Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

Think it's safe to say that neither Momochi, Infiltration or GamerBee would have made it as far as they did if they didn't use multiple characters.

Wonder how long the character loyalists will stick to their guns, especially with CapCup later this year.
The pocket Elena is too good.

I think at this point any character who doesn't at least go even with Elena shouldn't even be in the top 10 of the tier list.

And now for the question folks ask themselves once a year...

I'd like to get back into USF4...

And I'd love to start playing marvel again but the netcode is ass

Do you guys think it's too late to pre order SFV in order to get beta access? Thinking about doing it today but I'm worried I won't get a code in time.

For me, I'm gonna try to play more anime in general and Skullgirls. They had the hypest top 8.

EDIT: Also I really wish the title was Fighting Games Weekly|Frauds Among U.S.
lol

I really need to pick GG:xrd back up. I hate playing on a ps4 pad though :( (it's more spaced out than a ps3 pad and hurts my hands)

TTT2 and T7, I was almost ready to say fuck T7 because of the sidestep change and all of the other stupid decisions Namco has been making. The top 8 at Evo showed that the changes work really well together, and while I still hope ss is buffed a lil, I can't wait for the game.

USF4 and SF5: I usually fall asleep to USF4 top 8's but for Evo I decided to keep watching. The losers final was one of the best sets I've ever seen. As for 5, the game looks really good right now, and seems to have fixed a lot of the problems I had with 4. I'm worried that the game might be too simple, but in the end SF5 is still the game I'm looking forward to the most due to the popularity it will have. Going to go ham when it comes out.

GG Xrd had an amazing top 8 and is the 2D fighting game I'm enjoying the most. Can't wait for the update.

All in all I'm just excited to play fighting games, Evo was hamlike

So did Mr. Wizard even try to justify the ArcSys hate, or did he just realize there's no point since it's so obvious at this point.

The real reason Chou/Superboy burst into tears was because he didn't get a golden stick. Madcatz pls.

Also, I don't get the title. Is there something clever about it that I missed?

Furthermore, Marn is moving back to america, for Chipotle, SFV, and shenanigans.

Heading back to America. I'm coming back to become the best SFV player. Be ready. My first meal back will MOST DEFINITELY be CHIPOTLE!

there's usually players referred to as gods in fighting games.

They all took Ls

I wish taking those Ls would change the us mindset, but fuck no that's gonna stay the same until SF5 if they CPT grows and some fools get the right idea and set up a infrasturture to raise the base level of the scene up.
Until locals and majors have several killers that are not known US will always be weak.

And now for the question folks ask themselves once a year...

Hmm, top 8s of Melee, SG and Smash 4 made me want to put much more time into them. Melee especially. I'm not really sure where to go in 4 though. Feels like I haven't improved at all lately. I'll figure something out. I enjoyed watching UMvC3, but I don't think I'd like to ever go back to it. Too many things about it just annoy me when playing unfortunately. :x

I'll write some thoughts when I get back to Seattle.

Elena healing strat only works if both players are willing participants in it so the ultra isn't that broken. Even then can just blame focus.

It actually reminded me of last years evo finals. That fireball spam just played into the opposing players hands the whole time.

At least infiltration managed to realize that and tried to adapt.

In general, I want to play them all lol, even if some of them just casually. Although maybe not Mahvel after this EVO.

I will continue playing Smash 4, and trying to improve my game, but until my adapter arrives I am in 3DS prison hell.

I cannot wait for Revelator Johnny has been my main ever since I got into GG, I want to see what changes he has.

In terms of getting into fighting games I never tried before, I will definitely try to give P4U a try, never really played it despite liking both persona and fighting games, P4U's Top 8 was great and made me really interested in the game.

Watching Xrd and USF4 had me thinking like "man I should give these games more time" but nope, not gonna lie to myself about that, it's probably not gonna happen. I've been on break from TTT2 and watching T7 made me want to get back into that, and that much I probably will do.

I really just want to play SFV and T7 but they're so far away it's not worth thinking about.

Alright I am tallying up the EVO Nostradamus competition right now.

Some points/changes:

*I am going to be throwing out the "how many players cried" question. It's proving to be too ambiguous in some cases. I think it's actually 3-4 players but there could easily be more and I don't want to go through hours of footage freeze framing + zooming at player's faces to look at tears.

*I am going with Persona as lowest viewed top 8 game at EVO unless proven otherwise.

*I originally debated giving people partial points for getting within 1-2 numbers of guessing the number of characters in the games (so if you guess 13 characters for SF4, you would get 4 points as opposed to getting 5 points for saying 12). But since I didn't specify in the rules, I am only going to be giving full credit or no credit. I can use this for tie breaker as well because this thing is becoming much closer than anticipated.

*Negaduck was the ONLY PERSON who correctly guessed the "new fighting game" question and he even guessed who was going to make it!

*No person guessed the Marvel gods question right and no one called KBR winning. Pretty much every other question in there someone got right.

*Only two people got the Tekken x SF question wrong... I applaud the ballsy bet though!

Right now the people who are in the running to win this are:

Commanderpepper
Negaduck
Horseress
Crash-14
Pixelish
Mr.X
Countblackule
Famicom
Perro

All have over 50 points right now but this was using different criteria so there's going to be a couple of pass throughs. No one cracked 60 points.

Right now the difference between #1 and #2 place is 1 point and the next 3 spots are tied! So yeah definitely need to be doing a lot of rechecks.

Can you develop a little on those changes and other decisions ? Thanks.

A lot of people are annoyed with Tekken 7 in certain areas like how it's not adding revolutionary new mechanics, has the same costumes for returning characters, bad designs for some of the new characters (lucky chloe), and bad marketing.

But I'll just leave one of my comments from TTT2 OT here after playing the game:

I can say that if you're looking for drastic evolution in the gameplay system, then obviously you're not going to find it here. But after playing the game, I've come to the conclusion that it's sometimes good to take a step back and just focus the game on being fun. It's not adding revolutionary mechanics like TTT2 but it is doing a lot more to keep the game exciting and fun to play. It has the best hit effects and sound effects of any fighting game I've played to date and the hype slow motion in clutch moments along with the already beautiful visuals just all comes together very nicely and makes the game very satisfying to play. If you like Tekken, you'll like this. Especially if there are certain moves you love landing (like how I love landing Nina bitch slaps), this game really amplifies that feeling.

TTT2 did too much at once and made it difficult for newcomers. Tekken 7 is going in the opposite direction of pleasing the newcomer but at the same time is very satisfying to play that old fans will be happy with it too. Especially if you're tired of the randomness in Tag 2, going to back to 1v1 in this was very relieving. No longer have to worry about raw tag hopkicks or maintaining health for two characters. Tekken 7 is less stressful than Tag 2.

The overwhelming positive reception people have had when playing the game is very much in line with what I have to say as well about the game. There's only a few small minority (that includes JDCR) that don't like the game and I guess no game can please everyone.

So... wut happened to Justin?
He was my pick to win UMvC3 :(
