Any idea what it says?
It says "Place of funeral" on the front , and on the left side the little letters say Iwata was Nintendo's CEO basically.

Oh and Iwata's name is at the top.
Maybe I'm not completely accurate because my Japanese is still not great, but that's the gist of it from what I understand.

Yeah. I'm not one to get caught up in celebrity death grieving, but I was surprised by how upset I was this week.

I think someone mentioned it before, but I feel this is similar to Robin William's death: a unexpected passing of a well loved and popular figure.

I also think the fact that Iwata directly addressed us fans a lot makes this feel a lot more personal than the usual celebrity death as well :(

Attending Iwata-san's wake to give my thanks and condolences. Miyamoto-san's eyes are red. It's also heavy rain in Kyoto.

my copy of Pokemon Soul Silver should be here today or tomorrow! not the version he directly worked on but his achievements are still accounted for.

Thinking about a sad Miyamoto makes me sad.
Miyamoto is Joy: The Person. He's Santa Claus.

Miyamoto is probably taking this harder than anybody else. It was pretty clear that he was basically Iwata's right hand man. Thankfully he hasn't retired yet, and will still be around to implement Iwata's vision.

Out of everyone who probably understood Iwata best I'm sure it was Miyamoto.

They seemed to have the same understanding of what they wanted in gaming.

For it to be fun.

md99, NinjaBoiX... please go discuss your
shitty
opinion elsewhere.

This is a thread about a sad news. Even if you're not touched by Iwata's death you should at least have the decency to respect himself and his family.

So don't try to analyse if he "deserves" or not all the emotion around his death. Don't judge people who are emotional around this. Go play some games or do anything else if it's just an "everyday news" for you.

Damn looking up HAL I didn't even realize one of my favorite games ever Vegas Stakes was done by them. Holy shit I might buy that on the VC when I wake up later and play it for old time's sake. And that NCAA Basketball game for the SNES too.

It's particularly sad to now see an influx in thoughtless and insensitive posts coming out of the woodwork. Is it just because the shock of the news has worn off for some users so people think it's more acceptable to say some of these things now? How damn embarrassing and pathetic would it be for our us if we, generally perceived as one of the most in-tune and passionate gaming communities in the world, got THIS of all threads locked?

Let's all just chillax to Fi's Farewell, take a step back, and conduct ourselves in the same tone Iwata always did: respectfully.

I wonder if the wake and funeral will have any kind of unique or Nintendo-esque touches, or if they'd feel that would be too inappropriate. I guess if there's anyone that would be appropriate for it would be Iwata though

i'm just hoping it doesn't get washed away by the typhoon that's making landfall... *looks out window* like right now

I can only imagine Miyamoto being happy or furiously angry and flipping tables and shit

I can't imagine him being upset and sad

The wake and funeral make it all too real. I keep reading this interview with Iwata and Itoi from several years ago and I've come to the conclusion that it would be almost impossible to calculate what has been lost with Iwata's passing. He really was a treasure and a true visionary.

Oh well, guys, Iwata stood for love and happiness as well, it's Nintendo's motto to make fun games after all. So let's just consider the universal message of love, all those positive messages and gestures towards Iwata, remembering his legacy etc. Love!

I agree, this thread is more than enough, Iwata you were a great man.. may your spirit live on RIP

To get back on topic:

I'm still saddened by losing such a great figure, but I'm sure his family and those close to him are experiencing grief beyond my own capacity. My condolences go out to all who knew him as they can't replace him in their lives and that will surely cause a lot more pain than I am going through. I hope the wake and funeral are beneficial and help them process greif in their own way. I've seen it destroy people, I wish them strength on such a black day.

Bit of an odd question but does anybody know a brick and mortar store that sells plastic fake fruit? I'm finally gonna go to Nintendo World to pay my respects and I wanted to leave a plastic banana as a token of remembrance. I would've liked to leave a real banana but those rot quickly.

I hope nintendo makes a special Nintendo Direct, that's nothing but a tribute to Iwata. With various devs talkiing about him.

Well they absolutely should do a tribute in some way, and it should be done in the nintendo way that iwata upheld.

Its just not going to be the same without him and while the sales werent too hot lately i really felt the passion coming through in the quality of games we got on the wiiu. The nintendo quality was never better and i have to imagine he was a huge part of it.

I guess it was expected to hear that Miyamoto is sad about all this.

The contrary would have been probably worse. :(

It's still sad to know that this guy :

Just lost a friend and more probably, a fellow family member at this point.
I just wish them the best for the future.

I think some people need to remember that it isn't specifically what a person does for a living that makes them relevant emotionally to a stranger. This individual had a bearing on the lives of many people he never met, and some of those people will be thankful to him for that, regardless of if he was the janitor or CEO. I was a bit upset when James Gandolfini died, because I could relate to one of his characters, not because he was a mafia boss, but because he was a fundamentally flawed person, as are we all, and it's rare to see that portrayed so well. So even though I never met the man, and he was likely very different from his portrayals, his death was of note to me. I doubt this is different at all for those getting upset, even from afar people can alter our perspectives, lives and livings. Those saying 'lol just a CEO' should perhaps keep this in mind.

So while this is little more than a bit sad for me, I can totally understand those who feel a greater loss, even though he was essentially a stranger.

I watched the entirety of the video where he holds the banana and while it's odd it's not too confusing as he does it straight after the showing of DK Crash Course!

Nintendo direct sounds like Iwata initiative, which he actively pushed to the point that he's doing it himself. I'm not even sure if there will be another Direct, or will they keep the same format. Nintendo seemed to like the directs though.

Iwata Asks, now that's gone for sure. You can have like Reggie Asks or Miyamoto Asks but it's just hard to find someone with a long history in Nintendo, with a matching set of technical/business knowledge that can question developers from either side.

I used to think that Iwata's Asks is a set of question set by the PR team for Iwata to ask, but with the later IA and how Iwata responded to developers, it's hard to think a PR team could do that.

This is pretty crazy getting posts from Iwata's wake.

Glad to hear that some of the Nintendo big names made it like Miyamoto.

i almost wish we weren't. give the family and friends space right now. it has to be hard enough but people snapping photos and posting them online would irk me if that was my friend or relative.

I really hope I can visit his... gravestone? Memorial shrine? I'm not sure how Japanese culture honors the dead, but visiting whatever marker is set up in Iwata's memory - even if it's years down the road - is now on my bucket list.

I'm sure they'll find a way to keep it going.

On the one hand I'm in agreement, but on the other I think it speaks a lot for how well-loved the man was around the world that people want to be part of this in some way, and pics are all we have.

You probably want a toy store. They often do that kind of thing for toy picnic / cooking sets. Might not be 1:1 scale though.
