Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

You being cynical or flirting with tin foil hat shit?

They got an event. they want it to run smoothly and for attendees to be satisfied.
Ran smoothest for the biggest communities

Actually, Smash and SF4 weren't in the same ballroom, which made sense. It's just uh, SF4 took half of the main ballroom and got so crowded it was hard to walk anywhere to find someone in that section.

Was is bad all the time or just on pools day?

Was Tekken, Smash, Xrd and Marvel sharing a room?

Tekken and Smash probably had bigger setups compared to Marvel and Xrd.

Tekken, Smash, Persona, Xrd were all in that room, along with all the exhibitor booths and the MCZ stage. Idk how much of Marvel was in there, I do know top 16 was at one of the sidestream stations in there (I think Mando's?)

What on earth is anime about channeling chi to throw fireballs?
Or lighting your fist on fire as you rise through the sky?
Or kicking 20 times in a blur that takes less than a second?
Or teleport punching?
Or flying through the air while covered by cosmic energy?
Or going super saiyan?

You won't find any of this in anime, my friend.

Every fighter is anime but which one is the least anime?
VF maybe.

Goh is anime.
and really lame

Nothing stops the animeness. It's in everything and everywhere. That intro is hilarious. Reminds me of this.

Never forget.

the worst part of SFV beta being down is that it could have prevented the anime cycle of FGW

YOU HEAR ME ONO

THIS IS ON YOUR HEAD

Look everyone went to play anime games because they were too bored of waiting to get into training mode. None of this would have happened if the was no beta in the first place.

Hope Capcom aren't scared enough to exclude Alex(due to new hogan racist crap) in SFV if they had plans to include him in the first place.

Have we talked about the huge amount of growth Smash had at Evo and how it was a bit crowded this year as a result? IGN did a poorly thought out article about it saying there was an "us vs them" thing against Smash.

I don't blame the Smash guys, but my god they take up a lot of space and I don't think things were organized with that in mind orz.

I was saying that this Evo would be crowded as fuck ever since they announced it'd be at the Bally's and I wasn't exactly wrong

Pretty sure my Smash 4 pool was in the main ballroom

Garbage tier blockstun

It's not even the blockstun, her pressure is really annoying and you'll have to block a decent amount.

But I mean, you can just block. Her ability to actually hit is butt tier, and her neutral is pretty meh on top of it.

But Alex =/= Hogan, even if he drew some inspiration from the wrestling character.

I was mostly referring to Melee since they have separate equipment. Melee was in the second room, as I recall.

Hmm?

j.c, 6b, and 5b are all really good neutral tools

Well in that case yeah. They were sharing ballroom with Xrd, P4, Tekken, Marvel/KI, Skullgirls, Madcatz, the indie games, SFV, Splatoon, Atlus, ArcSys, and all the vendors. If anything it's amazing it wasn't even more crowded.

If we're going to complain about crowdedness I don't think we can complain nearly enough about the Arc booth. Good god THAT is crowded.

The Arc Booth should have been in the corners or edges of the room like mad catz was, I really didn't understand why they underutilized those spaces so badly. Like the far right corner (when entering the first hall) was totally clear aside from people sitting there to rest.

Then there's that little Benq or EG tarp + two setups near the doors to the second area and the tables that had Brolyleg's books. So much underutilized space.

Yeah, their area was essentially a black hole. Nobody was getting out unscathed.

Weren't they running 128 man side tournaments and the 3v3s out of the Aksys booth?

I legit thought I watched shtkn die in his chair after all that was done. What a nightmare.

Because most beta try to slowly ramp up the load and when the game's basic components are more or less complete (ie. netcode, game play, interface) then they induce huge server loads in preparation of a launch.

You don't generally do a massive online beta right out of the gate because of this exact situation.

<sigh>

The reason you no longer do massive online betas at the very end is because, great, ok, you do it, and your servers crash...and it's too close to launch to add any substantial amounts of server capacity and code optimization.

Using Blizzard as your example; Blizzard has had every non Hearthstone launch crash spectacularly online since the introduction of non P2P battle.net (including Diablo 2, WoW, Starcraft, and everything since). Heroes of the Storm basically sort of spent two years adding people slowly, and even then, when they sent the bigger waves out, the servers started losing their minds.

As opposed to doing it many months in advance, where as you can decide to buy lots of more server farms, upgrade them, install them, etc etc, ahead of time. >_<

Also - it is financially dumb to have your servers so high on capacity that they don't go down / freak out during launch. For that week or so you have that extreme server load...and then never again. By building your server architecture to handle launch server loads at all time, you end up with servers that are running at 20% capacity most of their life span.

It's the vs Hugo intro that gets me mostly and the chest slaps. Hogan did use chest slaps right or was it Ric Flair? Been years since i saw him fight.

Without a ridiculous mustache though he's not a ringer for Hogan.

I don't remember Hogan for chest slaps. His schtick (when he was a face) was the shirt rip and then the exaggerated hand rolls to his ear, listening to all those little Hulkamanics out there.

I think Alex is an amalgam of certain wrestlers, while Hugo is clearly just Andre the giant.

Last i saw him he was nWo so my memories of him are fuzzy combined with me never caring about him. I do remember those stuff tho.

Hope capcom doesn't think too much about it and just release him.

Never forget.

I just had to burst laughing when I first saw this scene in the movie. Like Heihachi, dude. what are you doing? You can't eat an ax.

that character is actually pretty dope but Vanessa (vf4) wins my heart

I...I prefer FV5 Vanessa >.>

i did slump into a chair at the end of each 14 hour day. the fact taht we were next to the madcatz booth blasting rockband also did not help matters. good thing we had a white board.

as for numbers pre reg for each game did cap at 128 (we also had a wait list), but due to poor planning on my part, i think less people showed up for the actual tournament. dont' have exact numbers but definitely over 100 each game.
