If we got another Fire Emblem character I hope it would take a cue from Robin and not be a heavy sword user with counter.

I hope we get no more counter characters at all. Im in the belief that it should just become a mechanic in the game, too many characters with counter imo.


Like whats up with greninjas counter? Its straight up butt, even when its activated its easy as shit to dodge, shouldve given him a different move imo

The way I looked at it was that we already have Bowser, Ganondorf, and Dedede in Smash (we had Wolf once too) and since Donkey Kong is one of Nintendo's high selling franchises, it makes sense to have the villain from that game be playable. I'm game for whatever DK character they give me though.

After everything that we've been through with speculation for this game people are bringing their "rules" into the discussion again. This could very well be a deliberate move by Sakurai to sway the masses into thinking one way and then ultimately revealing K Rool as a character. So what if only veterans have mii costumes, why does that have to mean anything?

There are a lot of characters that have duel roles:
1 - Dunban final smash and costume.
2 - Riki final smash and assist trophy.
3 - Pac Man Ghosts as attacks, assist trophies and stage hazards.
4 - DK as playable and a hazard.
5 - Duck Hunt as playable and an interactive element in the stage.

I can see why it doesn't look good for K Rool but it isn't some out right confirmation of his playability status.

And for the record I think K Rool is just ok, I've never preached or campaigned for him. I'd rather have Dixie and Ridley over him any day of the week. I don't like his design much beyond the Captain persona because everything else about him just seems so generic. But I'd be happy to have him for his potential move set and it would make a lot of people happy.

In the effort to constantly cycle up the big bads for kirby it seems like the triple D gets usurped to a supporting role now

As far as DKC goes, I don't really feel too strongly about most of the cast. I kinda like Dixie and Tiny but the others are ok. I just remember seeing K Rool back then and feeling incredibly dissapointed that he was the 'big bad'. Kept hoping it was a ruse and there was some kind of 'real' boss behind it all but all I got was to bop K Rool one more time mid-credits :/
My low opinion of K Rool doesn't really relate to the whole villain thing though, it was more a side curiosity

Plus, now Dr. Mario's both a character and a stage! But in all seriousness, although it does feel like K. Rool was added as an attempt to sate fans who wanted K. Rool instead of a tease for what's to come, I can still see them adding him despite the costume. I mean, on top of everything you said, Isabelle's an AT, and K.K. Slider's a background character, but they both have costumes, too. Of course, as a proponent of the "Pyrosphere Ridley is a clone, and therefore Super Metroid-era Ridley has a chance" theory, I might as well be discredited.

- Ambitious but realistic music list
- Multiple images of complex menus

- The background matches the foreground and that's a Sakurai touch

Well since you asked and meant it...

Smash could always use more heavyweight characters in its lineup, it could also use more villains and DK as a franchise is slightly under-represented so K.Rool is nice candidate for covering those bases alone.

When it comes to the moveset ideas and bringing something different to the table then you can pluck from his numerous boss battles to whip up a few differing moveset ideas.
Costume swapping that alters his specials was always a popular one but personally I'd put him in the Kaptain outfit and heavily feature the blunderbuss and its surprisingly diverse selection of projectiles to make K.Rool a heavyweight zoner.

I prefer Dixie as a character but I have to believe that with my leaning towards the heavies in smash I'd enjoy K.Rool a whole lot more to actually play and he has more to work with.

Buuut this is all redundant now seeing that my move plans are reduced to throwing shot put and a goofy headbutt as a hideous mii masquerading as a hideous fat croc, such a missed opportunity in my mind.

Someone on Reddit noticed all of the sprite frames of the viruses in all of the images are exactly the same

However. The Viruses only have 2 frames of animation anyway, and it's a fairly slow animation, so it's not impossible the sprites were captured at the same frame.

It's especially more likely a coincidence because the score changes and forgetting to update the viruses while remembering to change the score doesn't seem right.

Or they found the animation distracting and they don't animate.

Well, I was asking more about the 'need more villians' thing than anything specific about K Rool ^.^;
