R.Mika confirmed for Street Fighter V

Certainly. But the objective is different. If the Godfather had some hardcore porn scenes in it... Nah. It depends on each director's vision, but there's a reason why porn doesn't appear in 3000 theaters on a weekend.

I'm sorry, but there's also a reason why movies like Fast and Furious or Transformers are that popular too, despite the value of some particular scenes, it's partly thanks to those as well.
Fighting games aren't aiming for being the Godfather of video games, as good as they can be.
Again, artist vision, for better or for worse. This isn't Rumble Roses, and Street Fighter isn't having risque costumes for the first time in history (same for Tekken, Soul Calibur, and countless others).

There is fanservice in this, sure, but it's the same for the other characters, and there's actually a lot more justification and references in this one.

edit: this thread is moving faster than I thought.

This. Them joshi tag moves!

It sends a bad message when we try to defend video games as an artform and the first thing that pop ups for a massive franchise like Street Fighter is naked mods for horny teenagers to beat their dicks to.
This assumes that the original intent of the mods in doing so is to get people sexually excited. What if that isn't the case? Just because a woman models nude for a fine art class, does that mean the intent for her being there naked is to get the painters sexually excited?

Obviously not. Me thinks there is some strong projection going on here.

Avid film-watchers don't have a myriad of "basement-dweller" stereotypes thrown at them.
And overt censorship for moral purposes can also destroy a medium's credibility as an artform.

See: American comic book industry during the '50s.

I don't feel SF or any of the games you mentioned as niche - I would view them, in the film equivalent, of having the same heft as a Transformers or a Fast and Furious. Porn is a niche, and games that focus on "beat off material" are typically shunted to the back of the store, so to speak, and ignored. That's why I brought up the Godfather as a comparison.
I do strongly believe games are an art form as well, and I feel porno is, in its own way. Even the most basic art history class lays out the evidence that games, ALL games, are art.

I don't think you're disagreeing with that, but someone else mentioned they don't feel it is, but I do.

Hahahaha at street fighter isn' having risque costume. This is not the first time Mikan feature in the game you know. Also Elena wearing a bikini. C.viper having that shirt. Sakura wearing a school girl outfit for whatever reason. Cammy 1 piece. R.Mikan looks pretty normal for SF really.

That's a separate and distinct issue entirely. R.Mika's inclusion or omission wouldn't have changed the preconceived notions of ignorant observers of gaming.

It largely has to do with the age of the medium. There are still people out the that consider movies to not be art as well.

That's the benefit of being several generations old instead of slightly older than one :P

Why are we talking about mods anyway? Small time endeavors that appeal to small audiences that see no support (at least the lewd ones ) from Capcom or the general playerbase. You're not going to improve gaming's reputation by banning things (how would you even accomplish that?) that are already allowed in other media.

Yep, that's what I just said.
(I agree with the part of the reply I cut, it just didn't work as quote for both)

I don't have to: you think Capcom's 3D artists don't use nude bases? You think they're masturbating to the nude renders before they clothe them?

That's not a public release. I'm talking someone releasing a full, finished mod where females are nude and NOT for the purpose of sexual excitement.

Part of the problem with getting people to see games as an artform is realizing that there's many people (especially in the older generation) who will never acknowledge games as an art form no matter how it changes or what comes out of it.

What do mods have to do with anything? It's a unique choice available to gaming, but if people had the opportunity to force nudity in their movies, do you not think they would?

That's why celebrity nudes are advertised everywhere.

Yeah, that's what's scary. Lots of people would if they could.

That's not the problem. Feeding into those bullshit reasons as to why those people believe games aren't art is. But apparently wanting the video game industry to grow up is considered blasphemy.

Can we talk about how pretty Standing Normals cancelled into Vertical Charge specials is?

Because that gets me a little hot.

Lemme tell you about a character named Chun-Li in SFV...

a ton of her combos become more optimal once you start canceling st.mp into LK Spinning Bird Kick. I hope they keep it that way at least.

Well, I was hoping she'd make it, and she's got fucking tag team combos.

I'm so in now.

Right?!

I didn't think she'd actually get in, but not only did she, her tag partner came along for the show.

This game keep getting better.

Literally all I'm waiting on is Juri now. Got TWO characters I'm ready to main.

Maybe stop care whatever other people thinks. Find some friend to hang out with and just enjoy video you know.

Real talk, the only female SF character I can think of with no fanservice is Makoto, and she's balanced out by freaking Elena thinking she's at the beach 24/7

So you all went mad with Lucky Chloe, but this is fine?

See, this is a problem.

Define, "you all."

I had absolutely ZERO problems with Chloe and still think she's dope, for example.

But... Elena's not wearing...

You know what, I'm not even gonna'.

If you want an echo chamber, sure. Find others who don't see a problem with it. But I feel keeping broad horizons and being open to new ideas and points of view is more important. So I like having friends that challenge my viewpoints and help me think outside the box, because that stuff doesn't come naturally. That's how we learn.

Are you even reading the same thread?

The same people who bitched about her are bitching about Mika.

And what do you mean by you all. I thought Lucky Chloe was fucking harmless but, people claimed "AHH MY TEKKEN IS RUINED" and I am fine with R Mika and you have people saying "AHH MY SUPER SERIOUS STREET FIGHTER FRANCHISE THAT NEVER DOES ANYTHING CRAZY IS RUINED FROM A CHARACTER THAT WAS IN SF BEFORE."

That said if you don't like the design or the characters themselves that's fine but, people acting like it's the end of the world, please calm down.
