Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain | Review Thread | Words That Kill

Is there a story explanation for how enemies are so amenable to join Snake's team after a fulton to Mother Base?

Not so much story-wise as mechanically.

In PW, when your Heroism is low, kidnapped soldiers spend time in MB's brig until they are "convinced" to join and become less hostile (we're never told what that involves exactly but I doubt it's Big Boss saying "CAM AAAAAAAN, GUY! CAM AAAAAAN!").

As your Heroism level increases (feats like headshots, no-alarms, no-kills etc. all increase it) and people hear about your adventures, freshly captured troops tend to "turn" quicker. At a very high-level, they require no convincing at all. Hell, people come to MB specifically to join up (volunteers).

Man the steelbook is sexy.

You haven't lived until you experience the mindfuck that is MGS2.

Seriously, I was in my early teens when I first played that game, and I didn't even play a metal gear game before that. To call my experience with it a "mindfuck" is probably an understatement if anything.

MGS2 was my first foray in to the franchise. Can you imagine what such a game would do to a young mind back then who never really gave the franchise a shot prior?

Such an impression is why MGS2 remains to this day my favourite MGS game.

for a second there you made me think that steelbook was included in the collectors..

I'm so mad at that steelbook, it is not bad, but I prefer that silver superior one

I dunno I think it's really bad lol. I would have ordered the US collector's edition if the steelbook were even remotely good :p

Yep, same experience. MGS2 filled me with interest in politics because I was enamored with the idea of the Patriots.

Years after that I got good grades in history class because MGS3 made me look up stuff about the cold war, and through that, more historical eras.

Thank you Kojima!

its not only in US, EU has the same, but there is an extra edition with the game and that superior steelbook

I wish I could buy it separately.. it looks so good

MGS2 was my first and favorite as well.

2001... so I was 18, and had just graduated high school that summer. That particular set of events freaked me out. I was a little scared but it was mostly anxiety. I didn't know if the game was glitching or if Kojima had just lost his fucking mind. Thankfully, and not uncommonly, it was the latter.

I stay away from reading reviews because i dont want to know a lot of things about the game.

But i do have a question, have reviews said anything about any gfx improvements compared to GZ? Are textures better, less pop in for example?

MGS2 is probably my favourite game sequel of all time. It just blew away my expectations. I didn't understand everything in the game but i loved everything about it. Raiden in MGS2 is probably my favourite protagonist, just the way in which he grows and develops as a character as the story goes is really incredible. I loved the mindfuckery especially and defying expectations. MGS3 is definitely the best game prequel of all time and was a beautiful game to look at and play. I frigging love the original MGS trilogy, it's the holy trinity of games for me. Hope MGSV brings back the magic.

I'm having a real tough time deciding whether to get this on PS4 or PC. I have a PC capable enough to handle this on max at 1080p/60 no problem. But at the same time I got Ground Zeroes on Steam (after having already beaten it on PS4) and it just didn't feel right playing an MGS game on PC! I know it's irrational.

Are you using a gamepad? You can set your controller up with your PC and there's virtually no difference besides graphics lol

Supposedly no steam preload acc to the other thread . Maybe that'll tilt you towards ps4

I can't possibly stress this enough: at first I hated, hated, with a burning passion, hated, that you weren't Solid Snake all the way through the game. However as I reflected on it, even soon after I finished it, I realized that my expectations had been subverted 100% and the pure shock and genius became apparent. And really, is that such a terrible sin?

Sure, I would've loved a version of the game where you play through Snake's side of the story but it's intentionally teasing like that and would kind of ruin the idea. I still wouldn't mind it but it isn't necessary. Only a completely and utterly genius madman could make me feel that many different things about one game.

MGS2 isn't my favorite, but for me it's a series like Zelda where I frankly love most of them, but I probably acknowledge and respect its brilliance a bit more nonetheless. If even just a bit.

One review mentioned there's some texture streaming going on but its very minor

There's less pop-in, especially when using binoculars.

Got it pre-ordered on The game collection but payment hasn't been processed yet, when I pre-ordered God of war 3 with them it came 2 days before release. Really hope they dispatch tomorrow it might come Saturday. I'm worried as Monday is a bank holiday here in the UK so no postal service so any later and it might not even get here release day :(

Seems like SimplyGames pre-orders should be coming tomorrow, so you could swap over to them today and hopefully get the game Friday.

Any info about new difficulty settings?
I know each mission has its own difficulty rank like in PW but i want to know if there´s a mode like Extreme/Euro Extreme.

There's a new Metal Gear Solid game coming out in less than a week.

Stating the obvious is sometimes so sweet to state. Don't mind my indulgences.

No spoilers - but I would like to know if there are a lot of bosses and are they varied in their methods of attack? I love MGS3:SE's bosses the best of all the boss battles in the Metal Gear saga - how do MGSV:TPP's bosses compare?

Anyone else get a dispatch email from SimplyGames but not have money taken from their bank account? Kinda thinking maybe they haven't actually dispatched my copy...

God damn it...

SOMEONE SEND ME AN EARLY COPY

Why am I still here?

Just to suffer?

Every review...I can feel my heart, my soul...even my deprived fingers...

The hours I've lost...the days I've lost...won't stop hurting...it's like they're all still here

You feel it too, don't you?

I'm gonna make Konami give back our past....

I agree with all this and we are basically the same age cause I graduated 2001 as well.

I remember letting people in my classes borrow the MGS2 demo and they'd bring it back super hyped about the game. Though one guy wanted to borrow the Zone of the Enders freebie that Konami generously included with the demo.
