Doctor Who Off-Season | Hey Missy, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind

I don't think he has the same slight lisp his father had though.

Yeah, that's why I was asking. I'm familiar with him as an actor and his voice is in a way lower register, is usually scratchier, and he doesn't have the lisp.

Then again, if anyone's gonna be able to pull the inflections and enunciations from his memory, I'd imagine it'd be him.

Yep. Seeing Danny Pink's face in the Cyberman suit was neat, but Moffat and the future showrunner need to bring back the half organic Cybermen. Nothing wrong with bringing the scares, kids can handle it, don't treat them like babies.

Ideally they would have wires and metal parts mixed with the human body.

If I had to take a guess I doubt we'll see more 'human' Cybermen until Iron Man is no longer a going concern. Kids love flying robot men apparently.

I cant remember where, but I read someone suggesting they should do an Auton/Cybermen hybrid which would be neat. Something in the vain of Humans on C4. Rather than humans being turned into robots you have AI being made using real human body parts.

The universe didn't die in 100 years, though. Orson Pink is from 100 years in the future and his attempt at time travel took him to the end of the universe.

Anyway, IIRC Moffat said something about him possibly being a cousin or some shit. Which really doesn't explain why the toy soldier would end up with him, or why Orson would say that one of his grandparents was a time-traveler since Danny never time-traveled.

So, either Orson Pink no longer exists, or that Danny is coming back. I prefer the former, would really hate Danny coming back.

If we just ignore it, it might go away. It's nothing like Let's Kill Hitler in terms of not making sense, and they've never tried to explain any of that.

Maybe he could at least play a cameo? Like in a fuzzy hologram?

The look is already spot on. It would be a shame to miss the opportunity.

I promise this is the last rumor I'll be posting today. I dived into Gallifreybase to see what they had to see about that earlier (pretty unbelievable) rumor I posted earlier, and it's already old news over there, as always I suppose (most people there don't believe it either, for what it's worth).

Anyway, the new big thing they were talking about is this, concerning the Private Eye business. Someone on 4chan (and that's really all the source there is, so yeah) posted this, and then on Reddit, but removed it from Reddit pretty quickly:

I have news /who/ -
Only 3 Specials in 2016 no full series.
This is to allow Peter Capaldi to direct a film he has written for the BBC loosely based on his experiences in the Glasgow punk scene of the late 70's. (This was already a stipulation in his second contract)
To search for a new companion (Coleman is leaving in Special #2 or maybe #3)
And to allow time for a new production team to be assembled and prepare for series 10. (Moffat is definitely leaving before the 2016 Christmas Special.)

So basically we are getting another year similar to 2009.

I can't tell you how I know all this, I have seen other people get the sack for doing much less than this, but -
a) I've never got info as hot as this before and I can't resist sharing it, eventhough I know I won't be believed.
b) The info is going to break soon anyway. The BBC's showbiz reporter Lizo Mzimba was here tonight doing an interview with Moffat,Capaldi Gatiss & Coleman.

Just so when the news does break You know I wasn't bull¤¤¤¤ting Capaldi's film has the provisional title of "Teenage Kicks" That will be included in the reports/press releases.

Been a long exciting night Now I'm off to bed.

And a bit later:

Bean spiller from last thread here.
Just letting you know that the BBC are issuing a press release "concerning the future of Dr Who" on Fri 14th August at 12pm UK time.
Expect news on Moffat's leaving/possible successor, Jenna's leaving,Capaldi film & 2016 gap year specials. After press release the interviews with Coleman,Capaldi,Moffat and Gatiss will go out on 1pm news and longer versions at 6pm & 10pm. Still no news why Gatiss was interviewed though, they seem to be keeping real quiet on that.

To me it just sounds like a fan putting together a couple of dots. It's fairly well known that Capaldi has been wanting to make something like that but that it's been stuck in development hell for years. I don't think for a second that he would put the show on hold to do it now though. If it really was part of his contract he'd wait until after his time on the show is over.

Some people on Gallifreybase did say it some of it fit into other things they heard - including Moffat getting ready for a different project (working on a 'bigger' version of an existing property, but not a movie version of Sherlock (someone asked). It could be the time for a Doctor Who movie if it's true - Moffat always said he wanted to do it himself if it happened during his run, but that there was never going to be enough time to do it without sacrificing the show. He is the kind of man who likes to leave his mark on the history of the show, so who knows. The amount of coverage he's promising does seem a bit much for an announcement like that.

We don't have any reason to believe any of this is true, but the only reason I'm posting it is that they've said that the BBC will announce all of this next friday. We'll see soon enough if it's true or not.

That's it for me and Doctor Who rumors for now. There's too many much up nonsense surrounding this show that it's not worth it - I mostly just like enjoying the episodes. Gallifreybase isn't exactly a fun place to visit either. So yeah, I'll leave it at this for today.

Interesting, at least we don't have to wait long to find out if it's true. About a Doctor Who movie, Moffat said this just the other week:

"What are we going to do? Shut down for a year and make a movie?" he asked. "Does everyone really want that? One movie instead of a whole series?"

The writer is also strongly opposed to any efforts to make a Doctor Who movie with an actor other than Peter Capaldi playing the Time Lord.

"I think that would just be incredibly damaging to the franchise," Moffat argued. "I'm totally in the Capaldi camp."

I don't like that he refers to it as a "Franchise."

Even if people do think of it and consider it to be such, the person in charge of the story? I'd prefer if their default mindset towards the series is that: Series. Story. Show.

Not business-entity.

TV shows, video games, toys, audio plays, even a card game at one point, and the "Doctor in Distress" music video. It's a franchise.

I feel like I explained myself pretty decently following the sentence you quoted, though. I didn't say it wasn't a franchise. Just that I'd prefer the guy in charge of the storytelling think of it AS A STORY first.

I get where you're coming from and I agree, but I don't think Moffat was saying that with pound-signs in his eyes. From what I understand, being the showrunner on Who also makes you the person in charge of all aspects of it - including all licensing like comics, games, novels, all that. He doesn't actively write any of it of course, but he does have to approve all of it. He's the person people from Big Finish and Titan Comics come to just to see if their work doesn't contradict anything from the show, or does anything too similar to what he has planned, and to make sure everything that's released with a Doctor Who logo meets a certain standard.

In regards to the movie: the Sony leaks confirmed that the BBC was really interested in getting that going, but it hasn't so far because of the reasons discussed earlier in this thread. Moffat has been the person holding out as far as we know - see for example when they announced David Yates was going to do a Doctor Who movie a couple of years back, and that Yates said the movie was not going to follow the tv show but be its own thing - a reboot of sorts. Moffat objected heavily to that (rightfully so), and it didn't happen then.

Oh, that would be another awesome idea. AI can be really creepy when handled well.

Anyways on the topic of that rumor, I can respect Capaldi wanting to write and direct his own film, so I guess I'm willing to wait for more DW since he's so awesome. Plus his punk history is really cool and it's something I'll watch for sure.

I hope that's all true, if only because I don't like seeing Who stay the same for too long. I'll take a "year off" if it's making way for a new team.

Nah, I get you. It's just one of those things that instantly jumps out at me. So much of the fandom doesn't think of these stories as stories first, but as some sort of pop-culture sporting affair, so to see the showrunner reinforcing that unconsciously is like a quick little flick on the ear. Not bad, and not harmful, but just ever-so-briefly annoying.

Turns out the 4chan rumor is false, the reporter they mentioned in the rumor posted on Gallifrey Base and reported that there is no interviews with the cast lined up for Friday.

New trailer at 7pm UK time.

It's usually helpful to remember that Lizo is enough of a Who fan to actually post to forums himself!

You compare it to Abrams' answering a fan question at Comic Con referring to the Star Wars "IP" and him refuting the notion of the "IP," saying it needs to be a story they are excited about and want to tell first and foremost. It ultimately doesn't mean much what the creators/showrunners say in these contexts when the final work is out there, but it's certainly comforting to hear them say the "right" things.

Yeah, that's a solid comparison that should have occurred to me sooner, thanks for bringing it up. And I remember being like "YES" when I heard him say it. Granted, it's coming from the dais at a comic convention, so of course it's technically spin, but it's good to hear that kind of spin sometimes. I appreciated it more than I did the "practical effects practical effects practical effects" drum-banging.

That moment when you realize that Clara Oswald is Melia Antiqua from Xenoblade Chronicles.

I guess I have some catching up to do.

Very cool trailer.

It made me realise that, in spite of being around forever, Clara's never properly met the Daleks. There's Into The Dalek and the 50th and stuff but seeing her surrounded by them reminded me the closest she's come is being turned into one.

Also Missy laughing maniacally in a Dalek's eyestalk <3

Well there was also Matt Smith's last episode. Unless you're talking about Clara directly interacting with them.

Good stuff. Not quite as strong as the first trailer, but eh. Looking forward to it.

Supreme Dalek and Black modern Dalek (RIP Sec) in attendance, along with the original designs with added blue eyestalk lens, an Emperor's guard from Evil of the Daleks, and the Special Weapons Dalek from Remembrance.

Yeah, I just feel like one of the defining moments of being a Doctor/companion is when they're surrounded by a roomful of Daleks and have to condescendingly talk to them. I could be wrong but I feel like Clara's never even spoke with one.

Its good to see a big group of them either way. They clearly tried to treat them differently the last few years after being a tad overused. I miss the huge collections of them yelling at one another.

The dragon/sea creature thing looks crap, but it managed to get me hyped, and I wasn't sure if I could be after last season. Hoping for good things from everyone else this time around, because Capaldi is the still the highpoint of the show.

Well technically, she's met every Dalek that every Doctor has met. :P
