Zombi - Pure Survival Horror is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC [ZombiU Port]

I still haven't played my Wii U copy... Fun fact: my Wii U is actually a ZombiU Special Edition. The console itself is exactly the same as a regular one, but it came bundled with the game and Pro controller :)

I really enjoyed my time with it on my Wii U. Given a decent price, I'll certainly double-dip.

And anyone saying the Gamepad is essential to the experience; nah--not in the slightest.

Anyone who likes their survival horror, please don't dismiss this game. It has bags of atmosphere.

I am in for a double dip if they found a good way around the gamepad. Glad this game is getting out to more people, even if I personally think it'll tank on any platform.

It's a really good game. I have absolutely no idea why some reviewers panned it.

Some reviewers panned it probably because they were pants at the game and got the hump with dying every 5 minutes. It was the lack of auto-regenerating health that did it I think lol

This game isn't going to be anywhere near as good without the GamePad though. Just using a bog standard controller will result in A LOT less proper stress and anxiety that made the original so damned good.

And the original trailer's God Save The Queen music was much better too imo, although I'm surprised that they didn't using Ring A Ring Of Roses as an alternative if they needed one, much more apt (although the American bastardisation replacing 'Atishoo' with 'Ashes' has always annoyed me!).

I'm still hoping for a sequel though as a launch title for the NX with the GamePad being backwards compatible and usable for it. The GamePad made the original what it was - the most tense, stressful and downright disturbing game I've ever played, and in my 36 years or so of gaming I've played A LOT of survival horror games lol.

Great that more people are going to be able to play it though, just a shame that they won't be able to experience the proper experience that the original has. :o(

I disagree entirely. The gamepad functions were nice but they can be easily replicated by creating an inventory system that doesn't pause the game. I enjoyed this game but the gamepad wasn't a major contributor to that.

ehhh I don't know about that, ill be on PC with this one so the fact that i'll be able to play with a smooth framrate(100+) already makes it a more "proper" experience than the Wii U ever will be. :p

That's not really the same. Having an inventory that doesn't pause in game just is frustrating cause you have no chance of seeing what is happening around you (it's why games pause for inventory). if you have your inventory on a game pad you can at least try to keep a peripheral watch on your tv screen while you check inventory.

(This is why I'm excited for the pip boy app on Fallout, this kind of gameplay cause apparently if you use the app it doesn't pause the game. Where as if you use the pip boy in game it does. Which is the right mechanic there imho).

Also, if Fallout can have a pip boy app that lets you check inventory while the game plays, why can't they ahve that same functionality for Zombi using smartphones for those that want to play the game the way it originally was designed (I'd be interested in it cause it does sound neat to have to keep an eye out while you check inventory).

Will double dip most likely.

Enjoyed the game on Wii U, the MP (Gamepad vs everyone else) was rather good so that will be missed.

Still, a framerate that isn't completely variable makes this more than worth the change to the PC edition personally.

Traded in my WiiU copy yesterday, infact, in anticipation of this.

Good pure survival horror game, but marred by having to use that shitty Gamepad, with it's accompanying forced gimmicks, and lack of any real characters or any depth to its story, so hopefully this port will solve a lot of the gameplay issues at least. A better plot and some proper characters is probably asking a bit much though.

Still, a good game overall, even if it does get a bit overhyped here.

Shitty gamepad? get out of here...

Demon's Souls? Dark Souls? The Last of Us?

It's not frustrating. It just forces you to make sure you're in a safe hidden area or have time before digging into your inventory. Or plan ahead since you can't pause the game and swap weapons or whatnot in the middle of the action

And Dead Space, Resident Evil 5, and Bloodborne.

I'll definitely buy the game if it's priced right, around 30€ like Resident Evil HD.

Watch everyone magically love this game now

I don't remember seeing people downplaying the game because of the platform it was on. Quite the contrary, as I've seen many wanting to play the game. Buying a Nintendo system just isn't the best choice for horror fans, which is also why horror games don't usually sell that well on them.

I loved the atmosphere and the look, and the game was really scary, but I put it down as soon as I died. I like to be scared, but having to fight with the interface was too much - I get the idea behind it, and perhaps it was an interesting design choice (at least it didn't feel that gimmicky) but I didn't find it fun. Dying because you have to manage two screens at once was frustrating.

If the PS4 version streamlines the actions to a button, then I think I would like to give it another try. I loved the idea of zombie infested London with all the familiar places.

Gamecube - Eternal Darkness, ReMake, Re0, Resident Evil 4 as well as (IIRC) Vode Veronica and 2+3
Wii - Re4, Umbrella Chronicles, Project Zero, Silent Hill, House of the Dead games

I don't think Nintendo consoles particularly suffered a shortage of horror games more than any other console?

Shitty gamepad? get out of here...

I generally like the gamepad, but what I played of the demo the game seemed to use the gamepad in really annoying ways. Being forced to move my head up and down from the tv to the screen all the time annoyed me and hurt the experience a lot. It's not like the DS where it's just a shift of the eye. Having to shift your look from the tv to the gamepad all the time is uncomfortable.

I think he was referring to the media and reviewers...

What's up with the last gen textures?

It's a last gen remaster.

Not all remasters redo the texture. A remaster can just be an upgrade to 1080p and 60FPS. And likely is in this case.

Just like bluray remasters often don't change the effects of the movie, just the resolution and general quality of the frames.

Definitely interested as this is one of the few games I'd want to check out if I bought a WiiU... and anything ported to a system I own so I don't have to buy new HW to play it is a win.

I hope enough people buy this to give us a sequel.

Game is a really good experience, feels different to most other games released today (though gamepad usage had something to do with that), but it also had some missed opportunities, some jank, and it was a bit short.

Alright who on GAF gave this critical acclaim? Speak up!
I thought it was a great game, the best survival horror in god knows how long. Loads of jank sure, but a really tense experience. If there are many changes (probably won't be), I'll double dip on PS4.

I know but this looks just the same as when I played it on Wii U. I wouldn't even call it a remaster.

Exactly, also dead space.

I've only played TLOU of all that but from what I remember of TLOU, you still could see what was going on with the UI. It didn't block your whole screen.

I suppose I don't know what the UI of Zombi so maybe that addresses that (like if it is like TLOU where it doesn't block the whole screen). But if it is like a lot of games where it opens up a seperate menu where you can't see what is going on, I would definitely consider that frustrating not to be able to see at all or even try to keep an eye on what was going on. Where as the idea that I could look down at my smartphone to see an inventory list but can try to keep an eye on what's going on by either watching out of the corner of my eye or quickly looking up interests me.
