Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

got back couple hours ago. Didnt do as well as I wanted to do in sf4, went 2-2, but that was expected since I havent played in forever. Also went 2-2 in guilty gear but that was because like 4 people were disqualified from my 6pm pools lol. Met countblackule and lost my 10 bucks to him free. I think he was the only gaffer I saw outside of seeing vulva's match on stream. I think I saw anne walking around and Q but wasnt sure/was doing other stuff so I didnt say anything. Sad I didnt see others

Also sadly couldnt make it to the vsav tourney since I woke up a bit late and had no idea where the byoc area was, so sorry notworksafe

Overall I liked my experience there. Hung out with the AZ crew like driftwood, velociraptor, and hamad's brother so I got to get bodied by them. When count came to my room, mbr was there as well playing sets so I got to get bodied by him as well. Not sure how I feel about ballys as a venue especially with the rules like no food or drink in the ball room. Marvel finals were alright imo, crazy stuff but since I dont have a deep interest in the game didnt really care outside of hoping ray ray would win. Street fighter was awesome except gamerbee vs infiltration chun vs elena. The whole match came down to whether bee was able to get a healing ultra off or not. Not much else really seemed to happen in that match. Dont know if I'll make it next year due to how much it costs to get there but I'll see.

Definitely hype for street fighter V as well

I also thought the sound setting for the finals at least for street fighter was all messed up. Too loud and too much bass. Also for real why couldnt they have just given kbr a microphone? Was it really that big of a deal? Have no idea what he said

damn they fit that tall ass thing into their bag? i just brought in a few beers lol

e: i remember before evo was serious about selling food/drink we used to just bring whole bottles of booze and get super crunk sitting on a blanket in the ballroom

can you guys think of what your favorite sf4 sets of all time are?

mine are probably infiltration v gamerbee losers finals at evo, haitani v juso at tgs 2013 and daigo v gamerbee at dreamhack 2013

Poongko Seth Vs Daigo Yun - Evo.. 11?
Sako Cammy Vs Daigo Ryu - Godsgarden Online
Momochi Ken Vs Tokido Akuma FT10 - Topanga A League 4 playoff place
Justin Abel/Boxer Vs Daigo Ryu - Evo 09
Daigo Evil Ryu/Ryu Vs Momochi Ken/Cody - Stunfest 2015 Grand Finals + Winner's Semi's IIRC.

I'm sure I forgot some but these ones come to mind.

Daigo vs Momochi Stunfest 2015
Daigo vs Infiltration Capcom 25th winners finals
Momochi vs Infiltration SEAM 2015
Sako vs Momochi Topanga World League
Bonchan vs Valle EVO
Nemo vs Infiltration Red Bull

It's hard to think of matches from a couple of years ago as I could be wrong about how they were, but I remember Mago vs YHC Mochi being awesome.

I hope everybody enjoyed the Vampire Savior tournament on the MadCatz stream! That was a difficult tournament to run, but luckily it all worked out in the end.

And now for the question folks ask themselves once a year...

For me, I'm gonna try to play more anime in general and Skullgirls. They had the hypest top 8.

EDIT: Also I really wish the title was Fighting Games Weekly|Frauds Among U.S.
lol

I had been planning on putting more effort into Hokuto no Ken, but at EVO me and my friend Juno played a 3 hour casuals session with K.I, the best HNK player in the world. It has me motivated to try a bit harder in the game.

That sounds awesome. Honestly, if there was an easy way to play it online with others i would put a bunch of time into it. Last i tried emulating it, it just wasnt desirable. And my pc isnt shit. Sigh. A game i like so much but cant play.

Some people don't like KBR because he used to beg for trips to tournaments and never paid gas or stuff. Also asked for housing without paying anything.

I'm not even blowing him up or anything. If you follow the FGC guys (specially the socal ones) on twitter you know that's the case

Killer Instinct, once it is out for PC. I also enjoy playing Skullgirls, it a good game and also the closest to Marvel vs. Capcom I can have on PC. I might get SFV depending on the roster, too.

I'm glad our lunch took forever to get to us lol

Yeah, both last year with KI and this year with MKX the bass was heavy

And shit Ultra nearly blew my eardrums out the first bit lol

Idk what y'all are talking about. Aaudio for MKX seemed fine. My ears could be messed up though.:/

Hope you and Dadwicks made it home safe! I felt so rude not saying bye (sorry!). Nice hanging out with you lot again. :)

Evo2015

This was the first year a NRS game was entertaining to watch all the way through, imo. On that note, hands down, best Evo since I started going. Needs less Marvel coin flips, more KoF.
A friend, who's more into FPSs, has been converted to fighters after this weekend, haha.

This seems really petty to me. If KBR and these guys made an agreement that he will pay them back for housing and driving him around and KBR never got around to actually doing that then I can see a reason for bringing this up now. If that wasn't the case and they did those things for him no strings attached then it's kinda lame to go on Twitter with your hand stretched out saying "Hey, remember that one time when I ..."

I know he's had alot of help along the way, but people waiting until now to blow KBR up on social media after he's won something is mad petty, especially coming from people with past history who've also been helped out by the community numerous times without giving any winnings back.

If there was an issue or a wrong that KBR committed, then work it out as adults. You're not obligated to help someone go play a video game. It's a hobby. If you're tight about him not giving you gas money, then why are you driving him around a second time or to EVO?

It's still a wonder how LoL and DOTA2 are bigger than FG's in terms of esports and viewership. Obviously things seem to be changing slightly, but MOBA's seem to be very non-casual viewing friendly whereas FG's are the exact opposite of this and yet a major for LoL will generate as much if not more than EVO peak viewership.

LoL and DOTA2 are ahead because of PC and having millions of active players, but fighting games don't need to be as big as they are or do what they're doing. Just put on a compelling product and the people who are interested will watch it, and grow the player base with these new games. Hopefully SFV brings in another bump of players to the community.

Anything doesnt need to BE anything, but it can.

I like sharing the games I like with people, I hope one day it is dota and lol level. I like to share the things I like.

The "lol Kane doesn't have to think he just has to mash lariat to win matches" argument is as dumb as the "lol he just keeps throwing fireballs and habdoukens and cheesing all the time to get his wins" one tbh

It's definitely not the first time I see someone complaining about that

Petty and not even that great a Alex...

The salt from a none American winning Marvel was always going to be real, its just sad to see it coming from some top players(still not surprising though).

It doesn't feel like some of them are against KBR because of the housing/money issues, a lot of these just read that they are salty cause he won with that team or whatever.

"Nobody uses Erron Black or Kitana because they're super broken."

https://twitter.com/ScrubQuotesX/status/623417677034455040

"None of those players use broken characters out of respect"

Well Kars was right, I can see why Sonic and Yoshi weren't in Top 8 now!

fwiw this isn't a bally's rule. it's evo not allowing you to bring stuff in so you are forced to buy their overpriced crap.

EVO allowed our own food one year and the ballroom looked like a disaster after. Same thing happened this year.

Gamers are fucking terrible with this and are ruining it for people that actually clean up after themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't allow bags in for finals day next year.

Yeah, I have seen a not insignificant number of people call Kane out on this for going on years now. Apparently it's usually a "I'll get you later I promise" then he never does. Main reason I'm not a big fan.

That said even if all of that is true that's a separate issue from people hating on him for winning.

if you don't have digital copies of the good namco games of last gen, SCV, SC2HDO and TT2 are on sale for really cheap on XBL. SCV is $3.74 and SC2HDO and TT2 are $5.

So it turns out that people saying "Please Ray Ray, save marvel" "this game it's dead" etc. was just cuz they have personal issues with money involve.

Please...

I don't even know who it has turn around like that. Discuss was about people being salty with KBR win cuz apparently his team it's chip and ain't hype. Also cuz his not from the US elitism...

As someone said few pages back, everybody respect Champ as a Marvel player while he's a shady dude...

Still a bunch of them to go:

http://capcomprotour.com/schedule/

The Premier events are:

Mad Catz Tokyo Game Show
KO Fighting Game Festival (Kuwait)
Brazil Game Show
Socal Regionals
Milan Games Week
Canada Cup
TBD Japan Premier Event
Dreamhack Winter
Capcom Pro Tour Asia Finals

Well aside from Socal and Canada cup, it's not looking good for US players to rack up points. Not to mention top Asian players will likely be there too. I hope now that Gustavo has a sponsor they'll send him out to some of these events.

What really amazes me is that folks are expecting money from KBR when it's known he doesn't have a steady source of income and hasn't for the entire time he's been traveling. He's been very open about selling stuff he wins and his own personal belongings when necessary. If he promised to pay folks back, he obviously should hash it out but it's bizzare to me to expect something like that from someone that doesn't have the means to.

Thanks dude, good shit to everyone I met, and I hope y'all had a fun time :)

Harumy, Gyro, Lee34 said Thank you very much for having them this weekend. They had s kot of fun.

The top US players should still qualify, it's 32 spots after all.

If it was 16 spots though then US would've been in a lot of trouble... currently there isn't a US player in that list until 12th spot.
