Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Holy shit, this stick feels really good. It's so much smoother than my HORI stick, which now seems loud and clunky by comparison.

The Hori sticks have always been very hollow. The atrox and te2 are nice and solid.

Glad you like it. It ended up being my favorite!

I have the newer rev of the 360 version. I like the wire connector on it more than the XB1 version, but I like the braided cable and lack of turbo on the XB1 version.

I hope they don't wait until March to put out drivers for Xbone sticks, because I really want to use this with more than just KI.

Bumping my question to make sure it isn't missed in the last page.

Anyone have any good template/examples for panel art with multiple panels? I was hoping do use Captain Blue for my new stick but it's impossible to find high-res Viewtiful Joe art so I'm instead going to stick multiple character art on it.

Gremlin Solutions (their old name) listed (eBay) 5 Q4RAF earlier for £100 each posted, brand new but slightly damaged boxes. Good saving of £28 or so when you factor in the cost of postage on their site.

Just wanted to share as I was looking for a nice stick for around £100 and there's not as many available as there used to be. Mine arrives tomorrow so I'll post a few impressions in here. Has a lot to live up to compared to my old stick, the VSHG.

Nice to see you went with the atrox. What made u choose it over the te2?

Whoa, they revised the 360 version? Can u post a pic of the new connector?

"Multiple" panels? Are you just referring to Arcade stick templates for artwork?

Yeah. Sometime I see people who's art shows multiple characters in panels like this one, but with smaller frames and more stylized. I tried doing it myself but I have no sense of design and felt they came off looking wrong. Finding a template or something more solid to work with would help me save a lot of time.

They didn't revise the connector on the 360, but they did revise the finish of the case and possibly the wall thicknesses. It started off with an all gloss finish, but is now matte which looks and feels A lot nicer. It also shows wear/prints much less than the old glossy version.

The new connector was added to the XB1 version which matches the TE2. I prefer the older connector as on the 360 Atrox, which is much easier to connect and disconnect.

I'm not sure what else may have changed.

I don't know of any templates, bit I'm sure making that wouldn't be too difficult. The better question is are you only doing this bc you can't find larger/better artwork to use?

The "best" option, meaning the least troublesome, would be to hack an MKX pad for PS4 and Xbone (since they also switch to their previous gen cohorts) using an IMP for autodetection. You could then wire a DPDT switch or something similar to the case and wire both of the respective system selection switches to it and just label them like "old gen, new gen" or something, since it would be functioning the same way for each system.

I could diagram it out if I have some time aft work during lunch or something.

You'll have a solder in some diodes onto the PS3/4 MKX pad for dual modding but that isn't too hard. There's a pinout and example on SRK

Thanks for the help guys, what's better tho.

Starting from scratch or buying a cheap ps3 stick and building from there?

It influenced my decision a lot. I considered doing this with my PS3 stick but felt that without a unified style it wouldn't work as good. I've been on a VJj kick lately so that's where the idea came back to me.

So is there a good chance that xb1 sticks will be natively compatible with PC? Not just the Hori stick coming out soon, but sticks that are already out? I would look into getting a higher quality stick like the Razer one or something.

Isn't the only issue that the triggers don't work? For me it wasn't an issue as a 6-button player, but if course I could see that being hugely problematic for those who use 8 buttons.

Ah ok, I don't know too much about the situation. Seems like a decent compromise for a better stick. Either way, drivers would be dope.

Heh, finally got a Sanwa modded Venom stick for PS4/PS3. What I can say is the following:

I have owned the TE1, TE1 Round 2s, Sanwa/Seimitsu modded MCZ Fightsticks, Tournament Edition Fightstick PROs, HRAPS, RAP EX, Hori Real Arcade Pro VX and probably a ton more I forgot mentioning.

The Venom stick, despite its price, feels just as good as any of those. In addition to that it has the best form factor of a stick I have played with. Size is somewhere in between a TE1 and the original MCZ Fightstick. Feels super sturdy due to it having thick metal plates top and bottom (way more sturdy than any Hori stick I have played with) and fits in my lap perfectly while still beeing easy to carry around. No annoying/sharp edges to be found on this stick. Everything is comfortably rounded, ergonomic, seamless and an overall joy to play with. The pads keep it from sliding on any surface I have played on so far. Only downside is the terrible quality of the stock buttons/stick so you pretty much have to Sanwa/Seimitsu mod this bad boy. That was to be expected for its price point tough so no real complaints there.

This might not be the best looking stick around but as far as size, comfort and functionality goes this is absolutly fantastic value. Heck, I am pretty sure this is gonna be my default stick from now on. I just love the no bells and whistles design. There is no better feeling than resting your wrist/arm on a stick surface without any screws, edges or other things that aren't supposed to be there. Kept the default art and modded in a black sanwa stick with black Sanwa buttons. I like to keep my stuff clean and simple. Can snap some pictures if anyones interested.

Only played some steam shmups with it so far. Performed as you would expect from Sanwa parts. Mainly bought it for the SF V beta so that is where this will get stress tested.

Paid around 160€ for the stick + Sanwa parts.

Or use a 360 or ps3 stick. TE2s are made for either. Razer is 360 only (no ps3)

Edit: unless you need xb1 compatibility

Yea I'm looking for an xb1 stick.

I wonder why there are 2 listings on amazon for the Razor xb1 stick? One is more expensive and has the model number. Newer revision or something?

Are they both sold by Amazon? Or is one of them from a third party?

One is from amazon, one from a random 3rd party. Usually even when something is sold by a 3rd party it'll still be listed on the same page

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DHF3NS6/?tag=neogaf0e-20

(Choose XB1, below the listing at the top of the page, it says "3 new from 199.99" Meaning there's 3 sellers)

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q3INF3W/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Same store from one of the 3 sellers on the other stick. But also a higher price on the other stick than the one I linked. I dunno it's strange to me.

I don't think they've made any revisions on the XB1 Atrox. I would go with the Amazon product.

So the 360 atrox case basically matches the xb1 version then (except for connector & turbo)? Is the top plastic (the part above and below the plexi) glossy plastic like the xb1 atrox?

Go with this one, that way you can return it no prob if you don't like it for whatever reason. Also anybody can sell on Amazon if you make a seller account, which is why you may find multiple listings on any item.

The problem is placement of the buttons though. You would need to swap cables to get the correct buttons to function.

Cool thanks. BTW I didn't know you were going to be getting rid of your TE2 stuff. I would have copped that flush plexi from you =(

Also I'm not stalking or anything lol, I just browse the trading outlet a lot.
Lol relax. I didn't even consider it... Until right now. Jk. Also, I just ended up selling the whole stick. Both TE2s actually.

Better is subjective, it's more work to go fully custom but it's worth it imo. You'll learn a lot in the process and feel like a badass after it's finished. It honestly isn't even that hard, even I managed it with some help.

That being said, I went with two gutted premade PS3 sticks for my PS4 stuff because I'm a lazy bum.

I just don't want to buy all these part then break something and lose everything idk I showed some designs I had in mind with the carpenter at my job and he already started on a wooden box

It would work like a secret box with a latch on it to see the inside. I just don't know where to go from there. I should start reading up on it some more

Pics came out kinda bad since it is night here/bad lighting:

Size comparison with jewelcases & regular sized sheet music:

Thing kinda looks smaller than it feels like in these pics.

Damn that was quick! Haha, I have a feeling that you might be just as particular about these sticks as me! How much did you get for the ki te2? I am thinking about selling mine as well.

Speaking of the te2's, my order of bezels and side panels came in, so yay customization time.

I'm aware of this but normally the same product doesn't have multiple pages. All sellers get piled on to the listing for the product. Hence there's 3 sellers for the $199.99 stick.

If you're just getting a box made and putting parts into it there's very little to actually break. That's essentially the same as buying a premade stick and modding it.

Mine is pretty simple tbh. I've posted pics here before but it's just a wooden box with particle board on the top and bottom and then art/plexi over that. It doesn't take too much to make a good stick.

If you haven't seen this already, be sure to consult the bible as well...

Thanks for the pics, can you take a closeup shot of the upper left panel as well?

Specks of dust make this look dirty but that is mostly due to bad lighting + flash on reflective surface. The PS Button is a regular sized 24mm pushbutton. The smaller buttons/switches all feel really cheap but then again these kind of buttons/switches feel cheap even on expensive sticks.

So I installed the white bezel on my rivals stick, can you guess my theme?

White acrylic & white dustwasher from Art
Seimitsu LS-40 w/white shaft cover
White gamer fingers w/plungers from the clear gamerfingers

It serves it purpose but the fit is not perfect. The acrylic is not as opaque as I thought it would be. You can see the metal panel underneath it (that grey rectangle) and also gamerfingers are super loose on art's acrylics (they rotate easily).

Awesome! You could probably just throw a white sheet of paper/card stock under the acrylic to make it completely opaque.

You know I'm perfectly fine opening up pads for padhacking/soldering/dremeling/whatever but for some reason this is too much for me to do. Something about making the holes for the buttons, I just can't be bothered with that ish. That's probably alsi why I like getting my artwork printed by Art, he cuts the holes for you and they are like super perfect too. Thanks for the tip, that's a good solution if I wasn't being so lazy about it.

Loving the white stick, shaunLEGEND. It looks slick as hell.

thanks man!

Can anyone tell me why the Hori VLX is so expensive? I don't plan on ever buying it but I'm curious about that.

White power? Just kidding. Have to admit though that looks pretty nice, despite how simple it is.

I know what you mean. I guess you could always pay for blank artwork from Art which would come laser cut.
