It's business. This is why they do it. You either buy their console in that year, or you wait. What's the disadvantage to MSoft?

Business or not, people can and will be mad. I'm not mad though(any more). I'm glad everything is on the table now so every one can make an informed decision going forward. Now the focus can shift to merits of the actual game.

The thing I do get is you're pretty much trolling ppl who have to wait to play the game. And implying they don't have the right to be upset about a franchise predominantly successful on PS platforms. So yeah, guess I don't get it, but enough to know a troll when I see one.

I agree with you.

The only drama I see is the one from people up in arms about the whole deal. It's a known IP, a strategic deal, it was obvious from the start it wasn't fully exclusive.

It's a shitty deal. The only people that don't think so are XB fans. Yes PC and PS eventually get the game but Microsoft spent money to keep a game off other platforms for 4-12 months. It's bullshit.

no probs, i dont care if i wait 1 year. i love tomb raider. have a capable PC but this belongs to my PS4.

besides, there is uncharted collection and uncharted it'll keep me busy.

Hot damn, it's been a while since I've seen on on Gaf.

I get that it's business - but as a consumer I still have a right to not like the deal. I don't know what Microsoft's projections were regarding the deal, so I can't really comment on the advantages or disadvantages with regards to them.

What I disagree with is your statement that people can't express emotion over a deal because Microsoft paid for it. Of course they can. People express their unhappiness at deals regarding exclusives, timed or not, regularly. Do you expect people to praise a company for stopping them playing a game on their platform of choice? Even though complaining won't change anything - people still can if it makes them feel better. After all, this is a forum for discussion.

It's okay to admit what's happening here, because it's transparent as hell. If Sony had made the same deal, there wouldn't be anywhere near this kind of negativity around the reboot and its sequel. People will tell me I'm wrong, but the rapid shift in tone speaks volumes from back during the definitive edition release on PS4 and Xbox One.
I assume you haven't seen the "Sony is paying for Shenmue 3" posts then.

Nice persecution complex you got there.

I'm not trolling, there are games that are exclusive this gen so far on PS4. Street Fighter to take example. The point is that video games are a business. Microsoft made a business move we knew LAST june. Yet here we are 13 months later talking about how it's unfair. I just think the fact that this thread has gotten so inflated in pages is crazy. PS4/PC knew they would have to wait 13 months ago. It's a business decision. I'm not trolling. Trust me I wish I could play Street Fighter on my One but I can't.

I understand Tomb Raider is seen as a "Sony Platform" game but you aren't being blocked from it completely. You'll get it next year. That's all.

I'm done. G'night.

Y'know all your responses come in gif format to perfectly reasonable questions and statements, with very little to counter it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're coming off an as Xbox fan taking pleasure from PS fans having to wait a year for a title MS moneyhatted, which is completely useless to the customer.

And to your previous question about the downside to MS? Probably the rather displeased shareholders that have been breathing down their necks about the lack of profitability to them for many years, and will continue to do.

All paid for exclusives are a shitty deal. Timed, full, lifetime, help us make a sequel to a popular franchise, help up fund this new IP, console only... Etc. This shit blows. I get it, it's just annoying as hell.

this will probably be the only game MS will get from S-E. A deal is a deal.

A lot of games from S-E already announced for PS4 but not to Xbox One.

I wonder if there were people who honestly believed that it was XBO exclusive.

Also, since I want to play it on my PS4 but have a PC that could run it just fine I'm in the position that it'll be 50-75% price reduced on Steam come Winter Sale-season and $60 on PSN.

I agree we are ALL gamers here. I wish we could play every game on every platform, but that will never be the case. Console wars will always exist. This is a business. People can get upset, but they can either pony up the cash to play it this year, or in early 2016 on their PC or wait till Next Holiday for PS4. But it is a CHOICE at that point.

I still can't believe a Tomb Raider game is getting this heated in discussion. Could you imagine all this even 5 years ago?

Is it really the same though? Or is it proportionate to the gulf in userbase between X1 and PS4? Serious question, seems like MS gets drug through the mud 2:1 which would make sense. Not saying they deserve it, but I understand *Chris Rock*

How does Microsoft benefit when the game is launching in a year packed with games and on the same day as fallout? I can't imagine picking up a franchise that sold better on PlayStation and was extremely hot in Europe was cheap. Pay for it only to have their own games and other marketing agreements for bigger franchises overshadow it. That's not a win.

Because they probably think it will help people on the fence choose Xbox over ps4. We all know that Microsoft goes all in on the holiday season. Casual buyers are going to see it as a game they can only play on Xbox this season. Not saying I agree with ms' way of thinking or the way they focus all their energy on the holiday season, but that's their MO and they seem happy with it.

Just call it a timed exclusive! A next gen console exclusive would be Street Fighter 5, or Titanfall (1). A year is on the more extreme end of timed exclusives, but there's no need to muddy the waters by talking about "almost exclusives" or whatever.

I believe in calling a spade a spade. ROTR is a timed exclusive, I won't argue with that. However, a timed exclusive is the closest we can get to a full exclusive, which was his point. And he is technically correct by saying that. Yes, it's merely a timed exclusive, but I think you're making mountains out of molehills here.

I sometimes feel like there would be less animosity if MS would of allowed for the PC version to release at the same time as the 360/One versions.

There's a lot of arguing over games like SFV, but at the very least it's not delayed on PC.

...yet.

I see where you"re coming from but its still a crappy wait, let ppl express and vent. I don't particularly care, but ya know, posters can express themselves freely.

XB1 owners: "Good. I am only 3 and a half months away from the new TR."
PC owners: "I am probably 6 months away from the new TR unless an Arkham City Port thing happens. Feels ok."
PS4 owners: "I am 15 and a half months away from the new TR. Crap."

Yeah, because apparently a high number of folks have a PS4 and a decent PC but no X1 (myself included actually). The original messaging around the game didn't do it any favors if you didn't own an X1. It was always going to create drama and start discussions which I'm sure MS don't mind as all we are talking about is how the PS4 isn't getting it for a year.

Oh please, the game wouldn't get made without sony most likely. I fucking thank sony.

He means the huge threads of backslash against Sony because of the supposed "shady" deal. Sony is not immune in this forum, contrary to what you suggest. (Although those threads were incredibly stupid..).

Well, technically it can be released on Xbone since PS4 is the first platform to be released on.
Nier announced from the start to be only on PS4, Star Ocean for PS4/PS3

It's possible, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. PC seems probable, Xbox less so since Sony is partially funding it I believe.

That was more about the "supposed" Kickstarter bait-and-switch, no? Hardly the same bickering as Titanfall, Street Fighter V and Tomb Raider. I mean, the stupid fucking fanboyism was probably behind a lot of all of these examples, I just mean the actual expressed "concerns".

Not that I'm particularly invested (was always planning PC for this one), the gif-heavy responses really don't make it seem that way.

Not that I don't somewhat agree with the sudden resurgence of anger/hostility at the year-long wait being odd, but you're not doing yourself a whole lot of favors.

The thing with this deal is that it does not hurt or benefit XBox gamers in any way shape or form. MSFT's reasoning for not having an Uncharted is a bullshit excuse, because without the deal, they still have their "Uncharted".

It only effects PS4 owners (which also happens to be the largest console fan base) in a negative way. Only benefit would be more people who are Tomb Raider fans will be hoping on the Uncharted Collection/4 train now if they didn't previously.

Eh people have a right to be upset having to wait a year.

Exaclty. People need to cur out those fanboy shitposts calling people "salty". It's not salty to see through bullshit being told to us gamers.

Of course. I just want to say more clearly about those games. Some people like statham thought Persona 5 exclusive for PS3/PS4 because Sony "moneyhat" it, not because those games are niche

All this talk about Persona 5 is making wonder when the Hell are we gonna learn anything else about that game? Released that hot trailer months ago then just went silent.

Never thought of it this way, but this could cause boost for Uncharted Collection and Uncharted 4 while they wait for ROTR. You can only play both on PS4.

Niche they may be but they all add up.

In context of the quoted poster those games are niche and probably wouldn't have anywhere near the market potential on X1. But that doesn't mean that TR is the literal only game this gen that S-E would be willing to do a deal for. Big bags of money for a game with western appeal could easily happen again. Fuck me if I know what that game is, I just think PS getting games that will sell well doesn't stop MS from tossing money around on games with broader (or western) appeal.

It benefits Xbox owners in a way as they get to play the game earlier than other platform owners, but that's really all I'm seeing.

Yeah because releasing on the PS4 within the UC4 window would not have doomed this game. Which is about 6 months. Now they skipped the UC4 window and right into the Holiday Window when all the holiday games will be release. This game is gonna bomba hard on the PS4.

I am assuming Square was expecting UC4 this holiday, like 99% of us, and was gonna release the PS4 version in spring. UC4 release window really fucked them and this game on the PS4. Will be funny as hell if UC4 get delay until the Holidays.

Yes it was a different kind of "criticism" but senjutsu likes to point out the Sony bias in this site and pretends that they can get away with anything here. Clearly not the case (the shenmue backslash was not even warranted).
