Halo MCC Playlist Popularity, Ordered by Population

Halo 4 on the third place? What the hell happened.

Halo 4 went through a number of changes since launch.

Halo 1 is nerfed in the playlists by being 2v2 only, it'd be higher if it was 8 or 10 like the other games playlists.

I assume the people who liked Halo 4 and 343 tolerated the MCC's bugs, while the people who liked the first 3 Halos but didn't like Halo 4 and thus had a bad opinion of 343 already weren't as tolerant of the MCC's bugs and dropped the game earlier.

we have a winner

MCC's iteration of Halo 4 is surprisingly good, so this isn't terribly too shocking in that regard. Most gametypes have no Armor Abilities or Perks, so really you're left with a solid FPS with some poorly designed maps.

Halo 3 being as high up as it is is strange considering it's Halo 2 but bad. Halo 2 being as low as it is is also strange.

Though I myself rarely venture out of Team Slayer, BTB, H2A (for the novelty) and H:CE.

This makes me wonder how much damage they did to the brand. I personally gave up on the franchise after Halo 4. It makes sense that people who liked Halo 4 would be more inclined to stick around and opt to play that list.

Maybe I'm a minority and Halo 4 really is just more liked by the community IDK.

This theory would be a lot stronger if Halo 4's population crash wasn't the previous poster child for 343i killing Halo. So now apparently those guys stick with it through thick and thin, yet none of the supposed Halo diehards will?

Sad Halo CE and 2 aren't higher, people care too much about graphics though. 3 is slow, the BR is terrible and the arena maps are worse than 2, but it's higher. People continually vote for AR/SMG starts though, so this community doesn't know what's good for them.

BTB being at the top seems weird because it takes me far longer to find a match in that playlist than it does in others.

I mean it has to match more players but still way too long, but that's true of every playlist. I hope matchmaking for H5 isn't garbage like it is in MCC, even if DLC won't fragment the community 343's shitty playlist curation and all the different hoppers they have will.

A lot of theory's going on about Halo 4 here, you should really play the version they have in MCC. It plays the best In my opinion and is often picked in the playlists where it's from multiple games.

This list pleases me and salty tears is also quite tasty .

What's the difference with the MCC version ? It seems to me MCC uses the latest version of Halo games. The last version of Halo 4 was when they added Legendary and Team slayer. Which was like 6 + months after it came out.

I'm not sure I understand your argument. I meant that some of the Halo diehards who loved 1-3 but didn't like Halo 4 were deterred from sticking with the MCC because of their experience with Halo 4. Meanwhile, the ones who actually did like Halo 4 and thus didn't hold a negative opinion of 343 were more confident that they would fix the MCC and decided to stick around. I understand that the Halo 4 population crash was a posterchild for 343i killing Halo, but that doesn't really go against this data seeing as this data doesn't tell us how big the MCC population is, just what playlists the population prefers.

Honestly not surprised, Halo 3 and 2 feel weird. Anniversary and Halo 4 feel really good to play though.

Wonder if Anniversary would be more popular if there was more maps to it. Sometimes is boring to play the same few maps over and over.

Halo 4 on the third place? What the hell happened.

People played it next to the other Halo games and realized that Halo 4 is actually really good now.

I'll take Halo 4 over 1 and 3 any day of the week. Halo 2 anniversary and 4 are about the same.

The MCC version of H4 is actually good, so it doesn’t surprise me it’s so high. Yeah, sprint sucks and the AA is garbage, but other than that it’s good. The maps are also somewhat underwhelming, however there are some decent ones like Monolith. On the other hand, people always vote for H3 and I don’t know why. It’s slow, the FOV is terrible, and the BR is trash. Oh yeah can’t wait to play some AR starts on Standoff!

I played lot of halo in the past and i have to agree. Halo 4 and H2A are great on MCC, and after that Halo5 Beta my confidence on 343i went up again.

Also, Swat <3

BTB is unplayable due to Halo 4 being voted so often.

Halo 1 = Halo 1 PC
Halo 2 = Halo 2 Vista
Halo 3 = Unpatched 2007 edition

Literally could not have been any lazier. Of course they would do Halo 4 proper since it's the only one they've made and evidently the only one they give a shit about even though it's not the reason most people cared about this collection in the first place.

I guess I just find the idea of what should supposedly have been far more popular games with larger playerbases would see the sort of drop off that would leave a smaller subset of what was already supposed to be a near non-existent community as the highest population. Especially considering that in something like Halo 2's case, it's literally MCC or nothing.

I think it's far more likely that the playerbases for the older Halo's are simply much smaller than people thought once you subtract the "flavor of the week" players that likely moved from Halo to CoD years ago. Any new players are likely just being added to Halo 4's population due to it being the most recent game in the lineup, and having gameplay systems that their more used to.

I think Halo 4 is simply more relevant in the FPS space today than the previous games are, and the more vocal group that talks about how Halo died with Bungie are actually a very small number, divided into even smaller numbers across the previous games. Basically, they're the new Quake community.

Halo 2 and 3 suck ass. There, I said it. Shit weapons with terrible sound design and poor hit feedback. Molasses slow movement. Halo 4 is in its rightful spot as far as I'm concerned. Its all I play.

Whoa now, H2 is a fantastic game, it also has very fast movement.

H3 sucks though.
