This country man.. Fucking awful people. Something really has to be done, because more and more people will continue to die. I'm hoping this ends in the best possible outcome.

Time to beat the lobby movement. This is evil. Do you honestly think crime would increase I'd you banned guns. Just because some folks think it's a right don't make it right.

In the dark ages it was OK to burn witches and kill anybody who wasn't Catholic.

America is in its own modern age dark age.

Kind of sad to see people saying "Wtf another one?!" or some variant.

There are mass shootings all the time. Today's just different in that two are in the national media.

It's relieving that news of mass shootings is still shocking to some people. It's already bad enough that I live in a country where it's so common place. I don't need the event to ever become something that is "oh by the way" news.

So you read about this and think: "Eeh, just another mass shooting. Totally normal."

Fuck me. Any other civilized country and people (government included) would be going absolutely mental about this. What the fuckis up with America?

The thing is, you can't really do anything about it with parties like the NRA involved.
You also can't just erase the millions and millions of firearms in people's homes right now.

America is gigantic. Gigantic. Millions of people go without ever seeing an act of gun violence in their entire life. Not a justification, if I could create a giant magnet that sucks up guns, I would. But there is no way to physically collect all the guns out there. Also crazy white people in the middle of this country.

So it's best to just let it happen? They've got to do something, unless someone, somewhere has decided that the fallout from fruitcakes overreacting to a firearms ban would be too harmful to the economy for it to be worth it. I bet the nutjobs would actually consider themselves at war with their government.

Actually, I bet that's probably what's happened.

God damn.. This.. this is eye opening to see all in one info-graphic. Fellow Americans we have a problem and we need to band together to figure this shit out.

You say that like you're ok with that.

Oh, that makes it okay then.

I don't think he means it in a negative connotation. I think he's just surprised that people are surprised.

No, but you can start the process of limiting gun culture. If you start making it just a little more difficult to obtain guns now, then it will be that much easier in the future to minimize the importance of guns in peoples lives

It would actually incite a civil war. Without a doubt. All of the red states would actually use their firearms on anyone who came to take their guns. Legislation will never solve this problem. Some sort of gun-impervious force would have to collect guns and the leader of said force would have go into hiding to avoid being assassinated. The religious conservative demographic is that big in this country, and there's no way to segregate just those people.

Well, America could split into zones and all the gun people could move into a zone if they wanted. Like.. Texas to Florida.

God damn.. This.. this is eye opening to see all in one info-graphic. Fellow Americans we have a problem and we need to band together to figure this shit out.

We would need to overthrow the current government, most likely using violence, and install a dictatorship that choose what's "good" for people because they're too stupid to do it themselves. In the current "democracy" we have we can literally change nothing.

Oh come on. It is not like there there's solid data out there showing that severely reducing the number of guns out there would reduce the number of gun deaths.

Oh wait. There is? Never mind then.

Works for me! GTFO.

Nah, we non gun supporters just need to create a bigger lobby than the NRA and buy our politicians for more money than the NRA does. Typing that sentence makes me want an overthrow though. Fucking sad what big money does to politics.

I heard that if were weren't many guns, one person would just walk around shooting people, and no one would be able to do anything, because there weren't enough guns. Like what always happens in all those other countries all the time.

I would actually support such zones. Like, Christian conservative zone here, liberal crazy zone here, pockets of different immigrant countries here, there, and then a zone that's just normal America. And moving costs and such would be subsidized.

Never happen.

Fuck it. Whatever. You all know how this goes. The same questions are asked. Nothing gets done and the gun lobby wins. Every time. I wonder how many more victims will it take before something finally happens.

Well at the very least I hope this hostage situation is resolved as peacefully as possible. :-/

There have been over 850 mass shootings in the USA since Sandy Hook.

If the mass murder of children wasn't enough to turn the tide, nothing will be.

I don't think the body count matters to the gun crazies. When there's a bad day like today, gun purchases actually spike because people are afraid something will actually be done.

They're not thinking "how do we solve this"

Reduces taxes for people who hand over their guns. That's the only way to go.

As an American myself, kinda scared to even go anywhere anymore. Thankfully I live in a not so big city, but I'm sure there are messed up people here just like it they probably are everywhere. I'll just keep staying inside as much as possible.

Do you realize how low the odds are of you being involved in a mass shooting?

Damn.

Came across this article about the effect of gun control in Australia from 2012.
What happened next has been the subject of several academic studies. Violent crime and gun-related deaths did not come to an end in Australia, of course. But as the Washington Post’s Wonkblog pointed out in August, homicides by firearm plunged 59 percent between 1995 and 2006, with no corresponding increase in non-firearm-related homicides. The drop in suicides by gun was even steeper: 65 percent. Studies found a close correlation between the sharp declines and the gun buybacks. Robberies involving a firearm also dropped significantly. Meanwhile, home invasions did not increase, contrary to fears that firearm ownership is needed to deter such crimes. But here’s the most stunning statistic. In the decade before the Port Arthur massacre, there had been 11 mass shootings in the country. There hasn’t been a single one in Australia since.

Living in America must be terrifying.

it isn't. Life in America is pretty great. but from the outside, it probably looks terrifying.

this is a problem that needs solving. I hope the candidates for 2016 have something to say on the matter, especially after today.

Gun culture and gun ownership is ingrained into American society. The right to own guns is included in the U.S. Constitution, and if the government ever decided to start confiscating or even implementing more stricter gun ownership regulations then there would be a big risk of armed conflict. Fact is there are a lot of nut jobs out there who would rather die than to hand in their guns.

So we either accept these mass shootings as part of American society or risk another civil war

You pay people to turn them in and if people refuse to comply you take them by force. Its the only thing that would ever work.
