 shooter where you shoot aliens instead of nazis. It doesnt need to do anything groundbreaking.

I don't know why either. FWIW, it was one of the funner FPS shooters out there, and the lore was especially fun to burn through.

It seems the only game that doesn't get consistent hate in the Resistance franchise here is Retribution.

I really enjoyed the second game. so all my friends. I only understood the hate after coming on GAF and frankly, I understand some disapointement, but I don't get the hate it gets

SHUT UP! SHUT UP! MOST OF YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!

OP, you are not alone! I bloody loved Resistance 2. Thank God, there is someone in the world I can share my love of Resistance 2 with!
