Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

The thread title is about legacy games at Evo. Did you even read my series of posts, or are you just chiming in because the topic got brought up again?

Who knows if Xrd will even be at Evo next year.

I'm chiming in because you seem to use EVO wins as the sole determinant of someone being a "god" of the game. The Marvel gods are gods because they consistently won everything. It's the same thing with GG and Melee competition. Most of it has always happened outside of EVO and continues to happen way outside of EVO, and that is where the top echelon of those games got established and continues to be established. Acting like it doesn't exist because the games don't have EVO history is silly in the extreme.

Some really good stuff. It's really nice to see the top players of GG being able to experience a large Evo now like other players. Also cool to hear them talk about their humble beginnings on working their way up to their current GG status.

It seems that way. When I tested it myself and found out the inputs were still coming out like it does in SF4, I started plinking in all the rest of my matches. Even if it doesn't work, it doesn't hurt anyways. But I did something else that might confirm that it works. I was also testing kara throws with Ryu. And he did have some that gave him just a tiny bit more range. I guess that would confirm that plinking works?

Nuki interview way back talking about Sako being the Fourth Child and such was fun. lol

Also don't you guys forget about the kusoge gods of Japan.

The only thing I am doing is talking about what this thread title means. If you are really upset about it, PM Enzo. I don't care.

I thought the concept of gods came from a 2ch post trolling Sabin that spiraled out of control.

If true, that would make it on par with marvel god talk in FGW.

Never forget the 5 Gods of US Street Fighter

Unfortunately the way the ASC2(whatever it's called) art was done in the old forums didn't come well in the new forum. That's why you see all the question marks and shit.

Rion's is definitely the most interesting. Really cool stuff. It's awesome that they got to go on the overseas trip in a group.

Having kara moves in the game doesn't confirm plinking. The leniency for cancelling into moves are pretty lenient.

yeah, the other dude being able to dash in and throw him in time is bs.

How would you plan to mitigate this? Its a projectile super. One move and he's out. The projectile hits MULTIPLE TIMES meaning the defender has to do multiple parries vs his single action. This isn't the same as making the Daigo Beast is Unleashed moment impossible because Chun's super wasn't a projectile it was a physical combo sequence she would dash up and do. Ryu's Shinko Hadoken is just a fireball with multiple hits he is meant to recover from at a decent rate and follow inside to maximize his threat potential. Regardless of whether that is to ride behind it fishing for AA from jumpers or push in and throw parry/blockers. Thats the gimmick and for a super to only potentially net you a throws worth of damage doesn't mean much. Ryu was trying to style and parry a move that it was not designed to beat. That was a scenario that parry wasn't supposed to beat because Shinko is designed to Get Ryu inside just the way it did.

I think the Parry scenario is perfectly fine and that in no way it should be changed. After all he should recover fast enough from parrying normals and specials to punish those...that Shinko was a different kind of frame situation entirely though and should be viewed as such away from the normal utility of his parry.

I managed to get in. Did a couple minutes of training mode, and got into one online match, went back to training mode, then when it matched me up with another person the game just suddenly exited out to the Home screen.

I guess the servers are down again.

I had to laugh out loud that they fell for the 'sign this, now you own me money because you bought this' scam. Fuck scam artists.

That's pretty lame, apparently the 21007 means server capacity is at its limit. But I managed to get in and would have stayed in if the game didn't suddenly exit itself to Home screen when it connected me to another person.

If they have a server capacity limit limit they should have limited to an invite only system in that case.

I'm pretty sure the connection cap was not part of the original plan. I suspect that there's a networking engineer or two at Capcom/Dimps who is really regretting life right now.

Interesting. IIRC SF4 is 100% 100% 80% right? It's been a while since I've checked so I don't remember lol. It's also interesting how he says that SF4 Ryu does the same or more damage than SF5 Ryu with the same moves.

Same guy tweeted this out

‏@jav1ts
@ultradavid SF5 damage scaling seems to be 1x, .9x, .8x, .7x, etc.

sf4 was 1x, 1x, .8x, .7x

Serious knee jerk reaction to damage in SF5..

I thought that Ryu's damage wasn't that different from SF4 when I first saw SF5 Ryu, but everyone was saying that the damage was higher so I eventually started thinking that the damage was higher too. I'm a victim of herd mentality. :(

What Javitz is saying is true, I confirmed the same thing last night. Stun scaling goes down the same path. From a normal punish or jump in using no meter, SF4 Ryu does do more damage than SFV Ryu. SFV Ryu really shines though in the corner, especially if you have V Trigger on. I was able to do a easy 2 bar combo that did over 450 damage. Bison has a 1 bar 472 damage combo. It can be pretty nuts even without using critical art.

Lol goes back to what you said about the corner in SFV I guess. To be honest the corner jump-in thing looks really silly and I hope it's not like that in the final version.

There is a sign up for a Dong Dong Never Die! Tournament over here at Classic Game Fest in Austin, TX. Haha.

There is an ST tournament but I came too late to sign up. I played some Garou but the p2 side stick is jank. You can push half the arcade shaft into the machine and it gets jammed moving in certain directions.

Met up with Oozu and took pictures, this is when we were approached by 2 mysterious black guys. The "Famous Musicians" that was talked about during EVO. They asked for our signature, and once we did they told us "This is yours, so pay up". Consomme and I were caught, and I ended up paying $1. My other friend was apparently asked for $100. This was very disturbing. That day we encountered them 20 minutes after leaving the hotel, but apparently they were also witnessed inside the hotel a few days later. Probably a heads up is needed for next year.

lmao @ this story sounding like the set-up for 12 Years a Slave

I hope they wore top hats

I do like that V-skills are making characters more unique (as opposed to having a system wide new addition like FA). Then again I bet a returning SF4 rep might have FA as their v-skill..
