If folks don't like KBR for personal reasons and choose not to congratulate him for his achievement, that's fine and they have every right to. However, choosing this moment to air dirty laundry can only be seen as a way of trying to devalue his achievement. Why bring this up now of all times when it's happened in the past? Why not before now? That is why folks are mad at this stuff. It's opportunistic and trying to cut someone down from the spotlight that they're in now. That is why people will ask for information when it's brought up.
There's something to be said about playing what you want whenever you want. I think most of the time Evo weekend when I was playing it was either Melty Blood or Aquapazza -- so it's pretty damn clear that I don't give a flip about tournament relevance.
And if I played Nanase, some of those match-ups would make me want to jump in a wood chipper.
GO1 was using F-Akiha through the tournament and in casuals, and started playing C-Arc when people were actually winning games against his F-Ahika. His C-Arc is sooooooo goddamn cheap. :x

well I think its because of the money issue. He just won evo so he has money. Thats why I mentioned that I saw on twitter somebody saying "hey so about that gas money for driving you to EVO" after talking about ricki "bum" comment. I agree completely with what you are saying but I think unfortunately on this part, the timing is due to him having a way to resolve the personal issue he has with some people

My cousins came over when MKX Top 8 was starting. They pretty much hate fighting games and will never play anything with me (except Soul Calibur maybe like once a year), but they were hooked on watching it right up until they had to leave, which was right after the bracket reset.

yeah it seems like Evo has a lot of appeal for people just generally interested in gaming or competitive events, just judging by the amount of gaming journos/devs that tweeted constantly about the SF4 finals. I don't recall anything like that happening for LCS or the International even though those are "bigger" events.
In a lot of ways, Evo is a better platform to evangelize esports than actual esports. The amount of genuine energy and enthusiasm from everyone involved just immediately lets people understand why it matters.

It's pretty likely money on most accounts but my point really doesn't change much, I think. If it's money, going to KBR in private to get it back or at the very least asking for it back in public in a neutral tone is the solution.

If capcom wants to make actual esports moves, do what NRS did. Have a costume for sale and the proceeds from it can go to funding tournament pot bonuses. That was a damn good idea.

They might have done it too, but NRS has pointed out multiple times that their recent pot bonuses were from the sale of the Blue Steel Sub-Zero skin.
Some people just wanna make a show of it to embarrass others. I don't even think they care if they got money back so long as they get to drag someone's name through the mud.

I've seen a lot of that, and I do agree that shit gets real petty real fast. I don't wan tthe dude attacked.
I have seen some pretty basic "eh, don't like him much, not too excited about it" been greeted with "lol fuck you, stop being one of those top player haters". All I want is for the people already uncomfortable a bit to not be made to feel more uncomfortable is all. Which I've seen happen so I made a basic quip about it.

Kind of wish they had given Evo the bigger payout over ESL.
ESL season 1 finals lacked a lot of hype because the crowd was small as hell and the format was just stupid it took them almost 6 hours++ to get done with a 16 man bracket because of so many pre recorded interviews and breaks.
Evo MKX had almost ten times the viewers of ESL finals too. End of the day still a great idea though.
SFV Ken 3rd Strike Skin = Mad money for tournaments if they decide to do it hahaha.
valve gets people even more hype by having a vote-off between characters for major arcana cosmetics. it'd be cool to have some kind of polling and global community stuff like that built into the online hub,

The FGC will have drama over anything. I think half of the members in the FGC live to create drama. The unemployed one anyways... yea I'm talking to you so called "top players."
It's still a wonder how LoL and DOTA2 are bigger than FG's in terms of esports and viewership. Obviously things seem to be changing slightly, but MOBA's seem to be very non-casual viewing friendly whereas FG's are the exact opposite of this and yet a major for LoL will generate as much if not more than EVO peak viewership.
LoL is free and on PC. Those two factors make it huge in places like Korea because a lot of people frequent PC cafes.
Plus a lot of Koreans shifted focus from Starcraft to League because of a myriad of factors and wanted something to keep their APM up.
It was definitely one of the highlights of the night for me. Then again, I play Elena so I'm probably in the minority

I don't know man... I started playing LoL about 2 years ago. I play LoL like 95% of the time now occasionally I'll play a fighting game. And I took fighting game serious during the MVC2 era so I've been here for a minute.
In terms of watching LoL is about a light year ahead of FGC. The only thing the FGC has over LoL is the raw emotions you see at like EVO Grandfinals. Everything else including the 2nd biggest major (CEO), is just a joke. I haven't paid any attention to any majors, at this point EVO and CPT are the only two must watch for me in regards to fighting games.
League of Legend's LCS (League Championship Series) blows FG streams out of the water in term of quality. I still think EVO is king but #2 to #10 is all LoL stuff, for me at least (In terms of tournaments, events etc...).

But yeah, I feel like all of this community stuff revolves around social media blowups even if it isn't the main thing people do. It's a bit warped that people perceive someone's wariness at engaging publicly in a negative manner as them teasing the blowup but refusing to let them get their release.
Basically, we've come to a point where "some people have personal issues with KBR which aren't game-related" sounds more like the headline to a gawker article than something people actually say to each other.
I mean in terms of watching the games when you've never picked them up in your life. By default it's easier to understand two people beating each other up until a life bar gets to zero vs watching a bunch of people try and protect lanes and destroy another teams base.

Well for one they are on fucking time, you know exactly how long the break is, how long the intro are, and approx when a certain match will be on.
The color commentary is on point.
The play by play commentary is on point.
They even distinguished who is what, and you know what role each commentator have. Sorry but i cant stand James Chen doing both. They have notes and key points to hit, and don't give us the same story over and over. I watch maybe 8 hours in total of EVO 3 day period and i heard the story about peypeyday not going to TGS until his friends made him like 3 times.
The analysis desk is one point, shows they do their homework (those guys do research like Tuesday and Wednesday, prep Thursday, and then walk through Friday, before going live on Sat and Sunday)
Replay is done right away when something important happened and with fine detail. They have extra monitors to pull up stats and facts to spill out during the match. For example X player pick a certain champion (we call characters) they can look up their win rate in both regular games played at home, or professional games. They can grab stats of how they did, what build they did etc...
Every week there is a game of the week, and a story line usually built around it. Like X player is facing his old team, teammate, a rivalry whatever it may be.
Stats during the game is displayed well, so you can see for yourself what builds, build paths, how much gold a player has etc... unlike fgc overlay sometime blocking you see how much meter someone has.
and last it has that team element for you to get invested jn just like the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, l, EPL etc

Yeah, I understand. That kind of stuff shouldn't get a lot of flak if it's just one ol'line.
At the same time though. It's a strange sentiment to just put out there and it begs the question of why. It's not the same as saying "I don't know X so I'm not excited" or "I have no feelings on X so I'm not excited." Those statements are a lot more transparent to someone reading it.
Fighting games are split between too many different games/platforms/players. Until there's that one game with actual good infastructure/self sustaining business model, it can never compete with the Top 3 games right now.
Dota2 . Sequel to the original. Very complex and has a lot of depth.
LoL. The casual version of dota.
Csgo - The third attempt at emulating one of the greatest games of all time.
Fighting games has the same problem Starcraft has. People like watching both fighting games and starcraft, but they hate playing them because they are either think they are not good at it or they dont know how to play it. I personally can't play starcraft casually. Id have to honestly put so much effort to play it. It's practically impossible to mess around outside custom games. I can't fuck around when the basics of the game are fairly difficult. I don't remember hotkeys and never will. However, I can play CS or dota 2 casually and not worry too much about high apm/execution/build orders/timings/ mass micro/macro, etc. Ultimately what it comes down to is fighting games and starcraft have more viewers than people actually playing them. The funny thing is dota and league kind killed SC simply because its just easier to manage one hero than 100 units and multiple bases. I can play fighting games casually, but only after taking the time to learn and getting my shit kicked in by ST vets on ggpo like 7 years ago.
Dota2 has a new players stream every TI to break it down james chen style to make viewing it easier, and league is.....well it's casual dota. It's depth is so limited that following it easy as playing it.

I would agree if it's like a footsie battle in SF4. However in Marvel and anime games fighting games are just as confusing as any other.
Example Marvel 3.
Player 1 has 3 characters alive with 20%, 15%, and 100%, no meter, no x-factor.
Player 2 has like Doom + Ammy alive with X-factor, and 4 meters. Player 2 is also pressuring player 1 in the corner.
You don't have time as a commentator to set up the scenario (of player 2 getting that final hit, killing, and then doing set play and then explaining that set play that's about to be executed. Then explaining why that set play works, how it works, and why it's going to work, or any flaws in that set play where player 1 can survive ex... Sent hard driving out etc..)
There's no build up it just happens.. and happens fast.
Stick malfunction is apparently making rounds too but I can't find video for that. Razer must be flipping if this is true.

FGs are tough on commentary so they will always have that disadvantage over MOBAs, RTS or other slower games.
Sure you can't set everything up in the moment but you can usually do more than most Marvel commentary teams, which is just yelling and going OOH over and over.
I think the best job of this was 2012 (?) EVO Super Turbo with Ultrachen on commentary. ST is a very fast game and I imagine most watching weren't intimately familiar with the game but they did a good job of both conveying hype and explaining what was going in during and between matches.
