I...I don't understand.
But I don't wanna be rude by asking this, but in all seriousness, what is the protocol for this? Is there anyone who was chosen to stand in for Iwata in case this happened since I imagine Nintendo probably felt this might be coming, until they can officially decide a new President? Who is the most likely person?
Genyo Takeda and Miyamoto are the current representative Directors so I guess it will be one of them.
We lost one of our own today.
It's easy to be flippant about death when it happens half a world away, and how you will go about your business tomorrow without a thought about Mr. Iwata and the amazing work he did that improved your life and mine.

This is the man that was a gamer at heart and sacrificed his own paycut for the sake of not getting other employees fired. There wasn't many other presidents like him who was so dedicated and passionate into bringing happiness to people who had played the games which he was involved in. He has made many mistakes, but deep down, he wanted everyone to have a smile on their face.

What a shitty feeling to know that one of the last things he has done as CEO is to apologize for Nintendo's E3. The man must have worked over the last months knowing that he was going to die. He didn't deserve to pass away on that note. :-(
Iwata was a man who truly cared about games and cared about the people who make games.
I've always loved this quote. On one hand, you can look at it like Iwata is a gushing Sakurai fanboy, which makes it really funny. On the other hand, this is an interview where Iwata just foregoes all formality and genuinely talks about how he admires a former coworker. It's really unusual in the best kind of way.

I owe you much, Mr. Iwata. You are responsible for many great recent Nintendo memories. I will personally miss you and fondly remember you and your contributions, and I look forward to Nintendo's future as I know you would want me to.

Judging by the press release, it looks like Genyo Takeda is now president of Nintendo. Wikipedia says that he joined Nintendo in 1972, and was promoted to his current position when the integrated research division was founded in 1981. He mostly works on improving hardware for home consoles and handhelds, but sometimes develops video games. In software development, he is notable for creating the Punch-Out!! and StarTropics franchises. He also created Nintendo's first arcade game, EVR Race, in 1975.

I disagreed with a lot of his business moves(some I felt being downright anti-consumer), but he was clearly a passionate and talented individual, and he'll be missed. I'd like to think he was hamstrung into doing things as a corporation that he didn't personally agree with, but we'll never know. He'll be missed.

It's pretty damn cool that even though I've never met the man, I feel like I've connected with him through the games I've played.
Shows how this little medium of ours transcends the physical. The love and care he put into his games reached me, just another average joe on the other side of the planet.
