Does anyone know why jump lists aren't working for Edge or IE11? I really liked the jump lists for IE in Windows 8, but now if I right click on a Edge window in the taskbar it just gives me the option to unpin it or close the window.

So did mine. I tried forcing the installation, but it's asking me for a registration key and my Windows 8 key won't work.

Windows Update says my copy is reserved but clicking "learn more" doesn't work so I'm pretty sure something's off.
 
Reverted back to 8.1 after a showstopper cropped up today.

First, my user folders have broken permissions, so I'm not really the owner. Fixed that so that I get the elevation prompts to stop.

Then universal apps stop working and even the Start menu and everything that was a fly out cant be invoked.

Guess it's not as ready as I have thought! Maybe I'll check back again in a few months.

Cheers, just checked and it was there on my desktop which has full Pro, but not on the laptop which has N.... Bugger. Might have to wait until I can install a media player.

well, it's a transition to a new business model. I think the times of having to shell out 70+ bucks for a new version of windows are over. No other OS has any kind of upfront costs anymore (Linux doesn't, MacOS doesn't, chromeOS doesn't, Android doesn't, iOS doesn't)

they are collecting LOADS of your data (unless you manually opt out of most of these features, but they're not being super shady about it, but rather upfront.

that being said, it would still creep me out on my personal machine
 
Well my surface Pro 3 never crashed before the Windows 10 upgrade. Now it has.

Seems ok though. I'm sure they'll be rolling out updates.

Your friend is incredibly paranoid if he's the one who created that image. More than half the stuff he's highlighted in red can be turned off. The stuff that can't be turned off seems like run-of-the-mill stuff you have to deal with if you're using electronics in the digital age. If you have a smartphone, same stuff.
 
Sorry if this has already been addressed but is anyone having trouble watching YouTube videos? I can't get them to play in Chrome. They load but the icon just spins forever.

anything that has auto-completion or search suggestions is getting these from the server, pretty much.

btw: yay, my Windows 7 machine found 198(!) required updates after roughly 90 minutes of windows update "searching ... "
 
I still haven't seen the FIRST icon that appears in the tray to reserve my Windows 10 on my Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 running Windows 8.1

How can I do this? Everything's up to date, and I've followed multiple guides online to get it to appear, and nothing is working. :(
 
Upgraded from Windows 7 and now I'm missing the guest account from my log in screen. Tried going to control panel and users but I don't see the option to make it there. Anyone else know where it is or is this a bug?
 
Conexant sound cards are having issues.

Using the generic Microsoft driver (via Have Disk method) will allow sound playback but microphone inputs are broken (e.g. built-in mic).

The automatic detected driver doesn't playback any sound.

I see this was a known issue some builds ago and was under further investigation. Wonder what happened.
 
Hi everyone,

I received the 'Free Upgrade' icon a few months ago and set aside a reservation, but now I'm trying to push through with it and I'm being told that my version of Windows is activated and it won't let me install. The computer was pre-built when I bought it and was from someone on Craigslist. Should I assume that the person I bought it from didn't get a legit copy of Windows and there's nothing I can do? Is there a way I can buy a new activation key? The installer says I can, but it leads me in circles whenever I try and do it. Or is this some other issue?

Just download the ISO from Microsoft that's in the OP of this thread.

Double click it right in windows 8.1 to launch it, and upgrade to Windows 10.
 
So I figured out why my 3 monitor setup doesn't work on Windows 10. I have two nvidia cards. One Kepler card with one monitor and a Fermi card with two. Each one has a different WDDM version in Nvidia's Windows 10 driver, which doesn't play nice with Windows. Hurry up Nvidia and fix this.
 
My laptop is running 10 well, besides the fact the built in speakers aren't working. I'm sure that'll get ironed out soon.

My Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet hasn't received the update notification.

Anyone else on a tablet? Is the 10 experienced improved? Because 8 was very touch oriented.

Same. HP Omen, Only issues ive noticed so far are the microphone not working and I cant customise my keyboard backlight colour anymore.

The touchscreen seems to work pretty similar to 8 to me, although I obviously don't use it that much with this being a laptop. Can snap the same way as in windows 8 and swipe right to switch apps.
 
Does chrome act funny in Windows 10 for anyone else? I just did the upgrade and my typing sometimes takes a second to register or when I go from tab to tab, sometimes the screen takes a minute to update.

I'm going to do a clean install. Hopefully that will fix the issue.

I don't know if it's my mind playing tricks on me or what, but I only have 1 game installed on my Surface Pro 2 and it's Pinball FX2. I just fired it up for the first time and gave it a go and it's running much better. That's in power saver mode as well. I was just playing this on a plane trip and sometimes it can get a bit of stutter, but it's a constant 60fps+ right now.

Ok. Update on the situation.

Apparently the built-in mic does work with the generic Microsoft driver. Setting is tuned very low.

Default Conexant ones don't work at all.
 
The three stages of the Windows 10 upgrade area really badly communicated, in my opinion.

First, you get the initial "install" stage, with a progress meter of 0 to 100.

You'd think that'd be it, but no. You're onto a whole other progress meter. Again, 0 to 100.

Assuming reaching 100 on that would be the end of your misery, you'd be wrong. After you log in, it has to "finish setting stuff up", with no install meter, but a promise of "this may take a while".

They really could have handled this in a much less confusing manner.

Mine is Conexant. I'll give this a try when I get home, as I didn't have sound last night.

Yes maybe, just fixed an issue where the computer wouldn't automatically switch between headphones and speakers on insertion.

Unfortunately it is the automatic driver update causing this in my case, you can try installing the newest driver from your vendor(win 8/8.1/10 version).
But I actually didn't bother with this, i simply opened the device manager >> "sound, video and game controllers" >> select the sound driver >> right click >> properties >> Driver Tab >> Roll Back Driver

This should make windows default to the Microsoft sound driver.
The Provider should change to: Microsoft (was VIA VINYL in my case)

I would guess that the VIA driver is doing weird crap because the control panel for the driver is missing, so you cannot do any settings or detection driven actions.
 
This has probably been covered, but I reserved my upgrade a couple weeks ago but so far nothing. I still have my Windows icon in the tray but all it gives me is the initial spiel without the option to actually reserve or upgrade. Is the roll-out just being sluggish?

What I did was go to device manager, right click the sound device -> Properties -> Driver -> Update Driver -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list -> High Definition Audio Device.

Check your Windows Update (Installed Updates) and see if it has failed a bunch of times. Also check your Windows 10 upgrade on the task bar and see if it is telling you wait for a notification as it is being rolled out in waves.

You may just need to kickstart it by opening a command window and using the wuauclt.exe /updatenow command. I had to use this command and the upgrade went seamless.

There's nothing in my Windows Update history, so I think I'll just try out this command?

I used Command Prompt.
