Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

after re-watching this demo, I really hope that you can infiltrate an FOB without the defender getting notified immediately. It seems like it would be so much fun simply challenging the defender based on their established defense rather than a P v P element.

Not sure from the demo how this notification gets to the defender, so I guess we may just have to wait and see

The closer we get to release, I start to realize how ambitious this game truly is.

Phantom Pain is going to put many games to shame.

Shit : (

That's much less interesting.

Now when it says you waste your infiltration, does that mean there's a limit on how often we can attack other FOBs?

I am not sure since there is no real detail on that subject. I assume it wastes your money spent on deployment for invasion, the stuff you fultoned on your way, etc. But this is just me guessing. They don't mention there is limit on how often we can invade.

It is, it was implied you can only build an FOB once you've finished Motherbase.

The article specifically says "once you progress certain amount of story, you will be able to make FOB that is separate from Mother Base." So I don't think you need to 'finish' mother base to start building FOB

Seems like it'll be pretty damn hard to successfully invade an FOB. Even triggering Reflex Mode marks you for the owner of the base, and they have an essentially infinite supply of playable characters to come at you with. You'd hope the rewards would be pretty worthwhile.

Paz is on her early twenties. They would have had to clone the Boss a decade before Snake Eater, and surely it wouldn't have been Zero.

Nazi scientists who fled to South America were working on genetics(Twins, breeding, etc.). Easily turn genetics into some form of cloning and Nazis getting a hold of the Boss's DNA during her time in WW2 then boom. Paz Clone!

Tbh, I've only watched like a trailer or two so far, and I skipped the videos here and there.
I'm going in blindly, which I usually do for most games.

Therefore, I have some questions regarding FOB.
1. Can I engage/start investing in FOB in offline mode?
2. Can I play the game offline all the time so my FOB won't get invaded?

2. Can I play the game offline all the time so my FOB won't get invaded?

seems the whole point of fob is to get invaded, extra gmp seems a bonus for those who risk it. i'm guessing you won't get that bonus gmp is you're offline, or that'd be a gaping loophole.

I'm a huuuuuuuge fan of the Metal Gear series (actually is my favorite of all time), but unfortunately I won't be getting this game now because of the inflation in my country. I think I will wait a couple of months to get it for my future PS4.

Well, yeah.
I think that should be obvious enough. I guess my plan would be holding off on FOB until much later.

Not going to create a thread just yet, but there are rumors that the game broke the street date, and will arrive in stores tonight in one or more GCC countries (UAE being the one name-dropped).

Same thing happened with lots of games, including MGS 4.

Really shitty if true. I can understand a couple of days but 3 weeks early is ridiculous.

3 weeks and will i be able to restrain myself?

Will i fuck.

I'll probably google tpp reddit/4chan once or twice but leave it. I'm looking forward to it too much. I'll just watch something nice and happy like Clannad.

Oh crap, why would they even ship games this early to those countries since it seems to be a constant that they can't keep street dates.

Does this have any impact on British sites that sometimes ship their games in from the Middle East, like SImplyGames and thegamecollection?

This will be the first Metal Gear Solid I'll play at launch. I've cleaned up the franchise, but every game has been played post launch (sometimes by years) due to not having access to the PlayStation platform at the time. In each and every scenario I had at least some story elements spoiled.

Let's see if I can survive three weeks.

I think the only one I've played at launch was MGS3 as a teenager, remember going into the store to pick it up for like $110AU which was a big deal for me back then. I'm actually going to the exact same store to pick up MGSV when it releases too which is nice.

would be nice but i live in a small town with only 2 walmarts and 2 gamestops no small game stores that would ever sell a game early...

ive never gotten a game early ever...
plus i already preordered. im never trading this game in so i wanted it digital download.. just sucks they did it at 12 midnight with batman so i just thought ... it just sucks est people get it 3 hours later..

pleeeeease someone tell me that at least its has pre install?

Spent a whole week looking. Nothing came up, at least not within transit distance of actual Chicago and not the outlying suburbs.

Yeah, after talking to others in this thread it sounds like the USA's corporatism has really fucked independent game stores into extinction.

The UK has a healthy independent industry for pretty much everything, and every city I've ever been in has had at least two independent game stores. People from three disparate, large USA cities ITT said they have none.

Edit: also, getting a game early is nice, but it's not all that. You're not missing out on too much.

You guys, you all know the real explanation for Paz's reappearance.

"Beeg Boss, my name is Atlantica Ocean. You keeled my seester."

Amazing, and I could completely believe it.

Hah, a small town is one that doesn't have a walmart or a gamestop my friend.

I definitely don't look forward to a hibernation period if people get the game early, but damn it I refuse to be spoiled!

Same here, Metal Gear Solid on PS was probably the closet I played to release date by a month or so.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised anymore ;D

Maybe not the best place to ask but I've played all the numbered MGS games but why is this the last one? Surely it would have made sense if MGS4 was the last one given it's set in 2014, especially with that ending...

A) it's literally the last one in terms of development. It's the last one series creator Hideo Kojima will work on. Ever.

B) the end-point of any narrative is to end up back where you began – different or ironically the same. To come full circle. MGSV will cement the cracks between the start of the first Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid 1, and the plotline started with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. MGSV will be the 'missing link' between Solid Snake's story line and Big Boss's storyline, making the whole narrative one thread and hopefully tieing off a few loose ends, thematically and in terms of plot.

A visual example [edit:replaced with more reasonably sized, if worse quality, image]:

MGSV is probably going to fill in points 7 and 8 (top left) on the MGS series' meta-story.

It's the "last one" in terms of MGS games made by Kojima. MGS 4 remains the last one chronologically. MGRising takes place after MGS 4, but splits off into its own story that's fairly independent than that of Big Boss and Solid Snake.

I didn't realise thegamecollection imported from the Middle East - hope the game isn't affected in any way/censored etc

I can't like MGS3. And, with the amazing MGS5 coming, I'm getting desperate.
I'm in the prison break part of the game,
and I just can't play it anymore, I find it very boring.
I love the artstyle, I love the characters, the soundtrack, the gameplay, and the story. What the hell is wrong with me? ILOVED the MGS 1 and 2!
Can depression someway be related to it?

Please, sell me on this game.

I'm playing the PS3 version.

If you aren't enjoying it, please don't force yourself to.

Just shelve it, and forget about it. 2-3 years down the line you might pick it up again and it'll be everything you want it to be. But for now, if it's not working, just don't bother. And don't feel guilty about it.

Focus on other stuff until TPP hits.

[Edit: depression definitely could be related to it. It's common with depression to not really enjoy any of your hobbies as much as you normally would. Maybe take a break from gaming for a couple of days and try to enjoy other things. (This has happened to me.)]

You don't have that much of the game left anymore anyway. Finish it just for the sake of moving onto Peace Walker and later on MGSV. Or just go to YT. If you haven't enjoyed the game up until now you are not gonna start doing it five minutes before it ends.

I wouldn't say it's less interesting. It means the invader must always prepare for a strong opponent when invading. Also it's fair to the defending player, because it gives him a good chance to defend his base.

Yeah the system would be very abused as one could become a master at stealth and never be caught.

Oh no. Not this. I can't deal with this. It makes me crazy. Watch the game leak on pc too, so all the Pirates get to play it before the legit people. I hate this crap.

All this invasion talk is kinda amusing to me, since it seems like FOB is basically an endgame system. By then your MB will be so huge and full of shit, you probably wont care too much about the "stuff" on FOB's.

"Oh no... someone slightly unfilled one of my bars".

It's ancillary to the main experience, and exists only to the extent of your interest in the mechanic. All heavily weighted toward endgame from what I can tell, after you've reached the max you can grow MB.

I could see the fuss if folks were invading MB.... that would be more like Souls, and likely quite vexing. This is something else though.

I think if you do FOB's before endgame, then it helps speed up R+D, resource collection, etc...at least thats what I got from the video they put out, could be wrong. If I am, please do not shoot me!

i think it would be awsome if there are invaders in the open world part.
then getting notice that you are invaded and that you can get sniped/shot/cqc from all over the map at any moment.
maybe even set traps for the person playing the mission

Well it is not ancillary to the experience if you enjoy the challenge of dealing with human oponents. Then it is quite fun! :D
