Ugh. Can't stand that my beard grows well while my moustache doesn't. Here's a recent photo of me after having grown the stache out without trimming for a few months. There's nothing substantial and it's extremely thin. The second photo is after I trimmed it down a bit so it didn't look as raunchy.

Is there any hope for me to be able to get a nice, full stache? I want one that covers the upper lip, in true Nick Offerman fashion.

Also is there anything I can do about the beard hairs? They're very curly and tangly right now, wish they were a bit more straight. Combing them does nothing, as expected.

Also also, is there anything I can do about the large empty spaces under my lips? They look like trash. I'm presuming nothing can be done.
We are beard bros in both stach and below lip empty spaces. I gave up on a cool thock stache and just keep it shortish.

We typically are our own worst beard enemies. Your beard looks great. Let it be what it is and enjoy. You're way way ahead of many others who wish they could have what you enjoy currently. It's a rocking beard.

Ouch. Wish you quick recovery.

Just a question, was clean shaving a necessity for the operation or did you do this on your own?

Sorry for late reply, but yeah
I had to be upside down for surgery, so breathing tube was upside down also
Facial hair and tape don't mix well, needed a clean face for wrap around tube to be inserted and held in place

I have a similar problem in that my hair grows fine on my top lip and neck, but is really patchy on my cheeks. It's never going to happen as I've left it to grow for months and it never 'comes in' or anything like that, so I'm resigned to the fact that it'll never be heavy on my cheeks and I don't like growing it too long as a result. Just trimmed my whole face down to long stubble length and I don't think I'll let it grow too long again. My wife doesn't really like the beard look anyway.

About a month in.

No beard from a month ago for comparison:

Well, you are very welcome. :P

Also remember to take loads of photos if you get it trimmed! ;)

Promised I'd post a new pic once I got it trimmed a bit on the sides, but it turned out the barber trimmed way to much and I had to go hide in a cave for a month or so in shame.

Looks pretty good now though, if I can get it an inch or so longer in the middle I'll be happy.

Trimmed the back of my beard for the first time, after letting the whole thing get way too bushy and long to use a trimmer. Results are surprisingly decent, used basic scissors with the thinking that if I fucked it up, I'd just shave the entire thing off.

Does wax give your beard the same colour it has when wet? Much prefer the colour of mine after showering than when it dries out, and I'm not sure if you can dye a beard :P

Not really, beard wax is for moisturizing, not shaping. Therefore it's eventually absorbed into the beard and it gets the same color as normal, for example I had wax in my beard slightly before I took the picture above, and it's pitch black when wet.

Alright, bump for the hell of it cause I just came from the Ryu beard thread and have gotten mixed opinions so I have some questions.

1. Any way to encourage hair growth around the mustache area? I can grow hair everywhere else but there, it seems. Nothing but small strands and I haven't shaved it in almost a year now.

2. The neck-beard. When is it not one, when is it one? Do I just get rid of everything from the jaw down, or is my current trim length of everything at the level of my adam's apple or below adequate?

Pics, for reference. I usually keep it trimmed, but sometimes I let it grow a bit more.

Its basically abe lincolns beard. I say roll with it and get an abe hat and a bad ass 18th century suit.

Pic is a few weeks old. Never really went much longer because of the crazy stray hairs everywhere. I heard beard oil works for this? Have never looked into it but i think it's time. What exactly does it do feel like? I always figured it made your beard feel greasy or something. Any good affordable brands to try?

Sorry to bump this thread, but I need some advice.

I've got little facial hair, except for my sideburns. Now, I've been growing them out for a couple of years now, and I like 'em. People always compliment me on them, telling me it suits me, etc... There's one thing that keeps bothering me though. My right side is less grown out than the left side. Left is one big, dark stripe down the side of my face. The right one isn't as dark right where the sideburn levels with my ear lobe. It's so much lighter that it makes me insecure. The bottom of that side burn is dark enough. Basically, there's this noticably lighter part in my right sideburn.

Now, I've been going back and forth in my head if I should shorten them, hoping the right one grows out well enough that there is no longer a discernible difference between the two.

What's holding me back is that I will feel even more insecure when I'd shorten them. I'd feel naked.

Any tips, beard GAF? I've heard different things. Many say shaving facial hair to make it come back thicker is a myth, others say it works.

Hey guys! Quoting myself because I've never received an answer and insecurity is popping up again.

Hey man! May I ask, how old are you? For what I've read, the shaving trick is a myth. In my case my beard started to grow when I was around 22, so pretty late. Now I have a respectful beard (29 here). In my opinion, there's nothing you can do to make it grow thicker other than wait if your still young. If you're 26+, I don't think there's anything you can do about it unfortunately.

28 this year...

But why is my one side of my face the way I want it but the other isn't? I've always been a late bloomer.

Don't care about a big bushy beard though.
