It's happening but I just hope they changed the main character's look at the least.

hope Scalebound is open world, haven't seen/played a fantasy game that lets your ride dragons before, would be awesome if dragon has a pokemon like evolution system

Do we know if this cgi trailer is actually representative of the games look, or did ms pull a phantum dust and hire out a studio to create it without the game developers input? Hoping for the latter, it looks silly.

Kamiya was on-stage to announce it, it wasn't a Phantom Dust.

I'm just imagining the fit that Kamiya would throw if MS did this to him...

What's kinda interesting about this year's Gamescom is that I feel like the games that are announced reveals are more interesting than the E3 Microsoft games (However, this is because they are either new IP or reboots -- Halo and Gears are still among my two favorite franchises). Crackdown, Scalebound, and Quantum Break have potential to really impress.

Do we know, by the way, if Microsoft owns the Scalebound franchise or if Platinum owns it, but Microsoft has rights to the first game?

Outside of Sunset Overdrive, Ryse, D4 and Gigantic (latter not fully funded by MS which explains the exception, Ryse signed in 2006~) Microsoft own every other new IP they have published this generation:

Scalebound, QB, ReCore, Sea of Thieves (obv), Powerstar Golf, Crimson Dragon, Ori, Screamride, State of Decay

Phil wants to own everything going forwards, he did say there might be exceptions but MS all in on owning stuff at this point.

That's good because I think Microsoft owning its IPs means that more effort will be put into them as a whole. Scalebound has the potential to be a really unique game within Microsoft's first party -- I would LOVE to see a massive franchise spawned from it (especially a Platinum game), but it's too early for that discussion.

I just knew that initially Microsoft was allowing developers to own their franchises like Insomniac with Sunset Overdrive -- and for all I know, they still may allow for that if it comes to it -- but Microsoft does need to expand the number of unique IPs that they actually do own.

I also never thought about it, but I guess Alan Wake is owned by Microsoft? I take it that Quantum Break is, but I never thought about Alan Wake.

Alan Wake is owned by Remedy, MS just had the publishing rights to the first game. Remedy had to get MS's permission to get it published on PC.

I know Phil is a fan of Alan Wake, so I can't help but wonder what happens with that IP next.

wait what

I had no idea Kamiya was involved. I clearly haven't been paying attention to Scalebound, lol. That kinda kills my hype, honestly. I'm not a huge fan of his games.

It would be funny if Alan Wake 2 was a new announcement at Gamescom during Microsoft's conference (despite how unlikely this is).

As Paco said, Remedy own Alan Wake. Their biggest deals signed around that time like Mass Effect, Gears of War were owned by the developer, although they did get Crackdown ownership.

Remedy said before they see Microsoft as their partner on Alan Wake and Phil loves him some Remedy so... I hope we can see some sort of deal made here.

I'm kinda surprised Microsoft hasn't already purchased Remedy given their relationship. Of course, Remedy might like its freedom apart from any first party, even if they typically just develop for one platform holder's system.

Regardless, what I really hope to see from Quantum Break is Remedy teaming up with Poets of the Fall again for more music. I loved their music in Alan Wake. If PotF has music within QB, I doubt I'll see any official announcements about it at Gamescom, but I can hope.

I totally agree!! Love the legacy they have with the band there, and War in Allen wake was perfect!

I suspect they want their freedom but also unfortunately I don't think Remedy really constitute a good buy right now as much as I would like it to happen or I don't think MS would see them as a good buy right now anyway. I love the studio and their games but they take too long as it stands to get stuff out, if they can prove themselves with QB being great and selling well, making a sequel on say a 3 year dev cycle or something they might do it (and to own Alan Wake IP as well) but right now, I just can't see it.

Any word on what's going to be shown from Halo 5? (Campaign, Multiplayer, new modes?)
E-Sport guys are hyping the Halo stuff. It will have present there. Warzone will be playable on the show floor, but it isn't said if on a new map or the e3 one. Halo 5 tournament on Friday but no new maps will be played. Only Empire and Fathom.

I am assuming they will do a full reveal for the Raid on Apex 7 map since they already teased it with Megablocks and posted about the Behind The Scenes on the development of it
run on sentence :)

Looking forward to seeing Crackdown in action, hopefully the level of destructability from the CG trailer transitions into the actual gameplay.

Would be nice to get a firm date for Quantum Break as well.

I'm of a different mind: I wonder if the destructibility won't end up making the exploration bits, the best part of Crackdown, more generic than it should be.

I'm probably the only person that would be happy if the plan for Crackdown 3 was parred down from the cloud-based mega-destruction into something more akin to a well-designed, fun to explore city with fun collectibles to get.

I still don't see how they can make both work at the same time.

I hope Scalebound will have Character Creation. There were a lot of rumors about multiplayer stuff for Scalebound, so it would make sense. And i really don't want that guy to be the main character.

Come on Microsoft, give me finally something to pull the trigger and buy a xbone! (Lost Odyssee 2 would also help with that.......)
