Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

GGs man. Intense set, and I appreciate the variety of characters. I wish I could do Ogawa's setups off of a drill, but I only landed the j.K once before you hit Eddie. Probably my best play with him to date, even if it wasn't great. On several occasions I had total control of Zero and Eddie in the neutral, which has never happened before. I also started using Eddie as bait more, which paid off wonderfully when I punished properly.

I don't know how Faust's items work. They all scare me. :(

Looks like KBR is going to be staying in Japan until October probably at forgenjuro's place. lol

I was a bit disappointed with the intros for EVO this year. Especially SF4. There should have been a focus on previous evo history seeing as this is the last year where SF4 is the main game. That adds weight to the top 8 as opposed to just random SF clips.

Something like this with added footage of Xian and Luffy winning would have been dope.

So where is Evo next year? Because it looked so jam packed this year as to be a negative.

tbh between the two halls there was just so much space, but nobody wanted to be in that 2nd hall so they all snuck into the main hall anyways and it got crowded p fast.

Yeah, but that's my point. I wouldn't want to be in the second hall either. Might as well chill in the hotel room watching the stream at that point.
best. intro. ever.
If this really is the last year for Street Fighter 4 it makes me a little sad this wasn't the intro.

Take this with a massive grain of salt at this point, but there have been some rumblings on the Kappa side from a few players that are in the know with Neo's crew. Some stuff is floating around that the person responsible for taking Neo's bag is actually someone in Neo's circle. There are some other low-grade rumors that the amount Neo is asking for actually doesn't match with what was found.

Again, take it with a grain of salt, but the guy who posted it has a credible history and people are suspecting that it may lead to a full on blow up.

All speculation of course, but this wouldn't surprise me. In situations like this, it's pretty common that a friend/co-worker or whatever is involved.

KillerKai on RF said:
After losing to Cross, he was playing ridiculously well and adapting so fast. I don't think he really expected RF to be that dangerous though. RF ran a train on everyone in the money match room and when I walked in and had a shot at him not thinking it'd be much, he beat me 5-0. After the wake up call, I ran it back later and was able to beat him 5-4. But from those games, it was clear that RF had done a lot more training mode with that team than Chris did. I've probably practiced with Chris more than anyone else has in the last couple weeks and I'll say while Chris is probably a better marvel player, RF had a much deeper and more technical understanding of the characters and all his actions have purpose other than "it just feels right at this moment". It feltl like a lot of RF's fireball patterns are predesigned to prevent you from being able to get out while Chris will basically adapt to what you do in the moment and respond accordingly.

stay free america

I saw Nage's Evo impressions posted earlier but I didn't see if Woshige's were posted so here they are if anyone's interested:

http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sn4dso

Again, great read, and again, I love his outlook on the whole thing.

6. From the bottom of my heart I'm really glad I participated in this year's EVO. Not because of results, but because of the experience and communication that can't be relayed by watching videos. It may not be cheap, but if you love fighting game you should definitely go.

8 (he missed 7). Shoutouts to @St1ckBuG for inviting me, and thanks to everyone's support I was able to be part of a fantastic event that brought new view in my life. Again, thank you all for making EVO2015 a great time for me.
Woshige really can't count! >_<

Honestly at a certain point in your life you need to learn not to leave a literal bag of cash alone in a public place. Like how dumb can you be?

This while GoFundMe is ridiculous, Neo is an idiot let him learn from his mistake if it isn't a scheme in the first place.

I'll have to agree with you on this. You're in a ballroom with 2000+ people and you leave your shit alone?! C'mon....

And everyone on twitter screaming at him to go check security cams and stuff and the first thing that comes up? A GoFundMe.

I have a PS4 SF5 beta code if anyone wants it, I pre-ordered but haven't picked up a PS4 yet. I know these codes are easy to get, but tossing it out there anyway.

Did he at least go and check security cams ?

I wouldn't mind, if you still have it !

You dont suck!
Do you still have it ?

That's the difference between Japan and America right there in a nutshell
i feel like a game like marvel lets this difference in styles show up a lot more since the degrees of freedom mean the difference is expressed harder. it's really cool and makes me really hope the international vs. US scene flares up hard as a result of this EVO

Good to see more scietists win at this game more than feeling peope.
I wish I could be a scientsits but I suck ass so I'm assed out. :P

Now that I think about it, wasn't KBR the player who accused most marvel players of just "tossing coins"?

Them turning around to call him random is some irony

I feel this is true about Marvel but I think it also illustrates how Japanese players approach fighting games versus how Americans approach the games. Not that one approach is better than the other necessarily but the divide becomes clearer in games like SF4 where the game is riddled with option selects and shit of that nature that Japanese players will study, invent, and exploit while American top players for the most part thinks the game starts and end with footsies and yomi and are apprehensive towards exploiting the engine due to misguided philosophical reasons. I know I'm making generalizations but it is something I noticed. I remember when Sako came over to compete in America for the first time in SF4 and players on Twitter said something to the effect of "Playing footsies with Sako is like playing footsies with the computer". I think this also highlights a specific mindset.

Why must it be called ceotaku? There are a million other better options.
Because Jabailey wants to keep the CEO branding and couldn't think of another word than Otaku.

He's not wrong about CEO branding, BTW. Its such a strong brand, it'll help draw people into the area.

I am telling you man.

It's cowboys vs scientists.

Spooky is calling out Go1 in a MBAA money match at CEOtaku.
He was doing this as Evo, as well. Says he wasn't feeling well enough to go to the Twitch after-party and then is itching to play GO1 about 5 minutes later. :x

Is go1 still here? I want to mm him

The issue with that is even if he does practice, there are no C-Arcs in America that are anywhere near GO1's level. That and he can play about two-thirds of the cast....

Go1 needs to figure out how to get to Orlando, first. He has no money.
What happened to all of the money that he won from the anime side games... oh, right.

I think he was trying to be sarcastic, since he then hinted that his "life" during that same time was spent masturbating.

It's possible, but I think the kind of people who seriously use that phrase are also the type to think that sitting at home masturbating really is a better use of time than whatever it is your're doing since "nerd" stuff is considered to be at the bottom of the totem pole, in other words ripe for people to prop themselves up by bringing others down regardless of their own position.

I really hated that video :/

Reminds me of that one vid with a guy making fun of the Bionic Arm moment.

Yeah, I can't remember his name at the moment but I recall him calling everyone in the room virgins for being excited about that match's outcome.

I don't know how misguided you have to be to inversely equate being excited about a game to having sex with a woman (I don't mention women having sex here because it's obvious his comment was exclusively aimed at men), let alone the fact that he's using whether a man has had sex a single time as some kind of measure for personal value/worth which is laughable shit to say the least.

Like I said before, these kinds of people seek to address their own insecurities by bringing other people down who have different hobbies and interests than them.

Now that I think about it, wasn't KBR the player who accused most marvel players of just "tossing coins"?

Them turning around to call him random is some irony

ehhh, if dudes are saying that it's probably not that they're saying he's random.
the issue folks have w/ his team if they're actually versed in the game and not a moron isn't really that he's "random" (that's a scrub complaint), it's that his playstyle/team is built around forcing cointoss situations and defeating it requires you to play under the team's flow exclusively rather than going with your own due to how hulk works- you can't attack him safely (and you ALWAYS want to attack safely in marvel for obvious reasons) without forcing your exact ideal safe approach on him while he is waiting to punish you for messing up or continuously forcing you into his offensive game/range

he also does a lot of hail mary stuff w/ the intention that his reads are better than yours when he's got the pressure on in key situations where the other player might escape and actually begin their offensive plan or when he's down b/c his team being put outside of it's naturally advantageous position makes it start to lose really really badly. this is where folks have a lot of issues w/ his win too and where the disgust comes from too i guess b/c forcing scrambles as a central part of a gameplan exposes the game for being pretty dumb as that wouldn't work in literally any other FG

this is what gcyoshi is talking about when he says you have to play perfectly against KBR to beat his team btw, he's not technically wrong bc that's ultimately what it comes down to for most of the cast. that's also where stuff like "i gotta defend REAL marvel" comes from

of course the hilarious truth is that zero and morrigan shit on hulk for life bc they have offensive plans that naturally cover themselves and can win without having to put themselves at risk too- it takes serious as fuck hard reads or massive fuckups for hulk to slap em down which is why it's incredible every time jan or kbr wins vs those chars

i don't really have a problem w/ it because the best chars are still infinitely better in terms of how instead of having to be perfect w/ your gameplay to beat them your it's more likely that your gameplan is invalid or close to it so you have to make hard reads constantly -while- playing perfectly to beat them instead of just the latter.

the big difference between those chars and team big body's is simply a matter of execution- the zero/morrigan stuff is more involved on a technical level than hulk so hulk's threat level is much higher in that sense

there is an actual sense of irony if KBR said that but i don't think he would b/c he's pretty clear about what his team and style are about and he maximizes what he does very well

Sounds about right. Also, the gofundme is getting blown up by comments.

Even if Neo is being legit the company he keeps has pulled too much shady shit so people are calling this gofundme out as a scam.

This sounds ridiculous, like look at Pepedai's interview. He mentions option selects once in a brief sentence. The majority of that interview still about practice, learning the game, learning the ins and outs of your character, the tools available, how and when to use them. OSes are just another mechanic you end up using, not a strictly codified one in the game but its still just another set of button inputs you have to do based on your decision making process.

Although I guess if you refuse to use them, then yeah you might be playing on a different level from someone who does.

The real reason top players get salty at KBR is because when they get beat by him they are made to look like idiots. Nothing exposes you as a player as when you get your Foot Dive armored through and punished or when you get slapped out of the air as a Morrigan/Zero player.

It was awesome seeing how well KBR read them and countered accordingly. My friend who loved playing Hulk got so hype whenever he saw him armor through attacks and punish them.

I agree. I am usually a big fan of the EVO top 8 intros but MKX and Ultra were disappointing this year.

The player clips at the end were awesome again though. I wish everyone actually did something fun like PR Rog. Half the guys just stare at the camera.
