Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Fucking
wormholes
now.. I liked the analogue feeling of MGS3, I thought this would be more of the same thing. So that's kinda disappointing to see (also why the heck are all weapons fictionalized?). Looks like a huge amount of content and I'll buy it day one but still. MGS have always been crazy kind of tech wise but if you go too far it becomes implausible, if a game takes place in the future sure, but not the 80s...

I personally like it because I love how MGS deals with real themes but it doesn't shy away from the fact that it is a video game and some of the mechanics don't really need to make sense lol

So what are the chance that there is a place in the game called Hills are Silent or something like that??

Also invading other players mother base seems so fun.

Just watch the whole 30mins..I'm drooling. Holy shit, there is so much to do in this game I cant even imagine. Anyone knows if we can import our own musics into the iDroid?

Is that possible, to target specific players/bases to attack & if you are a member of a crew/GAF clan, they could retaliate on your behalf?
not sure if there are clans in this, probably only in MGO. still, if the guy is on your friend list you can retaliate on his behalf, yes.

It's a little menu-heavy (can you manage everything iDroid related from the companion app?) but loads to dig into, I'm just going to take everything as it comes, trust the game to explain.

I wouldn't be surprised. The idroid app for GZ let you do pretty much everything you could in game. Like, listen to tapes, call in choppers and use the map.

The MGS universe has giant mechs, cyborg ninjas, ghosts and supernatural soldiers, a
weather machine
, and highly advanced technology like nanomachines and a
teleporting CQC glove

Why is a
wormhole
incongruous?
I've played every single main Metal Gear game (even the MXS ones) so of course I'm not oblivious to this fact, but in previous games the technology was outrageous for their times sure but I always felt they were at least plausible, and well in a sense realistic (Supernatural elements excluded, but those aren't my problem) - some of these things I just feel is too much, I wanted to be immersed in the cold war again, a world that in MGS3 was very well represented despite having some quirky out of place technology and the already mentioned supernatural elements.

Well, like I stated above, when it comes to the supernatural parts of the MGS series sure, but the technology always felt at least kind of plausible. Excluding humanoid bosses, what was the most outrageous piece of technology in MGS3? A tank with screws... And that simply felt like a 1960s Metal Gear, many of the things in MGS5 just feels out of place for a game taking place in the 80s. I don't know, It's weird for me.

To develop further, for me these things just feel like they were put in for convenience - Kojima just wanted them - with out regard for world building or fitting a narrative. This game has tech that would feel out of place in any Metal Gear. MGS5s 1980s look more advanced than any of the other MGSs, Why? It feels like a case of "Wouldn't this be cool" so Kojima just put it in.

Can't wait for the GAF MGS Task Force to form in regards to FOBs. I will retaliate on your behalf against anyone who attacks you, fellow Gaffers.

Well im prepared, i just hope we are not forced to do stuff that kills the pace of the game. All that building..seesh and no lego in sight!

They said in the video you can let Ocelot assign the soldiers you Fulton in automatically, so it looks like the process can be somewhat automated as long as you keep sending troops back to mother base and drop in on occasion to keep morale high.

I'm glad the game uses fictionalized weapons as otherwise they would have had to pay arms manufacturers money for licenses, and fuck that.

Yo so how spoilery is this?

There's no story in this.

You can't locally store any media on the PS4 apart from the stuff you capture using the Share button. I don't have an XO, but I think it's the same situation.

wow. I didn't even know this.

Absolutely amazing. I think the FOB is enough to make this a great game, even if Kojima doesn't knock the story out of the park.

I'm not so sure the wait times you see in the trailer are set ups for microtransactions as much as they are there to keep things from being too easy. It looks like if the time limits weren't there you could breeze through everything.

That's my thinking as well.

Even that was based on a real thing

I completely agree that the MGS series used to take its tech at least somewhat seriously, and it's a bit disappointing to see that absolutely thrown out the window (although Peace Walker definitely started it).

If it's anything like PW, stuff like the Jehuty arm, and the space-time wormhole fulton will be super late end-game unlockables. I sincerely doubt you'll get that kind of stuff through the course of the story.

I'd rather have them spend money on that than inflating the budget with Kiefer Sutherland, at least that helps creating a believable world. Maybe it's not the same for you but I've done military service and for me it's a needle in the eye.

It doesn't really matter honestly, why risk the integrity of a world you've built for decades?

Well there you go..

Konami shouldn't even try after this game releases. There's no way they're going to top Phantom Pain without Kojima.

Interesting, not sure if this was known but apparently the review event is only 4 days long (something like Watch Dogs had 8 days for comparison). Reviewers can't keep their saves, seems a feeling of not being able to see most of what the game has to offer is concerning, at least from someone I talk to. Using the 2-day May preview event as a frame of reference, some journos didn't get past 10% completion lol.

Review event is from the 18th to 21st.

Yikes. Reviews are going to be so interesting for a game like this. You can see in this very thread how much personal preference influences what people want from the game. I feel there will be lots of reviews focusing on what they didn't want included as opposed to reviewing what is in the game. It will be interesting either way.

Holy shit this is fucking amazing.

BRUHHHH THEY GOT FUCKING JOY DIVISION IN THE GAME...WHAAAAT

Kojima is a huge fan of Joy Division. If you follow his twitter, I think it was a while ago but he posted about getting one of their albums and had positive words for it.

God this game is so damn...I want it right now. 26 days >_< The wait is too much. I want to make my base and chill out with my bros at MB and invade other bases. This game is going to be comfy as fuck.

I think most reviewers will feel the obligation to finish the story completely so they'll focus on the main missions and only do Mother Base management if it's necessary to develop an item needed to complete a main story mission. I have the feeling a lot of these initial reviews will lament the fact that they could not dive deeply into the whole Mother Base aspect due to time, and they'll review that part of the game more completely when they get their own copies.

You know what? When I was watching the video and they showed off the Wormhole stuff (There seemed to even be a marker on the FOB map that said "Wormhole", suggesting that invaders access your FOB through trans-dimentional travel) I thought it was hilarious and so MGS. But at the same time I knew that if I came on here I'd see people complaining about it. Didn't disappoint.

Have we been playing the same series?
