Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

Ultra next year on saturday night i am okay with. Do sf5 friday to top 8, sat ultra all the way through for the night cap, like st used to be at the Pomona evos.

Sf5 and tekken 7 on sunday!

I think USF4 still has plenty of life left in it even after SFV comes out. But it seems like their is this push to not include it next year as a way to force everybody to transition over to SFV. Tons of USF4 haters on GAF and SRK wants this. But it's not just you guys and them, Wizard also hinted at this. Then they wrote a big article about it on SRK

http://shoryuken.com/2015/07/15/evo-2015-could-likely-be-street-fighter-ivs-last-hurrah/

Even if USF4 could easily get 1,000+ players next year maybe it might be kicked out the door regardless to make way for its heir. Capcom could play a hand in this by not even including it in the 2016 CPT and having only SFV. That would give EVO more leverage to do this. Personally I want it for at least one more year. After all the years it has spent as the flagship game of EVO and the FGC, I think it deserves better than that.

It will depend on whether the community accepts SF5, and how stubborn SF4 players are. I could see a Smash Melee/Smash 4 thing develop potentially if SF5 has some questionable decisions in the end. It won't be hard for SF4 folks to keep their game alive- it will be on PS4 and PC.

Even if Evo dumps them, other majors won't.

If EVO doesn't expand to four days, I could see # of games being dropped to 6 or even 5. You can't run through a 4000-man, and 4-5 2000-man brackets easily.

SF5, MKX, Tekken 7 (that will prob only draw 1k) , GG (is major now), Smash 4 (nintendo won't fund Melee?), community choice?

What do you mean

My thing is just play the damn game. You don't realize how much you learn just by playing it. Yea it can be a slow process but at the same time just do the shit. You don't have to sit there and fucking over analyze the shit to enjoy it. You don't need to have an extensive knowledge of the frames or combos to enjoy the game at a damn casual level.

Marvel will continue to be a main game at EVO as long as there are even a couple of hundred people who enter. It won't necessarily be run in the penultimate slot, though.
Marvel needs to be 400 players going forward to be at EVO (assuming they keep the same criteria as this year's). Going by the decay it has been going through, it has 3 more years until we go below that number.

I think what will keep Marvel getting played is more international presence. The international play has been getting more and more prominent every year which may play into it. With KBR winning it might motivate more internationals to attempt representation of their country.

Another factor to consider is that the aren't many new fighting games on the horizon outside of SFV. GGXrd, Smash 4 and MKX were all new games that just came out but next year they will be "old" games like KI. Will they carry the same hype/numbers as they did this year? That remains to be seen of course.

I really wouldn't be surprised if next year's EVO line up is the same as this year's with them switching up Persona with the new BB version + SFV. Maybe one of the Smash gets retired, maybe USF4 gets retired, maybe KI gets retired.

You have to be kidding me if you think T7 is going to be getting 1K entrants next year.

YO HOLD DAT L ONEMIC! 3-2! ELENA CAN EAT SHIT!

Guilty Gear Xrd will likely have Revelator out on consoles by next year.
I don't think it'll draw the same amount of entrants as this year, but it'll probably see less of a drop than other games.

I made a thread:
http://www.capcom-unity.com/street_...treet-fighter-v-needs-a-two-button-dash?sdb=1

I main Firebrand/Dormammu/Shuma-Gorath in Marvel. I have played thousands of matches double tapping in Marvel. I also play Street Fighter and Guilty Gear, and I have grinded the input. It is just hard for my muscles when I am double tapping to the right. The inward muscle motion feels awkward for me. If I am double tapping to the left, it isn't a problem. It's not an issue with muscle memory. I am 30 and have been playing since SFII. It's a physical limitation that I struggle with.

Not a big deal for you, but it is for me and Biz, and Apologyman has trouble with it despite thousands of hours of play with his main Marvel team.

If a Cody player wants to hold a punch button down for a special, that player can still double tap to dash. I agree that 2-button dashes are better and faster than double tapping.

My inputs are fantastic overall. I mained Morrigan for a year of Marvel - I can Soul Fist with the best of them. :-)

You got a source on that? This is news to me.

Apology man straight up said he doesnt practice on one side of the screen. That's his fault.

I just find it really weird to me that people that wavedash complain about double tapping to dash. One is clearly way harder than the other and it's not double tapping.

Also Wizard said it at the last Capcom Pro Talk. It's around the beginning of his interview with Mike Ross.

Do scores count if you just leave randomly whenever you're in the lead

Yes

He always does this even though I beat him overall in our sets by at least double every time. Yams can think he beats me in spirit tho ;p

Whoa there, EVO's player attendance isn't going to just double by next year. I think SFV has a chance of hitting 3k riding off USF4's momentum along with it brand spanking shiny and new. Both's Smash's might hit 2k, if they don't it will probably be close. If USF4 is back, I think it suffers a sharp drop to the 1200-1500 range. Besides that I think every other tournament has less than 1,000. So yeah, I do think GGXrd and MKX fail to reach it next year, but barely. Tekken 7 isn't coming close to 1k, although I think it does do better than this year.

if evo keeps getting bigger, move to a convention hall.

A convention hall can cover
1) more entrants
2) more spectators
3) more booths
4) more stable internet

and still maintain the 3 days so that it doesn't put a big hamper on people's worklife. The only downside to a convention hall is
1) location
2) cost

I know the LACC is hurting for an annual convention. They lost a lot of business to anaheim and san diego

Yeah but the Vegas convention centre is off the strip. It's right next door to last years hotel.

This is such a weird criticism. Some people in a thread about fighting games want to deconstruct gameplay so they can get better, which increases their enjoyment of the game. Go figure.

I felt like that for a while, but when I sat down and learned my characters more I ended up doing better than just flayling around. If you learn certain moves are safe, etc, you change your play style to accommodate that.

I'd be ok with it being in Cali, but I think the numbers would decline a bit. Vegas is a big reason to go to EVO

I honestly wonder, if EVO and fighting game companies step it up and turn it to a fighting game convention, how would it do.

Like Atlus, Aksys, Arcsys, capcom, Namco bandai, Sony, MS, Nintendo etc etc all these booths.

How would it do? I think it could easily pull in a good 15k if done right. Huge side tournaments and BYOC, and all that jazz. Panels and everything.

im afraid to play yams now. But thankfully he ducked the entire time he called me out when I accepted.

I'm your friendly neighborhood rolento player. I mean no harm!

You don't want to play his Rolento. You would just quit SF4 forever.

I see I've scarred you.

das what you think

I got you this weekend.

If I could play you, I would. Ryu is free as fuck to me.

I would body his garbage Zangief all day but Rolento online is simply BS. It's hard enough trying to anti air his pogo stick offline, online it's damn near impossible.

Surprisingly Im the exact opposite

I need to do some long ass sets with you Tik Tok
