Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

I have the game preordered for D1, but i must say i'm much less hyped than what i thought.

First because i'm not sold on the open-world design, i admit i would have greatly preffered a tighter, more linear game like past MGSs.

And second, i think this game has like way too much systems: companions, weapon and equip customization, Mother Base etc.

I know i'm the kind of player that don't like those aspects, i hope i'll be able to ignore them without hindering the whole experience too much.

I shall see, but at least Metal Gear is back babe.

Finally got around to watching this and my god its better than i ever expected.

My only worry at this point is for the story to suffer since i enjoy that in MGS games, also would be nice to have some unique environments. Everything seems like its segmented into Base, Jungle or Desert.

Question:
Also, am i correct in thinking that Mother Base isnt subjected to invaders and only the FOBs you build are? I could have sworn they said mother base would come under attack by AI at one point and be part of the game which is why you still have to build security for it.

The more I see of this game the more I'm not sure I want to buy it it's just seems soo big with a lot of pointless stuff.

But I need to know what happens in the story and i don't want to find out with a lets play.

Wait, you found this whole demo "pointless"? Have you played a MGS before? Like really really play?

I'm in the same boat. Don't get me wrong the game looks fantastic but I prefer linear games too. All the videos that explains the mechanics are scary to me, this is too big. Too many things to take care of. I just want to grab the controller, have fun and be entertained by the usually convoluted Kojima's story.

Completed them all but the psp one and MGS3.

I didn't find the demo pointless the game just seems way to big, I can see why because is possibly the last real MGS. I loveed the linear MGS games

Edit at least I'm not in the same boat ^^

Yeah I kind of feel the same way. My only hope is that like Peace Walker, the systems are introduced slowly enough that it never feels overwhelming and it becomes easy to manage quickly.

Because hanging off the side of D Walker isn't stealth. They still see a giant fucking robot skating across the desert!

It looked and sounded like it could in that demo. Big Boss drove right up behind that soldier and he didn't even notice it. The narrator also said it's a great way of moving fast, but silently.

Yeah they were conveniently looking the other way though. And I think the latest trailer showed a sneaking suit for D-Horse :3

yes, and also yes

decisions on more minimalist story telling and a quieter protagonist were probably in place long before kiefer was ever signed to the project. kojima citing the road warrior as an inspiration for the game makes this very clear.

Yeah, Kojima has a huge love for Mad Max. He saw Fury Road over 5 times if his twitter is any indication.

Honestly, I loved the story and codecs in previous MGS but I wouldnt mind a more muted system of cassette tapes.

It seems possible, maybe even likely, that Mother Base will come under attack at some point in the story. But yeah, that would only seem be by AI. A player can't ever go onto your main deck and take DD, for instance, it seems.

Kojima did talk about having visitors on your Mother Base a while back, so there might be the possibility of friendly players being able to visit your main Mother Base.

I think that was way back before they were talking about the FOB system... even last E3 it wasn't disclosed that there would be separate bases for online, just some speculation.

I know. That was super cringe worthy. Think it makes a shit ton of noise, that electric motor is not quiet. It's like hearing a geezer in a powerchair rolling up behind you.

Yo, I didn't know this game had a demo at E3. What's the point of having a horse when you can have the D-Walker?

Also D-Horse is the starting buddy and I would bet you have to sink a bunch of time and R&D budget into building D-Walker. Any one else notice D-Walker has the same "head" as the MK. II? Like father like son I guess.

Probably the well-known fact that Kiefer was too expensive and so the whole game was designed around him not saying much.

http://youtu.be/sj_UBSeduHQ

In this kojima said he wanted snake to speak less it has nothing to do with this myth of keifer being expensive.

Here's another video of Troy talking about the hardwork they had to do for MGSV and gives props to keifer

http://youtu.be/gO5weGHP0uc

I love hayter like everyone else but let's give this man a chance, the whole snake is a mute because of him is nonsense blame kojima for that. I'm not attacking you btw my Gaf brother.

I might not use D-walker at all, just don't find it appealing and especially not that stealthy

I'm sure D-Walker will have to be built, and even then I imagine its various capabilities will be modularized (so something like being able to drive silently might be a module).

So it might be possible for you to never invest in its development if you don't want one, and spend your GMP elsewhere.

D.Horse's on-command shitting has the benefit of letting you Fulton a Jeep and all its dizzied occupants with one balloon, so there's that.

D.Walker definitely seems like the most combat-focused Buddy. I can't see myself spending much time with it, though for just getting around the environment and tagging enemies for you it seems pretty useful. D.Horse has to be spurred every three or four seconds to keep him moving at top speed (and all those "Hyah!"s are going to get really grating after a while), whereas it seems like the robot will just zoom around all day.

Of course, the one true Buddy is DD. How do you pass up an adorable wolf in a sneaking suit and an eyepatch who can take out soldiers for you with the sick stun knife he holds in his mouth?

In other news, I just spent like three hours today extracting every last living soul from Camp Omega in the Ground Zeroes mission on Hard to try and take care of my MGSV craving. I have no idea if all those soldiers I lugged around are going to be carried over to MGSV, but it couldn't hurt :P

Can you listen to them Bioshock style? In game, or does it restrict you to menus while they play out?

You can listen to them during gameplay, MB, main menu or whenever you like. They're basically codecs the only difference is that gameplay doesn't stop like in previous MGS games.

You can listen to them at any time, it's a really cool way to take in the story while playing. I suspect it will work even better in TPP than it did in GZ, where you could listen but weren't given much room to work with in terms of ground to cover. I imagine riding horseback and listening to Ocelot describe his passion for Spaghetti Westerns or finding a hideout to chill at while I listen to Kaz talk about being played as if he were a piano or fiddle. Will be super sweet.

I did that the other day. I don't think it counts since you get no points and it doesn't affect the scoreboard at the end. There's nothing telling you that you did it at all.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. I imagine only the POWs you rescue might make it through to MGSV, since they're the only ones the after-mission stats screen acknowledges, but I suppose we won't find out until MGSV releases.

This is probably for the best. If someone stole my dog I'd track them down in real life Jay and Silent Bob style.

yeah I'm looking forward to listening to tapes when I visit mother base or during free roam.
