SUNSET - Louisiana State Police told media in St. Landry Parish that a man suspected of shooting a law enforcement officer and stabbing two people is in custody after a standoff in a gas station.
KATC-TV reported the suspect was apprehended around 6:30 p.m. after authorities gained entry to the office where the suspect had barricaded himself.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said a Sunset Police officer was shot after responding to a call on St. Anna Street where two people were stabbed. Guidroz said the man then drove into a nearby Exxon gas station and made threats to the three people inside, all of whom escaped without harm.
Guidroz said law enforcement stormed the building, which forced the gunman to barricade himself further back in another office. The sheriff said a negotiator was trying to talk with the man while SWAT crews tried to gain entry to his location again.
Louisiana State Police responded to the scene to assist St. Landry authorities, and said the suspect was arrested a short time later.
