Was I the only one who enjoyed Resistance 2 when it was released?

I gotta give that co-op was amazing.

Now the campaign? Ugh. Horrible pacing, shitty mechanics, plot went nowhere, looked kinda bad..
I played the first after the second, and I can't see how they managed to fuck it up so badly.

Can't wait to play the third, though!

Probably not, but let's say I was being creative with the language.

Hubris does mean pride, so imagine the history of videogames represented by all the ingenious, creative and fun videogames we mostly agree on as great. That proudful artistic texture is something we can look upon and admire. Resistance is in no way part of that texture.

Hmm, still talking bollocks aren't I?

Pride, yes, but in excess, which isn't a good look. I knew what you meant, but it seemed an odd way to take the piss out of a perfectly sound game.

To finally answer the OP, no, I'm not nearly as much a fan of R2 as I was the first and third titles. I didn't enjoy any facet of the MP experience and the SP portion no longer has a place in my memory so I can quite literally say it was a forgettable experience.

Yes?

Resistance was always Sony's try hard Halo type game. It really has added nothing to the hubris and texture of videogame history.

Every game does have its fans though. Glad you enjoyed it. History unfortunately will always rate it as the mediocre title it is.

That word does not mean what you think it means, but thanks for showing up.

Also history does not actually rank this series as mediocre, reviews are kind and it has a dedicated fan base. No it wasn't the halo killer it was positioned as - when that was still a relevant goal to strive for. But that doesn't mean they couldn't be great games in and of themselves. There's greys between the blacks and whites - check them out.

Dudes R2 was so much fun, sure it wasn't super polished and the story mode sucked but the online was insane! Your teammates were everywhere felt like a war zone. Or maybe a kill zone 😉 but anyway the guns were all cool and online co op was cool as well! Good times

It has my absolutely favourite Resistance campaign. The moment when I got outside for the first time, I literally stood there for about 15 minutes just looking around. Never happened to me before or since, not for so long.

Resistance is a ww2 shooter where you shoot aliens instead of nazis. It doesnt need to do anything groundbreaking.
No it doesn't. Especially if all it ever wants to be remembered as is mediocre.

Halo is a game where you shoot aliens. The Last of Us is a game where you shoot 'zombies'. Tetris is a game where blocks fall to the bottom of the screen. Super Mario is a game that you run left to right. Shall we continue?

Agreed. And it had tons more originality in the weapons then any FPS game before it, and after.

Even though the game graphically hasn't aged well, R2 succeeds in how it managed to make you feel so small, and feel like a cog in a wheel. Shown especially in this screenshot, even more so with the Leviathan fight in Chicago.

No disrespect, but if you're agreeing with someone who is saying that it reviewed quite well and has a dedicated fan base as if you already know that, why are you asking if you're the only person in the world that enjoyed the game?

Yeah, the graphics aren't very impressive, but that scene, oh man. Also, taking a shotgun and splattering gibs on walls and seeing them slide down doesn't get old :D

Got it for free with my PS3 and a Ratchet & Clank game (QfB I think... maybe...)

I... liked it. Not loved it but it was okay. I got a strong Half-Life 2 vibe because of the "constant running away from everything" mood of the game.

I remember the level in a big city, where you have to
go to the top of a building and shoot a big boss which is casually hanging over your head and won't move until you notice him
. I really like that part, it succeeded to make me feel really small compared to the events of the game.

Oh and iirc, the facial modelisations were awesome, in the cutscene atleast.

Because every time R2 was seemingly mentioned on GAF up until this point, was people saying that it was shit. I wanted to see if there was people that actually enjoyed the game.

Campaign wasn't good at all. Felt it was quite poorly designed.

Oh look, a powerful weapon has landed right in front of you. I wonder if there is a big boss coming in the next minute or so...?

Resistance 3 got it right.

I found that quite satisfying. Mindless shooting in real cool locations are always fun (Prey, Killzone, Halo etc...)

Even as a non Fps fan, always thought the coop was a ton of fun.
But I found the campaign to be lackluster tbh with a few bright spots.

Resistance 2 was a very atmospheric experience for me. I really enjoyed playing in the world it created. It's one of the few games I've played that I actually finished, which is doubly impressive because of the main criticism I have with this game; it's too freaking long. It's so long that I don't think I'll ever play through it again. But that one time I made it through the game? Very good.

I love the entire series. To me R2 has amazing multiplayer, both coop and competitive. Best of all of resistance games.

Sp was good too, but the weakest of the series.

I really would like for sony to continues the series with R4 and retribution 2

Uh huh.

Co-op was awesome, multiplayer was alright, mostly because of how they handled the large playercounts. Single-piece play was a rough experience that constantly overreached its grasp.

No... and Yes...

I absolutely loved Resistance: Fall of Man, what I got from R2 was nothing close to that. Same with R3, closer than two was but still not that R:FoM magic.

The campaign for R2 was forgettable. The Multiplayer was a success in that it worked but as a fun game it truly just was also, forgettable.

As for Resistance 2's Online Co-Op... I haven't had that much again since destiny. Resistance 2 nailed co op and sadly the sony/ps3 hate made people not really try it out as much as they should have.

Sadly they never built on what worked and tried again something new with R3.

This is the failure of Sony management where it can also be seen as s true success of Sony management.

When you see what Naughty Dog can do with free reign, you think sony's hands off approach is great.. when you see that developers make each sequel different from the original of what worked, like Motorstorm, Killzone, Resistance, you see where that approach fails.

It's why I'm glad that GG is doing something new, we will never have that great Killzone 2 Single/Multi player again from them, at least not in the Killzone series.

But I am an oddball.. I also really liked Haze, That is a series that could have grown. Halo Clone or not, it worked but poor timing and support. I really really liked Haze. Sorry.

This is also why I will use this platform to reach out to the right ears if any one can pass the message.

Sony/Naughty Dog, forget the Uncharted Multiplayer. Expand your multiplayer staff and take over the SOCOM series. Thank you, that is all.

Campaign was crap and the decision to kill off hale was dumb. I did like the eerie radio broadcasts by the survivor. That was my favourite part of the single player game (esp when he describes the little kid getting ripped to pieces)

Online was fun tho

I've played through all three console games more than once and enjoyed them all very much. I'd say the third is the best overall but the second had a lot of great moments. I don't understand how people can say "R1 was great but R2 was trash"

Yeah I never quite got the hate, it was poorly paced but the shooting was still fun. R3 was considerably better though, one of my favourites of the generation.

The full 8 player run with hundreds of chimera was something to behold. Always over running your team forcing the team to scramble, was really a lot of good fun. I would love to see a Indy developer or new Sony title take the basic concept and run with it, really flush it out. 8 man co-op for the win.

I loved Resistance 2. Played it non-stop when it came out. The single player teased so much about the series' lore, the co-op was awesome and I really loved the multiplayer. Resistance 3 was still a huge improvement - and the better game - imo, even if it lacked the co-op mode. Multiplayer could have been better as well, but I enjoyed my time with it.

Shame the servers are down; I'd love to play some R2 co-op.

A resistance collection at 1080p 60fps would go down great with me. Plus the amount of annoyance it would generate for haters would also be super enjoyable.

Loved Resistance 2
First console game I played 30 Vs 30 team death match I believe.

But I loved the co-op more
Between the marksman and the healer... Loved both those classes, I would pay $60 just for Insomniac to come out with a stand alone horde mode of that again, that's how much I loved it

Hated resistance 3

The Campaign was solid on a single play-through, it doesn't fair well on multiple play throughs

lack of weapon wheel and the COD-ification really hurt it

You saying its mediocre is a matter of opinion as someone else pointed out the reviews for this series are well received and its sold well. Even this thread has a lot of positive posts for the second title the supposedly worst game in the series.

Resistance was one of my favorite franchises on PS3, in fact back in 2006 R:FoM was my very first PS3 game seeing as it was by default that system's killer Pp at launch.

I didn't know that Resistance 2 wasn't highly regarded amongst us core gamers. Never did know if the franchise sold particularly well for Sony -hope it did.

I loved the campaign, co-op was a revelation and really fun, I loved playing as the medic or the heavy with the huge auger shield and the MP was fun but unbalanced. I remember it coming out on election day I think back in 2008. Insomniac really pushed the 3 games in one angle.

I liked everything about if, and will forever be trophy short of the platinum seeing as onljjenhas been taken down. Never did get those 10k ranked kills. I was about 5700 short. OMGWTFBQQ was fun to get.

I did miss the weapon wheel from the first game tho and that ending... Unexpected.

I only played the campaign, it was ok but forgettable, some cool bosses and fun weapons though.

The part where you are attacked by invisible monsters that one hit kill you about 2-3 seconds after giving an audio cue though.... That was controller smashingly bad and made even worse by the awfully place checkpoints.

That part was so fucking bad it makes me angry even thinking about it years later.

Outside of removing the weapon wheel in favour of the two weapon system, Resistance 2 is a much better game than the first in almost every respect.

I loved it OP and you are not alone, the game was critically acclaimed.

I keep forgetting that for all of the shit R2 gets, it still has an 87 on Metacritic. Makes me happy :).
