Dark Souls 3 Trailer (Gamescom 2015)

I don't know, words are hard, I'm at work, finally got off a call so I could watch it in full

From must be loving the position they're in with the Souls/Blood series, I mean there is nothing like it, they literally have it to themselves!

I must have dark fantasy fatigue or something. That looked pretty boring and samey. That armored boss on all fours kinda reminded me of the Blood-starved Beast, and I was consistently getting Bloodborne vibes elsewhere in the trailer.

That was my impression as well. I didn't think I'd see the day where a Dark Souls trailer would leave me just going "Yep, it's Dark Souls" and not much else.

Wasn't Bloodborne and this game made around the same time? that explains why the visuals in certain parts of the trailer gives off that vibe.

I feel if BB was never made DS3 would look even more like Bloodborne it's obvious he had a certain design set in mind. Here for this as it will be my first Souls game I own, BB was to get my feet wet now i'm in for the main course.

I just want to harp again on the blood. That's really the big improvement to me. Previous Dark Souls games I get zero satisfaction from hitting somebody. They don't get hitstun, their animations don't change, I don't get any kind of red/blue/green blood or anything from them. I don't feel like I'm doing damage, it sucks.

The blood adds soooo much to that moment-to-moment enjoyment of its combat loop of strafe/strike/block/block/strike/roll-roll-block-roll/backstab. Combine that with the speed, the depth/art of the Souls games, the powered-up engine at 1440p/60fps on PC...shit could be GOTY, b.

In a year that already got Uncharted 4: sorry for UC3 edition, Mass Effect: Dragon Age edition, Zelda NX(and also Wii U I guess), Mirror's Edge: fancy word for reboot, Dishonored 2, Deus Ex 4, Street Fighter V, Gears 4, Cuphead, dat new Ratchet & Clank, Horizon, Shadow Warrior 2: More Wang-4-All, Yooka-Layee, Abzu, The Last GuaHAHAHAHA sorry about that last one

I think there are actually only 2 bosses in the trailer.
I don't think that the floating skull and the huge giant are bosses.

There's the mace-knight-dog and the one who grabs the player who I'm pretty sure is The Dancer of the Frigid Valley.

I like how they're keeping the black bars on the intro cinematics for some bosses.

That was one of my favorite things in DS2.

The "Project Beast" unreleased trailer even has the player character stabbing a sword into a gravestone. Gravestones are confirmed as being a new DS3 feature similar to Bloodborne notes, and the kneeling-and-stabbing-something ritual is a big part of DS3. The E3/ComicCon display for DS3 features this ritual.

I knew they would take some notes from bloodborne, but I didnt expect the gameplay to get so much different from the previous Dark Souls. The game seems MUCH faster paced now.

I hope the bosses dont have rediculous health pools. Thats one thing that really agrevated me. DS 1 was perfect. Vicar amilia on ng+ had an absolutely huge health bar.

Bloodborne son.

Bloodborne son.

That's what I'm saying, that Bloodborne influence.

Ya know the biggest improvement from BB?

BLOOD

In previous Souls games, striking somebody was like swinging at curtains. There was no hitstun, no blood, no feedback at all. Having that kind of visceral feedback for hitting an enemy added so much to BB's combat rhythm, and the increased speed/blood is gonna do wonders for Dark Souls, too.

Shit is gonna be straight piffery

Anyone else absolutely love that theyve brought back the intro voice actor from Ds1? That monologue at the beginning of Ds1 was amazingly well done and gave the game an eerie feeling right off the bat. Hopefully we get another.

Absolutely. In fact, it might've been the highlight of the trailer for me, along with the superb music. Exactly the sort of stuff I wanted to hear in a reveal trailer, not rock shit or whatnot.

Game looks to be shaping up well. Also, katanas confirmed to return. ^_^

Just think of what they didn't show us.

Thought the same actually. Watched the Bloodborne GC 2014 trailer and they really didn't show us anything in that one. Heck, they did a really awesome job hiding most of the crazy stuff. Hoping the same is true for DS3.

Please fix the Frame Pacing/Rate issues FROM. And please patch Bloodborne with it too.

Bloodborne's publicity was terrific in that none of it revealed the
Lovecraftian
half of the game.

I have no doubts there's way more to DS3 than what we've seen so far.

anyone know what the voiceover at the :30-35 second mark is saying?...after 'fire fades', I can't make out the rest....

also why is the enemy at the :47 second mark carrying a giant plunger for?...did one of the bathrooms in the castle get clogged??

Remember that pic with the leaking black sun? Shit's going to fuck your mind so hard.

on mobile rn but let me put something that will reflect my general reaction to this statement.

Like, what in the world? The Souls game didn't have fountains of blood coming out of the enemies but the combat always felt like you are doing them damage and every hit is always incredible satisfying.

I do agree that the blood effect looks nice with the new aesthetic tho.

Combat may be a bit too fast for my liking. I enjoyed Bloodborne but much prefer the Dark Souls combat speed. May just be the really short clips making it appear worse than it actually is to me though so maybe future, longer footage will change my mind.

Absolutely love the art direction and enemy design though.

The full speech is as follows, as far as I can make out: "Yes, indeed. As they say on pilgrimage ... the fire fades, and the lords have no thrones."

also why is the enemy at the :47 second mark carrying a giant plunger for?...did one of the bathrooms in the castle get clogged??

It looks like some sort of branding iron.

Just a note, it's not a floating skull -- it has a whole body. You can see its forearm and hand on the left. It's just leaning forward.

Bloodborne definitely cranked up the gore feedback and sound effects when hitting enemies.

I'm interested to read your thoughts on Bloodborne if it makes your GotY post. Haven't really seen you talk about it.

I don't mind it playing a little faster, or having things like a bow quick fire, if the other Souls fundamentals remain. It was entirely possible to play Demon's/Dark as a fast character if you picked your build right. And unless they've gutted weight and magic, Dark Souls 3 should still have the broad range of character builds and play styles. Keep in mind the emphasis on mobility in Bloodborne was balanced with the shift away from shields and really effective range. I think they'd struggle to have this play just as fast as Bloodborne and keep shields/magic balanced with the play style.

I just hope we see a return of some of the more oddball boss encounters found in Demon's and Dark, the ones in weird, unorthodox environments and level layouts, often requiring thinking outside the box, especially if you were a melee player. Dark Souls 2 had very few of these, as did Bloodborne. The latter didn't really need them due to the focus on close quarters combat, but they were dearly missed in the former.

Def BB speed. Anyone telling themselves it isn't is a liar. It's a good thing because we can easily pinpoint the people who disliked how BB looked while waiting for the "slowers" DaS3 lmao. Also glad to see the old backstab back.

I wonder if they'll let spells be cast while moving. Could keep that playstyle viable while maintaining a faster pace.

Give examples. I thought Bloodbrone had a bunch.
