Iwata loved what he did and he did it with an immense passion, no doubt about it. It showed in everything he did game development wise. He simply had a huge impact on Nintendo as a company for decades, and a Nintendo without him is a strange thing to contemplate for me. He died far too young IMHO, such a loss.

I think the banner talk is silly personally. I've seen so many people discuss and comment on Iwatas passing with stories art poems etc. The industry and community knows who Satoru Iwata is and what hes done for gaming. Go play a video game and have fun instead argueing over a banner.

I may not have my Wii U anymore...but I think I'm going to take the day off work today. Go to an old ma and pa's game store and see if they have a copy of Super Mario Strikers sitting around...oooh! And maybe a copy of Twilight Princess for old time's sake, used of course, since I'm borrowing my parent's Wii for the time being, to play Mario Party 5 again.

We've had the rainbow banner for weeks, nobody can really complain that it hasn't been recognised, I think just one day would be enough for any celebration/mark of respect.

I should not have tried watching that at work. Nearly lost it when he said the white gloves make him feel kind of like Mario, had to go and hide in the toilets to get my composure back.
I lost my dad to cancer when he was 62, and that was too damn young. 55, good lord, that's terrible.

I read the news this morning and I was so devastated, I didn't know what to do. I felt like crying but tears wouldn't come. So I started drawing.
Nintendo has been and still is a major influence on my life and Mr. Iwata has been a huge part of that as well. If it weren't for Nintendo I would not be where I am right now. And I don't mean this just figuratively. My dream of becoming a video games translator was inspired by Nintendo and it's why I'm in Japan right now. I will probably make a trip to Kyoto next month and go pay my respects at Nintendo's HQ.

OH MY GOD. This is the closest I've got to crying for sure. I haven't cried in years and recently went through some emotional heavy stuff which amazed me in the lack of tears it produced, but this is hitting me so hard. Such beautiful heart wrenching words. " Although you may have been a little selfish for the first time ever by taking this journey." This is the line that almost made me lose it ;.;

The man's a legend, his influence has touched us all and I am so sad to see him go.
A victory for equality is relevant for everyone I think. Especially in a country as developed and big as the US. And by going with this banner, it shows to people that neogaf is meant to be a place for people of all genders, sexualities and races. It represents the line of thinking to approach others as equals. And in that sense I think it is highly relevant (especially given some of the industries issues), even though I live in a country where this is already pretty normal (The Netherlands).

I want to leave the thread but where would I go...the warmth is so deep in here. This is bonding that Nintendo is all about... This is why we sat next to eat shouting and screaming and laughing from NES days on Super Mario Bros to SNES with Mario Kart...my gosh the N64 era where rooms full of friends gathered for Goldeneye and Smash...we lost a pioneer for FUN....a visionary of smiles...memories that worth more than money of any amount. Memories that take me back to a smile at any random time. The Melee savior...always in my HAL of memories...no longer Earthbound...on the rainbow to Dreamland...Ballons...sheesh...

Pokemon Silver was the game that got me into Nintendo. I played it many years after it released though, because I mostly played on PlayStation when I was younger, but it convinced me to get a DS, and I've been a huge Nintendo fan ever since. It's strange Iwata's decisions really got me into Nintendo games and many other people too, I'm sure.
I don't really know what to say. He is such an important person. He will be missed.
