Got mine on GMG with my coupon for 19.86. Hope this will hold me over till The Phantom Pain. The PC screenshots on Steam make this update look amazing, I hope this holds true. Would like atleast a demo video.

IMO preloads for anything over 20GB is a bad idea - In my experience I've spent longer (As much as 3x as long) waiting for the damn preload to decrypt than I spent downloading it at those sizes.

How long until there's an HD texture mod?

Like never?

I'm assuming you mean to say that short/non-existent pre-loads periods don't bother you and you're not genuinely trying to argue that pre-loads in general are a bad idea because they may inconvenience the relatively few users with fast connections (not that they're forced to pre-load).

Isn't the game already in HD?
If by 'HD' you meant is 4k HD, then I'm not sure.

If Valve doesn't flip the switch today, then I assume there won't be a pre-load period.

Welp.
I really have to finish this one before MGS V rolls out lol.

This getting a PC release makes me quite hopeful that Final Fantasy XV will also end up getting one.

In fact, I would be surprised if they're not bringing XV to PC.

While they are pretty cool, I think I summoned once in my entire playthrough. They are really unnecessary.
So was probably 1/3 of the cast I never ended up using much on my first playthrough. The fact the game has so many characters to utilize including summons is a good thing imo. Maybe unnecessary on your playthrough, but I quite liked skating around dangerous areas with Shiva freezing everything in sight. And leveling them up was kinda neat to be able to do since they weren't static in their power capacity.

Just have someone send you a gift copy in exchange for, say, PayPal Bucks. It'll work just fine provided the buyer isn't in one of these countries or Turkey.

There have been a few games that I have bought out of region and they have refused to install afterwards so I don't do it anymore. Don't like this region locking bull.

Can you buy it on Greenmangaming ? It qualifies for the pre order stuff if that's what you wish.

Not available in my country, fortunately it was finally made available for preorder today. Not a great price though. 10% off 3980 is almost highway robbery.
At least I'm happy to know I'll probably be getting XV for 8900...

That happened because you didn't know what to look out for. It wouldn't be the case here provided you avoided purchasing from someone in a trade-restricted country, but I suppose the point is moot since you've already pre-ordered on GMG.

Just bought this game for the third time, and I still haven't played it once. I think that's a backlog record. Or maybe just a little crazy. Oh well. Bring it on SE, give me a properly optimized game or else I'll...I'll.......I'll.....

Texture resolution has nothing to do with render resolution. You can render a game in 8K if you want, but low-res textures stay low-res textures.

...and there are loads of low-res textures in Type-0 HD.

Only characters and certain assets got the boost in texture quality.
I would love someone to do a proper HD texture pack to bring the rest of the game up to scratch.

However whether people can actually mod the game remains to be seen.

So was this any good?

As long as you go into it not expecting it to be a normal Final Fantasy game or expecting this to be a current gen graphics showcase, it is fine. When you do the battle areas, it is obvious by the size of each area it was a PSP game. The RTS sections are way too easy, but also completely skip able if you don't like that stuff.

I played through it on PS4 and liked it enough that I will play through it all again for the PC release. I really, really like a few of the characters in the class and the ones I didn't care for I just leveled up offline using the trainer thing.

The voice actress that does lightning's voice being the slutty teacher/trainer chick was a nice twist. (not really a spoiler)

I see.
Well tbh, I haven't watched any HD video in detail since this HD version announced. I guess the most noticeable ones would be the buildings and environment textures, right. But I highly doubt this game will be modable.

They're really fun to go back through shorter missions on to grab A/S ratings, which unlocks items at the armory and unique rewards. Some missions are near impossible to down with normally leveled characters without "cheesing" them with summons.

How come this was so shitty on ps4 ?

I mean, yeah PCs are better.

But look at horizon infamous and uncharted.... Look at batman, ff15 ....

It couldnt handle a psp port at 60 fps ? Okay. But it couldnt handle a psp port at 30 fps with better graphic options and coming with a shit camera as well as sickening motion blur ?

I bought this shit on release and I m salty.

At least FF15 demo was worth it.

It's locked at 30FPS on PC too.

Underlying systems are often the culprit when it comes to games on older systems (like the PSP) running at less than 60fps. (Hardware limitations are a big factor too of course, but bear with me.) AI, animation, etc sometimes rely on a certain frame rate to work properly.

This is a port, not a remake, and a lot of that underlying work is still there. So it's not that the PS4 or PC "can't handle" this game at 60fps, they clearly can, it's that reworking the AI and animation systems of the game to support 60fps was probably outside the scope and budget of the project.

And the camera and motion blur were eventually patched on PS4/X1, and will ship fixed on PC.

It's not that it 'can't handle' a psp port, it's that swapping out assets is a lot different than re-coding the entire game, which uses the frames to calculate things like damage and movement.

When people forced 60FPS on Dark Souls 1 it messed up weapon wear and jump distance, two things you wouldn't normally think would be so closely tied to the framerate.

The motion blur was added and was scaled back a few months ago, and the camera was drastically improved too. And even with these the game was still highly playable (I beat it with them unpatched... twice)

To compare it to Batman is just showing a general ignorance of how games are made.

I didnt know they improved it with patches.

I only got Duscae 2.0.

If you really like the gameplay and story I m sure those issues didn't matter.

But i had a lot of issues connecting with the game in the first place. So all the hindrances just pushed me away completely.

Might give it another try.

iirc Tabata even said that its possible that they will bring it to PC later on
...will try to find the exact article...
EDIT: found it on dualshokers
Tabata-san also added that getting to sixty frames per second would be impossible on consoles. With a full open world game, with action-based combat, so many special effects and moving objects and characters, running at 1080p and 60 FPS would require a top PC.

Speaking of PC, Tabata-san mentioned that there’s no current solid plan for a PC version, and that’s because the tuning for a PC game is different from a console game.

At the moment the team is focusing on getting the final game out and tuning it for a TV screen in the living room. The team feels that people have been waiting for the game for a long time, so it’s important to release it as soon as possible.

That said, once the console version will be out, they will want to think about the next step, and they’ll consider a PC version too.

Tabata-san is also very interested in Steam
, because it allows to reach a very different demographic from the one offered by consoles, so he’ll be looking at creating opportunities to use the platform in the future.

I was pretty sure there was topic about it here on Gaf

So uh, anyone concerned about... Control options?

I get a fishy feeling from looking at the Steam manual having keyboard controls categorized in Type-A/B/C/D/etc. What's to say this isn't going to have locked down keyboard customization like XIII did? With French-keyboard buttons also set with no way to disable them to boot.

Yeah I bet it won't be great on Keyboard and mouse.
Best advice would be to play with a controller.

So what makes this game worthy of the FF name?

One of the best FF's in a long time (I haven't played XIV though).

Airships (and one especially cool one if you're an oldschool fan and you find it), a world map you can run over to explore - including hard to reach places only accessible by chocobo and later fully controllable airships (not just picking a warp location from a menu), a military-type cast and setting reminiscent of FFVIII, all 12+ squad members with you on most missions (though 3 playable at a time), conquering lands and unlocking explorable towns with npcs and quests in them, a badass Toneberry can show up to help you on your mission if you're lucky, wild high-level Catuars, Behemoths, and Malboros running across the world map, villain has that FF final form...

It's a fun FF. Better than XIII imo. I think the story falls apart in the last chapter, but it could have been the choices I've made. I've read that you need a 2nd playthrough for the full story. I don't have time for that anytime soon though. On to the next game.

Purchased it and now I'm looking forward to playing it in a few days.
I'm surprised pre-load isn't available yet though. I mean its only 2 days left before release.
I hope this is a sign of things to come, what with XV on the horizon and all. More PC FF games would be great.
