Halo MCC Playlist Popularity, Ordered by Population

I was playing team Doubles a couple nights ago. One match was Halo 2 on Ivory Tower. The power weapons spawned, about every 60 seconds. The enemy team got about 12 kills total with Rockets alone, with the rest being with the Sniper + Sword + Overshields.
Next match was Halo 4. The power weapons only spawned ONCE per match. Meaning the game actually relied on skill of your weapon, rather then just blowing them up with rockets the entire match.

I don't understand why Halo 4 on 360, or Halo 2, or Halo:CE make the power weapons spawn 10 times a match. Any skill is practically thrown at the window. Anyone can get kills with rockets. Having a sniper with 20 bullets in it puts you at an immediate advantage, for basically the entire game. As of right now, Halo 4 in MCC is miles better then Halo 2A/Halo 2 classic.
Arena shooters are about maintaining control of those power weapons and Power-ups. It's what takes the skill, not necessarily shooting a Rocket.

That being said, Halo 2 handled power weapons poorly because new ones won't spawn if you're holding them. Makes it more problematic for Doubles because it's easier to do that compared to 4v4's. This "skill with a nonpower weapon" being more important to focus on isn't really a good argument in Halo considering how important Power-ups and power weapons are to this franchise.

Power-ups and power weapons need to remain as a strong focus for Halo games, not just BRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBR. And by the way, shooting a BR doesn't necessarily take more skill than shooting a Rocket either, with its high aim assist and ability to sweep for headshots ;b

Halo 1 is nerfed in the playlists by being 2v2 only, it'd be higher if it was 8 or 10 like the other games playlists.

Yep definitely. It'd be a lot more popular if they didnt fuck up the playlist. 4v4 or 5v5 would see a sudden jump in population, and a sudden jump in my own happiness.

My main problem with MCC (besides the obvious issues) is that the playlist system is not very good. It would have been cool, if you had a preference tab somewhere, where you could put checkmarks of which game should appear online. Like this:

[x] Halo CE
[ ] Halo 2 Classic
[ ] Halo 2 Anniversary
[x] Halo 3
[ ] Halo 4

Then you would have the standard playlists like...

Team Slayer
Team Objective
Big Team Battle
Team SWAT
Team Snipers
Team Hardcore

...and the rotational/featued playlists on top of that.

You checkmarked Halo CE and Halo 3 in this case so you will find only those games in every playlist available, until you decide to checkmark an other game.

This is actually what I believed they will do when they revealed it. Turns out that it's not this way and now people are forced to play whatever other people want. That includes stuff like: Halo 3 BTB AR starts on Sandtrap, H2C Doubles on Midship with Plasma Rifle starts, H2A Slayer SMG starts on Stonetown/Zanzibar, etc. etc.

Halo devs are repeating the same mistakes for 11 years now, in terms of playlist management.

That would be nice.

Me and my teammate being the first deaths in the H2 match definitely caused them to control the power weapons. Which it should be. But we had no way to comeback, from how fast the weaspons spawned, and how powerful they are. When we were at a long to mid distance, we got sniped. If we got close to them, we got rocketed. Once they used all 4 rockets, they could pick up the next set of rockets, and sniper ammo. The entire match was just that.

In an environment like that, power weapons shouldn't spawn more then twice a match. It is not fun, nor can you really counter much, if the enemy team has half an idea what they are doing. I'll play Halo 4 over Halo 2 in team dubs anyday.

Yeah, it can definitely be annoying. Know what might be cool though? A rotation of power weapons. For example, say Rockets spawn at the start of the match, maybe instead of Rockets spawning again there would be a Railgun that spawns next. Then Rockets again or another weapon, and obviously have it known which weapons spawn next.

Could be interesting.

Halo 3 went up against 3 Call of Duty's (4, WaW, MW2) and a whole bunch of other games, and never dropped from the top 3 most played 360 titles until Halo Reach came out.

Halo Reach fared a bit worse, dropping out of the top 3 after about a year and never came back, but did not drop out of the top 10 until Halo 4 came out.

Halo 4 did so fucking bad that it dropped out of the top 3 after 3 months and the top 10 in under 1 year, and was competing with Black Ops 1, the game that Reach launched next to.

That "different times" excuse is bullshit. Once Halo started leaning more towards CoD, people left to go play what Halo was now trying to ape.

not really it just proves that 343 slaughtered the old school Halo fanbase lol. doesnt mean Halo 4 is good at all.

I can't tell you how many of my friends bought MCC and an X1 just to play Halo 2 and just about every single one of the got fed up and quit altogether after a decades worth of failure and disappointment, this game was the last straw.

I get on 2 nights a week still every week and can tell you H3 and H4 are still as piss poor as they always were. Go into any playlist that votes H2 H3 H4 and H4 will never win a single vote and H2 wins a majority of the time.

If they did a population counter the first month I can guarantee you H1 and H2 would have been top half of the list along with H3 and H4 would be near rock bottom.

Dont let them fool you. Theres a reason theyre just putting out these numbers now haha. its basically a desperate "Hey look at H4, we told you it was good!"

nah try again 343

Bingo

Edit: sorry about the double post

Me and a friend tried giving it another shot this week.

Let me paint a picture: I was incredibly disappointed by Halo 4; but to be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of Reach, either. The franchise has slowly been going in a direction I didn't like for a while - always adding more junk to the mix, more convoluted maps, more weapons, faster, abilities, etc. That's not my speed; but I respect that I'm a single opinion, and I understand things can't stay the same over and over (unless you're COD ;p)

Halo 4 isn't/wasn't a bad game - never thought it was. But it wasn't the "Halo" that I used to enjoy so much. Halo 4 is a game that wouldn't go on my Top 100 of All Time; whereas Halo 2 is in my Top 10.

I have a good feeling I won't enjoy Halo 5 - it's definitely the absolute least hyped I've been for a Halo game in, well, forever. But I'm not a detractor, because you know what, I was gonna have The Master Chief Collection. 343, feel free to do whatever you want with Halo - as I was gonna get Halo 2 and a beautiful 1080p and 60fps with dedicated servers - a dream come true. I could always come back to it. No matter what, I had one of my favorite games of all time ready to go for the next 5+ years. It's the first, and last, AAA console release I bought digitally, because I wanted it to always "be on the ready."

I took launch day off, and in my entire life, I don't think I've been more disappointed by a game.

It fucking sucked. Worse... it was worse than sucking; because it straight up didn't work. The entire day I took off, and my friend was over, and we maybe played 3 or 4 matches. Fuck. But you know what, it happens.

But patch after promise after patch, the game still runs like shit.

And I gave up. But my buddy and I wanted something to play, so we tried it again last night and this morning.

The connections are balls. The playlists are shit. It's STILL booting me back to the menu after games. And the population is garbage. Mix that with other XBL issues that, granted, aren't the fault of 343 - namely the fact nobody ever talks any more, and teamwork in randoms is pretty much nonexistent; and man, what a disappointment.

The biggest software disappointments in gaming for me are:

Advent Rising
Phantasy Star Universe
The Old Republic
... and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

... and you know what, I would probably STILL want to play, and STILL would give it a lot of credit if I could just get an Objective-only Halo 2 BTB playlist. That's all I want. Fucking just rotate me between Assault and CTF on Headlong, Zanzibar, Waterworks, Coagulation, that giant ice map, whatever. I know it's specific, and I know the population isn't great enough to support it; but I swear I feel like I'm taking crazy pills since every.single.time I choose BTB in MCC, everyone votes slayer. I don't want to play slayer.

Please

stop just stop voting for slayer :(

That would've been so awesome. Alas.

Halo 4 SWAT might be the easiest console FPS experience ever. It's very easy to land shots in Halo 4, and SWAT only requires you to land one bullet out of the 3 Burst BR to the head. Mostly bad players love SWAT, because they get shit on in games with BR's and Shields.

Not surprised it's popular, but disappointed nonetheless.

People still play this abomination?

Personally speaking, it's just great to be able to play Halo 1-2 again online, and the game STILL has humongous problems, in a way, I'm still happy to even have this thing exist.

But we still need an Infection playlist. :P

Still waiting for Grifball on MCC :(

This, too. There should just be some crazy customs playlist in addition to Action Sack to fill the void for these fun gametypes across each game.

I mean, they put TROY as a gametype in the Action Sack playlist, so that's pretty awesome.

Tell me about it, it should be called

Halo: are you good with a sniper rifle?

What makes me laugh in here is the mention of casuals just playing, hence the H4 population. Yet, you go in SWAT and if H4 comes up in the choices, 3/4 times it gets voted for.

Since the re-working of 4 in MCC, its the best.

The BR in 3 is truely atrocious, I forgot how bad it was until they added 3 in the SWAT playlist.

This notion of hardcore halo fans not playing mcc or halo 4 is ridiculous. Where are you getting these stats from. You know maybe just maybe it's a good game, maybe some people can think like adults and appreciate a game, all 4 of these games for their differences instead droning on about how bad the 4th game is.

While I don't doubt the validity of the ranks, I question why just 4 days in the middle of July. Why not give daily rankings or have rankings every week with each update? It comes across to me as only showing a slice of data to further an agenda.

Halo 4 3rd? Disgusting.

.

People played it next to the other Halo games and realized that Halo 4 is actually really good now.

I'll take Halo 4 over 1 and 3 any day of the week. Halo 2 anniversary and 4 are about the same.

Halo 2 maps over halo 4 maps?

Come on man, SWAT is hard if your new to halo. If your new, BTB is the place to be.

If your good at SWAT it really shows. You pretty much demolish the whole team all the time.

It's weird seeing Halo CE so low, considering I never have to wait more than 10 seconds for a game. Even when I'm playing in the middle of the night, it's practically instant.

Why can't I find games in BTB then? Or for that matter, pretty much any playlist that isn't Team Slayer?

Hmmm.

Asking here because there is no more Halo OT:

Regarding the preorder bonus stuff for Halo 5, is that going to be exclusive to those that preordered, or is it available to earn through playing? What exactly is the content?

I think it was already said that the pre order bonuses just gives you the items you could earn in the game right away.

They are weapon cosmetics that also alter stats in Warzone.

Thanks! I'll skip the preorder this time then, just in case we have another mess on our hands like MCC.

By the way, why can't I find Halo 5 when searching for it in Amazon? I can search Google for it and find the link, but inside Amazon itself, there is no way to find the game...

Played some BTB last night.

Everyone always picked Halo 4. We had 1 game of halo 3, and god i really dislike that one the more i play it versus 2 and 4.

I don't know. Just tried to and it doesn't appear. It does appear as a recommended title when you check Black Ops 3 though.
