R.Mika confirmed for Street Fighter V

thats like saying bayonetta is objectified. pro sex or pro body doesnt mean objectified. and seeing how they all kick ass in street fighter there shouldnt be a problem, especially with male objects like vega urien ken ryu and possibly the remaining stuff

Sure, but I didn't say Bayonetta was objectified. She's empowered.

Capcom always promises a more robust story mode in their games and then they end up just being like any other fighting game story mode. Basically arcade mode with some different anime and/or cutscenes. Hopefully with SF V they'll be a bit of a change and evolution there. I believe Matt said that it was gonna be different this time around but they said that about Marvel vs Capcom 3 and that was pretty bare bones.

All They have to do is bring back World Tour mode and add/improve to that and everything would be golden.

I just don't see how titties on a supreme scale and cheeks mean wackiness. On top of that, it's not that people want "less" people to be offended - it's a good target to try to make NOBODY offended. If you end up saying (and you're not saying this, just an example) "Well 45% of people are offended. Not a majority, so..." or "Only 10% of people are offended. Hell that's almost perfect!" - that's not the goal. The goal is nobody.
Ya lol, GOOD LUCK TRYING NOT TO OFFEND ANYONE.
Lololololololololol.

All characters should just be different colored silhouettes, which are sexually ambiguous because who knows... IT MIGHT OFFEND SOMEONE.

Edit. Also pretty funny considering your handle is Vince McMahon, which combined with your avatar, I'm assuming you watch wrestling - the bastion of non-offensive TV entertainment. The highest possible class is always displayed!

Wasn't Phoenix used a lot in vanilla because of dark Phoenix gimmick?

Phoenix wright. I should have been more specific. But yes the bird was dirty in vanilla.

With all these fan faves making the initial roster it definitely makes one wonder how Capcom plans to string this eclectic group into any kind of coherent story mode.

Well they're individual stories so it can't be too hard. Capcom would never do a MKX styled story mode. As far as eclectic characters go I would love LOVE to see them whip Sodom out of nowhere.

If you designed her "less offensive" or with more clothes on or whatever, then you'll be offending a different group of people.

Can't please everyone. The goal of offending nobody isn't possible

Zangief isn't designed to be attractive to female players. Mika on the other was designed to appeal to males.

Wanna know what happens when it actually happens? Look at the Final Fantasy mobile game where the main character was really sexualized. Look at how many male gamers biched about it.

Says who? Zangief and Urien are quite sexualitied. Males and females find them attractive. They're wearing even less than R.Mika.

Sure, but I didn't say Bayonetta was objectified. She's empowered.

So the question is, Mika kicks ass, Bayonetta kicks ass. What actual portion of their characters differ that make one a problem and the other not? They are both sexualized obviously, so there should not be a difference.

Women have titties, some big some small. I don't see how having diversity is a bad thing and/or making something hyper sexualized. Sure if every woman character in the game had the same over the top proportions then I think we'd have a problem, but they don't. People talk about Cammy's ass all the time but honestly it's not even that big compared to what's out there in the real world, same goes for the chest on R. Mika.

I mean hell, R. Mika's trainer could've been in the game. You can't say R. Mika's chest is massive once you see her.

Totally, I hear you. We shouldn't shame people for having larger or different proportions than anyone. Or even characters, you know what I mean. I mentioned earlier I'm not asking for puritanical values. Just something a little better.

At this point I simply won't play as her around people, especially for instance not around my girlfriend's children, or anyone older than me because it's an embarrassing thing.

But its near impossible to make nobody offended no? I mean I certainly think they could have made R. Mika a more grounded, down to earth wrestler if they wanted to but its clear they wanted to make her an "outrageous" character. I'm not sure how that's embarrassing or outdated. The more outlandish you make a design, the more you're going to get extreme reactions (be they love or hate). I just don't think Capcom is interested in making a game full of Ryus and I'm not sure if the audience at large is interested in a game full of Ryus. (Just to be clear, its A-OK if you think her design is shit, I just don't think this is indicative of a "problem" per say).

Before clicking some hours ago, I was thinking to myself, some people can finally be happy after her appearing at the top of all those character polls all these years. But after watching the trailer, it was surprisingly hype, especially for me as a huge wrestling fan.

She wasn't that much of a wrestling character in Alpha 3, but not only did they rectify that with her movelist now, but she even has a tag character as an assist too. Most interesting character for me by far too, if El Fuerte doesn't make it in, she'd be my reason to buy the game and be my main character as a wrestler again.

Where are people seeing an RKO? Are they talking about the bulldog?

Wondered too, I actually went back to the trailer to watch again and I'm sure they're calling the Bulldog an RKO.

are you going to play as Urien around your girlfriend's children?

V's suppose to be about the fall of Shadoloo so why not.

Remix the SFZero 3 Shin Bison theme too.

Do we actually know that's what the story is about? Or even when V takes place chronologically? The only thing we have to go on is the Charlie comic and all that indicates is Charlie is alive again around a time that the Illuminati exists (which doesn't indicate when V takes place, necessarily).

I'd like to see some sort of quote from Capcom instead of just assuming because Bison being in this and not in III means Shadaloo is going to be destroyed.

are you going to play as Urien around your girlfriend's children?

Yes, because they need to be taught what power is.

So the question is, Mika kicks ass, Bayonetta kicks ass. What actual portion of their characters differ that make one a problem and the other not? They are both sexualized obviously, so there should not be a difference.

It's all in how they're portrayed, and what their story is, and what happens in-game. Bayo does a bunch of INSANE SHIT and is a wrecking ball of destruction. Mika gets the shit beat out of her on the reg.

She was high up in the popularity pole despite making only like one appearance before so it makes sense for them to stick close to her original design to appease those fans.

someone will always be offended tho. It is impossible to please everyone. Like for example, if you had your way and that drastically changed up Mika...a lot of people would be pissed. Some even offended as it could mean that body type and such is now not acceptable. So that is not something that can happen.

and again I rather not have SF be this super sterile and plain series as that is not what I like about it. I like the eclectic mix of designs and personalities. There is a variety (male and female). Yeah gaming as a whole needs to do better but I feel as if SF is already doing well in that sense.

Yes Mika could be more conservative and such but it defeats the whole point of the character and it would go against what most of those who are hype for her return and honestly that is the group that really matters here. Birdie could get changed because most didnt give a fuck about him.

I also just do not see the big issue in this case. Exuberant Female Wrestler based off of exubrent female wrestlers in an wacky series is super wacky...stop the presses. I am all for the whole equality push as of late but I feel like people often look at the worst places and thus comes off as more of a skin showing = bad than intended.

Going to drop this before I get banned.

Bolded is the disconnect here.

I don't think covering her up and making her more conservative is better. Not because I like TnA or want to be pandered to but because it does not fit the character and it is boring as fuck and SFV needs some of that classic SF wackiness. If SF was this super legit super realistic serious fighter, then yeah Mika wouldn't fit...its not tho,..so your idea of better would actually be worse.

and honestly being forced to change a design because some people are upset is not something I'd like to see precedent for. I feel like as long as the design fits the world and character a designer should be able to do whatever they want. This idea that everything has to be this safe and unoffensive norm is just bullshit.

I get it, people like R. Mika, but all the criticism she gets is completely fair. At least sexualization is actually common is wrestling, but it's is a problem in that world as well (I worked in the industry for several years, and believe me when I say that the girls do not appreciate the standards).

This isn't about everything being safe and unoffensive. It's about pushing for better representation and character design. All of SF's female characters are sexualized and it's completely fair that some people would like the series to stop leaning so heavily on cheesecake. Sexualization is fine, but it just feels unnecessary in the world's most popular fighting game. The characters deserve better than that, honestly. Chun-Li would still be Chun-Li if she wore pants.

Plus it'd be a lot less embarrassing to pull the game out in front of female guests.

Do you watch WWE around them?

Yes, WWE is family friendly entertainment and on the WWE Network, for only $9.99, you have access (with parental controls) for over 100,000 hours of content.

I don't think you're anywhere near being banned or even perceived as hostile. This is how we learn, how I learn, through discourse and understanding both points of view.

Lemme just say this - thanks for engaging me the way you did. I appreciate your posts and will keep them in mind moving forwards.

Ya nothing offensive or embarrassing there. SF5 is much worse.

LOL

Not to be dismissive, but some people are way too serious about this stuff. At the end of the day its fiction.

So I just found this thread.

Are you some kind of joke account? I'm being honest here, because you post the same stuff over and over again in threads like this and never even try to have a discussion with people about it.

That post was a joke, pal.

Also you're conveniently ignoring the actual discussion I had with a couple posters. I guess it's easier to handwave and say "LOL joke account" instead of listen.

You've got some nice inconsistencies in your logic. Should probably reflect on that for a minute before crusading about how Mika is OMG SO OFFENSIVE. Professional TV wrestling is about the trashiest thing there is, and you're getting your panties in a twist over an animated FG character, who is more clothed than many if the females you watch. Go figure. Don't have a mental breakdown later or anything once it dawns on you.

Zangief isn't designed to be attractive to female players. Mika on the other was designed to appeal to males.
.

Mika is a female. Males sexualize females. That's a part of the procreation process. Why is this something to be ashamed of? This is like some weird catholic guilt thing isn't it?

It doesn't matter what she's wearing or what her figure is, someone will sexualize her. Want proof? Go Google search fan art of a 'wholesome' female character.

People are offended by this character? I guess her butt is pretty in your face. Whatever. She's got character man.

I think she looks fantastic. I'm glad they weren't afraid to make her more bulky than the other females in the game. Can't wait to try her out.

Same here. I always get scared that I am coming across as yelling and angry in posts lol.

I didn't expect to hear this kind of things with someone with your avatar.
Unless you mean female wrestlers cannot be powerful and fun at the same time of course.

I assumed it was just a double butt smash, but after watching that gif it's clearly a butt based piledriver. I never expected it to be even more awesome than I originally thought.

Yeah it's pretty spectacular. Easy to miss, but Mika and partner both grab one of Vega's legs and slam him after doing the McWhopper.

This is good news. The roster needed a serious kick in the ass since Ken and Vega were added. Hopefully the remaining characters are fresh and interesting picks like her too.

I'll be happy with the leaked characters (Urien, Karin, Alex) returning.

Yeah, if the prophecy gets fulfilled the initial game will be great for fans of grapplers. Only so-so for fans of fireball zoning, lest some of the brand-new characters prove otherwise. Eh, guess I'll be going with Ryu & Nash.
