Rumor (with a side of salt): Shovel Knight coming to Smash Wii U/3DS?

Coop Shovel Knight sounds spectacular. I wouldn't even be mad if that turns out to be the megaton, as it really is one in my mind. I had come to terms with it not existing after it was said to be too much work/ out of the project's scope during the kickstarter, so it would be a nice surprise for it to come out later!

I don't understand why co-op would require an amiibo.

Save you relics and health/magic upgrades to your amiibo, put them in your friends game. It also advertises exclusive relics for the mode so I imagine you'd save them to the amiibo as well.

Would mean if SK is coming to Smash he'd NEED a second Amiibo as they can only have save data for 1 game

If we're speculating, I would reason the Shovel Knight amiibo isn't Smash related; it doesn't have the same packaging as the Smash ones. In fact, it would appear the "base" probably would have the logo on the box, the head of the shovel with SK's head silhouette on it. That'd be easy to incorporate into Smash however....

The curious part (and maybe someone could chime in here) would be whether or not an amiibo would actually be able to download character data into the game. I can't really remember, but I thought someone once mentioned the amiibos can save about 1 MB of data, and the Smash characters are larger than that. That's not to mention the fact that most all amiibos have been a "Read/Write" thing going on, where they can only read and write data to one game. Basically, if this amiibo comes out, it'd only be able to create data/save data on Shovel Knight, and not to Smash too.

That's not to say they can't do it and change everything, but based on what we've seen so far, it seems unlikely this amiibo would work with Smash. But they could make a Shovel Knight Smash amiibo too; the pose here in the SK one is an odd, stationary pose and the "logo" SK where he's holding his shovel up would be dynamic enough for a Smash amiibo.

There's something about that Amiibo design that feels off. Like the Amiibo seems too small for the packaging. He'd only be as tall as some of the smaller Smash Amiibo. Which feels king of weird, since it seems out of proportion and his shovel's stick would be thinner than most Amiibo pieces generally are. His waist also seems thinner than official art portrays it as.

It's a toy.

If he's in it I hope they don't base his model off the illustrations and instead hes literally exactly the same as he is in the game. Just an 8 bit character.

I don't know, it feels less and less like it's gonna be Smash. Nintendo would be talking about this whole Nindie@Night thing more.

Same. I booked #TeamNeutral, so it doesn't matter to me either way. But the Local Co-Op mode seems to be the megaton announcement along with the Amiibo.

Wait wait wait....a Shovel Knight Amiibo is confirmed?!?
Yes, but it's unrelated to Smash.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain that - if we were to get an announcement even vaguely related to Smash - someone would have mentioned something.

They'll announce the Shovel Knight amiibo, it'll be out later this year. In a month or two we'll get a Direct (or an alternative announcement) of the next DLC character(s). If the rumor pans out, Shovel Knight will be among them. If not, he won't be.

Moreover, I expect there'd be two Shovel Knight amiibo - one "generic" brand, similar but not identical to the picture being passed around, and one specific Smash version released early next summer. Overkill? Probably, but I imagine one of the two would be fairly low-print and hard to find.

At an event Sakurai was at. Is Sakurai at PAX?
You don't understand. NOA held him at gunpoint and said "Put a Indie in to show we support them or ELSE!" and now he won't talk or host a direct about Shovel Knight because he is mad salty. In the next Famitsu interview, he will pretend like Shovel Knight doesn't exist. So him not being at Pax means NOTHING!

#truestory

I have no idea if hes there, but he might not be due to Iwata's passing.

I find it extremely hard to believe they would reveal a DLC character with no prior fanfare whatsoever at an event that AFAIK won't be streamed and that has barely been acknowledged by Nintendo social media themselves (all I'm seeing is a retweet on NoA's twitter). Sure Pac Man was a behind closed doors reveal, but that was at a Sakurai-hosted E3 event that everyone knew about beforehand.

If SK really is in Smash, I highly, highly doubt he will be revealed tonight. Anything is possible I guess though.

I highly doubt we'll see anything about Smash at PAX. I am hoping we see a confirmation to the Shovel Knight amiibo with the respective new content it "unlocks" though.

Well, In a way it could have been fun that they announced Shovel Knight as a new contender but at the same time the ballot isn't terminated yet.

One thing I am sure off, is that Wolf is coming in, one way or not.
He was my main in Brawl and I miss him a lot :(

This Source Gaming article brought up a good point on how all the DLC characters besides Mewtwo have shared resources in regards to animations and such.

It looks like this will be nothing, so I'm going to just go to sleep. Just hearing thirty seconds of that guy singing was a crime to my ears anyway.
