Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Honestly, we've seen enough gameplay in the trailers so I don't really need to read the reviews to educate myself what the gameplay is like. With the release only a week away, I'd rather just play it safe and stay away from any written reviews.

Eh...

I'll more than happily read the reviews that have been vetted as spoiler-free by other GAFer's who might not care to be spoiled. There are a lot of questions about how the gameplay comes together that aren't answered in the gameplay demonstrations.

A couple of reviewers have already warned against reading reviews as there's apparently a major spoiler that some reviewers don't actually view as being a spoiler, but to MG fans it absolutely is. So it's likely just going to be thrown into reviews casually without any warning.

HEY GUYS WE DONT THINK IT"S A SPOILER BUT TO MGS FANS IT IS BUT IT"S NOT A SPOILER!

seriously. They should just leave it out lol

Seeing that one early mission from TPP replayed in five different ways cemented my belief this is a proper gameplay return to form, commitment to and evolution of the series design identity as a tactical stealth game.

Actually after Gamescom was done, we saw that small side mission being played in eight different ways. That's not even counting the examples Kojima made that never got chance to be played in a public way [for example, storming into that base with a tank :D].

:)

TPP will be such a awesome game for experimentation in both stealth and action scenarios.

Scores prediction:

Eurogamer: Essential
Gamespot: 9.5/10 or 10/10
gametrailers:9.8/10
Edge:10/10
IGN: 9.8/10

Yeah, I'm optimistic because the gameplay will be amazing. Every time I watch gameplay footage for TPP, I say this is a dream come true. Being a huge fan of the series and stealth games in general, I always wanted a game like this. This is how to make a stealth game, take note Ubisoft.

Let the scores prediction begin.

Yup after my first full playthrough and after I get really used to it all. It'll be such a fun game to mess around in.

in GZ you could listen to guard conversations. I hope there are plenty of those in TPP.

I must have missed three. I've seen:
- D-Walker usage
- Nonlethal with Quiet
- Sniper
- WRECK SHIT FROM HELICOPTER
- C4 guard

I never want to play A Hero's Way ever again I have played it so many times already

Funny thing is, every playthrough of that mission involved some kind of advanced item/buddy. Not a single one took the "ground zeroes approach" - tranq pistol and nothing else.

So at least I will have that, an unique combination that I can enjoy playing [night time stealth play, of course]. :)

Does anyone know if any basic Snake movement options have been added compare to Ground Zeroes? Ie, not counting vehicles and the like.

Hmmmm....

Cardboard box sliding down hills
Using his robot hand to attract soldiers [alternative to "knocking on walls" move]
Using "fultoned big items" [containers] to reach high platforms
Climbing on big vertical pipes [shown in motherbase video]
Mountain climbing at pre-made locations

The multitude of different approaches have had me convinced (on top of having played Ground Zeroes) for some time now that the gameplay in MGSV will be top notch.

I can't see many scenarios in which MGSV would be reviewed poorly (aka not high 8's/9's) based on gameplay alone. I think if it does, it'll all be based on story and other extraneous stuff.

Or perhaps for game design outside of its core gameplay, like pacing, progression, mission structure, etc.

Two gamescom playthroughs I dug up

100m+ long sniper shot [which is a bonus objective]

Using airstrike to gain entry to the facility

new stats screen [if I'm not mistaken, 100% accuracy would give 6000 points]

I'm thinking about how I'm going to do my first playthrough. Probably a sniper playthrough, probably lethal.

Well, you ain't gonna get tranq sniper for a while anyways. Tranq weapons are not easy to get/develop in the early campaign.

I just remembered, 50 hours of "analysis complete" "marker placed." "weather changed." Is there a way to turn that off?

Is the idea of playthroughs gone now that it's mission based and you can easily replay a mission with the push of a button. During my first play through I will replay many missions a ton of different ways including full stealth, full leathal and a mix of both. I assume the best score of the run is the only one saved.
