Dishonored: Definitive Edition review thread

Playstation Universe 8/10
Well, apart from packaging everything up in a nice bow it offers nothing but a graphical touch up. It’s a port rather than a remaster and sadly that means it doesn’t run any better than it did before (still 30fps if you care for such things). Then there are the loading times, oh my, the loading times are aggravating. At times they seem longer than before and in any case they are always far too long for what the game is. The other gripe is a less problematic one in my case (though I’ve heard other have it worse) in that there have been minor glitches and a couple of occasions where screen-tearing occurred, but they seemed like inconsequential isolated incidents in terms of the overall playtime, but that may change from user-to-user so pay heed. So basically if you own all this on previous gen consoles or PC then forget about grabbing this for now unless you absolutely must have a current generation compendium of it or your old copy gets murdered or something. It doesn’t stop it being a fantastic game, but the lack of improvements where it could have so easily been improved make this less than essential for all but the newcomers and the die-hards.

With some stomach I could have forgiven the 30 fps and worse graphical fidelity (compared to PC on highest settings) but the loading times are inexcusable. It was actually the worst flaw from the original game, because going full stealth forced you to reload a save fairly often. As much as I love the game, the reload times are the thing about it I remember the most.

What a selfish opinion this really is!

So a company shouldn’t spend a little amount of money getting a team (Normally not the main one or in house either) to port over a game to new consoles for people who either want to play it again on a new system or for people who never got round to playing it in the first place, all while expanding your potential audience for the sequel?

And so what if they are advertising their new game, are you forced to buy it? Does it take away vast amounts of resources from teams who would make new games? Does people who havent played it before for whatever reason deserve to never get the chance to play it without buying other systems? The answer to all those is No!
Don't waste your time responding to the anti remaster crybabies . They're the most most unreasonable and unrational group of gamers on the forums. Far worse than port beggars. They think the gaming world revolves around them, act like nobody wants to play old games on new systems, act like new games are getting cancelled...need I go on.

Seriously just ignore their crap. Complaining about the QUALITY of a remaster is fine though.

Dishonored was a little behind the curve on lighting, lip syncing, some of its texture work and a few other bits and pieces in 2012 and this release does nothing to rectify any of that. Nor does it deliver 60 frames per second gameplay, which is a huge missed opportunity. The Definitive Edition’s load times are also a lot longer than on last gen console and PC.
Stylish art
+Open gameplay
+Distinct world

– Load times
– No new improvements

Eh to me this does not sound good.

quoting you as you mentioned it but maybe others will know too.

how do i get the upgrade for 14.99? like i redeemed it on ps3, its even installed but its still at 29.99 on store. is the upgrade on the ps3 store or something?

thanks in advance

It was just a pre order price incentive. It's back to £29.99 now it's out regardless unfortunately.

Anyone know if it's at least a solid 30fps? I missed out on this game last gen and would like to be primed for part 2. It's disappointing it's not running at 60fps, maybe they didn't want to set expectations for that same framerate for the sequel?

But if the framerate is at least a solid 30fps I'll pick this up later. Not at the current asking price but on an eventual sale.

I am disappointed it's not 60fps, but it is still very very playable. I played the opening of the game, leading up to what becomes your main base, and it felt like a very smooth locked 30fps experience. I was worried it would suffer from screen tear and that kind of nonsense, considering how much grief they've been getting or it, just in case it really was a terrible port.

Should be 60fps, would feel great at 60fps, but from someone who never experienced that I can live with it just now. Game still has art design that trumps any minor flaws it might have. Sound design is on par too. I just LOVE the atmosphere in this game. I spent hours on the PS3 just soaking it all up, taking my time, and I am going to do it all over again here. This probably is one of my favourite games of last gen, right after TLoU and Journey. So happy to have it on PS4. It makes a pleasant change from games rushing you through, to have one that almost actively encourages taking your time.

My inital run through was appalling, my stealthyness non existent, lol. Looking forward to actually retrying levels in this to improve my success rate, easier with a console with standby available so I can jump back in over and over.

So far it's been a solid 30fps. But I have t encountered any areas that might test it.

Seems like a real lazy port :(

Good if you haven't played it yet I suppose, but I was looking forward to it being at least on par with PC. It's not that taxing of a game.

Well, what the hell. The digital version of Dishonored Def.Edit. i bought on the german PS Store sale has no english language ... big fat smh. I have my PS4 always in english because i like to play everything in english. Now the game starts in french. This digital version only includes German, French, Italian, Spanish ... Would not have bought it if i knew it before. First game on PS4 (and maybe PS3) that didn't have the english version. Game sunk way down below my "to play" list now -_-. Definitely not the definitive version for me.
