Officer shooting suspect arrested after standoff

SUNSET - Louisiana State Police told media in St. Landry Parish that a man suspected of shooting a law enforcement officer and stabbing two people is in custody after a standoff in a gas station.

KATC-TV reported the suspect was apprehended around 6:30 p.m. after authorities gained entry to the office where the suspect had barricaded himself.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said a Sunset Police officer was shot after responding to a call on St. Anna Street where two people were stabbed. Guidroz said the man then drove into a nearby Exxon gas station and made threats to the three people inside, all of whom escaped without harm.

Guidroz said law enforcement stormed the building, which forced the gunman to barricade himself further back in another office. The sheriff said a negotiator was trying to talk with the man while SWAT crews tried to gain entry to his location again.

Louisiana State Police responded to the scene to assist St. Landry authorities, and said the suspect was arrested a short time later.

Holy fucking shit. They're coming out of the wood work, every single piece of shit that's been waiting to explode.

I really hope that the end result with these becoming so frequent is that our current gun laws will no longer be able to be ignored.

Someone murdered school children and our answer was HERP DERP maybe teachers should have guns.

RIP to the vicitims.

so sad today.

Until stadiums of thousands of people are executed with a live recording by a person who amassed stockpiles of guns in a completely legal fashion, there will be no scenario, not even a rapid increase in mass murdering, that will have the slightest possibility to spark change in gun legislation.

All we can do is offer our condolences and sit idly by.

Guys guys just mourn we can't talk about guns in this country. Now isn't the time. It's an insult to the public.

Both are sadly true. So sick of this shit. And this is coming from a person who enjoys guns and still wants to own one. But I'm not crazy like other people who believe more, not less guns will solve all of these problems.

I lived in the US back in 2010. I'm moving back there to live with my partner next year for work.

The dumbfuckery that is the country's stance on gun control is actually making me very concerned about moving back there.

It's hard to even feel anything anymore. Of course there were multiple mass shootings today. Why wouldn't there be? That's the country we've created.

I really wanted to come with fresh stuff to the next one but I was expecting to wait AT LEAST a week.

I'm scrambling now.

Just use logic and critical thinking instead. You're still gonna come up with (at the very least) "Let's reform the gun laws a bit!".

Holy fuck, what a terrible day.

Hoping there are no fatal victims this time. Gun culture in the US is crazy :/

OK what can we as individuals do to get much stricter gun control rolling because this have been ridiculous for a long time now.

I'm not quite sure I've heard a gunshot I'm my 44 years in the US but yes this is getting out of control.

i don't think you can do that much honestly, gun control law are so politically toxic it requires a bipartisan agreement to even have a shot of passing some form of control laws, it doesn't help that the NRA is so fucking powerful.

Wtf is happening today

Today?

("Mass shooting" is defined as >4 people shot in one event)

I'm numb to this shit at this point. This just happens way too fucking often. This country is fucking ridiculous, and I don't see shit changing when we have more guns than people, and NRA lobbyists doing everything they can to prevent real gun control from getting passed.

RIP to the victims.

Kind of sad to see people saying "Wtf another one?!" or some variant.

There are mass shootings all the time. Today's just different in that two are in the national media.
