Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

There's already a SFV Illuminati, and only one GAFer was seemingly invited :(
That's because you're not in the split
and neither am I

I don't even know where to start
Even if everything he says is true, he has beef with LI Joe and Arturo because... LI Joe decided to try to do something to benefit the players at the event over something that would "help" the stream monsters? Oh noes.

The whole thing is ridiculous.

Nash's ex moonsault slash is strange. The way he hovers a bit after the first slash seems like it leaves him open to get hit.

I feel like I've never seen that first hit land even on a training dummy...should probably never do that move. What are his lk and mk crescent kick or whatver it's called (the heavy looks like genocide cutter) useful for?

the new girl streamer. She plays the twins
Oh cool.

I like that Nash only true anti air is an ex move. Even if meter is free in SFV, Nash players still has to mind their meter.

Even if ex genocide cutter has invul it still seems to have too slow startup to be a great aa.

Sf5 footage kinda boring me atm. maybe it's just seeing dudes not know what to do. Was iv boring when it dropped? I wasn't around.

Main fear with 5 is that there won't be as much stuff to figure out.

Not like I've rewatched old vids, but 2008 was pretty hype to me. I remember spending time in the college library watching nico vids all day.
Watching Nemo's Chun beating Daigo was great. lol

I'm pretty sure there will be a lot to figure out, especially when more characters are added.

Why is it that when I land on the other side of someone in GG I can't attack but when they do the same to me my attack doesn't come out if I'm on the ground.

How many frames does turning around take?

Also fighting against Milla is a huge pain in the ass. I'm convinced that there's no point in alternating between high and low. Just hold either and wait till they make the wrong guess because trying to react to that shit is pointless.

If that can be done with Uno, it can be done with anything :P

Haha, that's perfect!

If I had to guess, I'd say they just want the spectacle of "Finals Day" without forcing attendees to book too many nights in Vegas.
I would imagine that it's a lot more stress on anyone involved with the event as well. For staff, volunteers and exhibitors it already is a four day event. Now if you have an event day on Thursday, they would need to be there on Wednesday and that's going to strain schedules even further (as everyone has their own obligations to attend to) and the thought of having to work another 14+-hour day is not pleasant.

I think their more immediate issue is space, which can be solved without driving everyone involved with the event mad. It'll probably hurt player's wallets a bit more -- but that can then be addressed by a little financial planning.

Four days= more need for staff.

There is one other option- narrowing the focus of the event.

At that point, it comes down to what does Wiz want EVO to be? (and also- what does the FGC want EVO to be?)

Smash brings in numbers, but if you look at it from this perspective- it's about more than just bringing in numbers.

Finally saw the Bifuteki thing. Don't see why he is so mad. By his own admission, art did ECT because it made.business sense.

Art got ECT because Sp00ky is busy and he's a proven streamer who streams streams at the highest quality and doesn't have weird colors or contrast problems. Plus its Art. He's like the big goofy brother everybody never had.

But like he said, it wasn't for the stream viewers, it was for the pot bonus that would help attract players and make the stream more attractive which means that-

Yeah I'm not sure what I just listened to. People really need to summarise things to save time.

Got in, played 8 or so matches before disconnecting again.

Love the feel of the game, the lack of SFIV level recovery frames after dashes is a huge upgrade.

Jelly guy rant to stream monsters.

Early SFV impressions from about 5 or so games and chunks of training mode:

IMMEDIATELY so much more fun and satisfying than SFIV. From the movement to cancelling more in combos to the input buffer to how chip works. It's a refreshing but familiar feeling having a lot of those mechanics stripped away and it being a more intimate test of wit. MvC3 felt weird at first jumping into it, SFIV felt weird at first jumping into it, but the way the movement and jumping works just feels at home in SFV.

Still really think the prevalence of special cancellable chains in the place of links is gonna make the biggest difference for new players. Not only that but it makes the action so much more kinetic and fluid, with soft knockdowns being a big part of that. The combat is always moving and shifting, you have less time to think laying down.

Only played Ryu but he felt really good and covers the bases he should, I guess. My only complaint is that his hair looks like it's made of ferro fluid. Couldn't really use his V-Skill because of the lag, but his V-Trigger is lots of fun.

Game looks great in motion because you're paying attention to the action but when you slow things down it definitely still needs some aliasing and some textures replaced, particularly in the Forgotten Waterfall stage. I think it might be too much to expect but if something an be done about clipping belts and stuff that'd be nice.

Most of my matches were with other Canadians but they more often than not laggy. I have never liked the stutter of rollback netcode, but it was a lot more tolerable than the experience I had with Skullgirls' default settings, more like little stutters and freezes. I still felt the better player won but there was one instance where I felt the rollback fucked up my groove and ended in me being cornered because my input didn't appear to get out.

Crush Counters are hard to anticipate, at least right now. I feel like people will catch on to these situations and have the right normals ready to input in sequence but I don't think there's a way for Ryu to do anything right now after Crush Counter? Maybe super?

UI is clean, classy, and most importantly very clear.

Overall, most things conform to what I've observed in videos, but it's great to get my grubby mits on the thing.
