Halo 5 Opening Cinematic

Real elites as I know them would have clotheslined one of those spartans and screamed into his face before trying to kill, all I can see in that intro is bigger sized grunts being slaughtered.

Modern halo is upsetting to me, story wise.

Most elites now in the Halo universe are not nearly as well trained as during the human/covenant war. They are not nearly as effective as they used to be.

Just watched that for te about the sixth time.

That was how I imagined the spartans when I read about the spartan IIIs attacking that covie base in the ghosts of onyx. Seeing them do that was amazing... But it cant be said enough. That fucking music is incredible

And their equipments are barely in good shape because they used to rely too much on the Engineers and now they don't have them anymore.

Fact is. I didn't read the books, I only played the games where John-117 does play on legendary, providing me with some of the finest gaming moments I had in my life.

I am happy that they've decided to follow the books an that this is good for many of the books' fans, but I'm none of them. I am a fan of the games.

Heroic is, defined by Bungie, the way the game is meant to be played. Not Legendary. :|

In the context of a super soldier running down a mountain and then jumping in to a descending drop ship, I really don't think either of those Elites knew what was coming for them. She jumped in and out in about 5 seconds. In the context of the situation it is not crazy at all.

The action, acting, animations, and music were all great. My only very small complaint is the last 5 or so seconds at the end before the cliff jump when it looks like they are all kind of floating because there isn't any displaced snow when they run. But in the grander scheme of things, who cares - it is a video game and it looks amazing.

I'm calling it now: Blue team will not have such a badass introduction. Osiris are 343's favorite lol.

I am going to guess that their introduction will be a stark contrast to Osiris. It won't have to be a 'whizz-bang-boom' killing fields cinematic. I expect more of a surgical, heavy force for brief intervals expression of power.

That's the first trailer since the Halo 3 bubble shield trailer that actually makes them look like Super Soldiers.

I wonder if the bump to 60 FPS will really improve the movement speed in the campaign.

Very much surprised that the GAF reaction to this is overall positive. Usually Halo 5 threads turn into a muck of complaints.

Watched it once, made me excited for the game one last time before launch. Media blackout commencing (it helps to have MGSV to hold me over).

This is what I expect from halo, not john woo :(

I do expect to see some Kelly action ;)

Blue Team get the ending :)

I hope the game ends on a new Halo with chief! That would be my fan dream.

Wow!

Works as intended. I´m hyped.

EDIT: They´re really trying their best to have everybody confused between this and Destiny.

The fireteam is called Osiris :D

Holy...if only the graphics looked like that in-game (not just this, but all current gen games) and I wish the action was that intense during gameplay. I'm ready to play so I can see how this story unfolds.

I have been seeing this all the way through the thread and it seems crazy to me that a military unit comprised of absolute combat specialists (buck was an ODST, the guys who make marines shine their boots), in armour that increases their reaction time into picoseconds and allows them to do shit that would make batman cack himself, wouldn't be able to drop into a situation assessing the tactical requirements on the fly and execute them without any drama at speeds that make it look easy. This looks like a well trained, slick, insertion crew doing their thing and it doesn't make their enemies any weaker, it just underlines how good the team are.

No sir,

But yeah i agree with you.Locke, Buck Tanaka, and Vale seem to have been doing this for a while and they are top tier combat specialist. Blue team was so smooth that they didn't even have to talk to each other when they fought. Osiris obviously planned this out as you see on the hologram at the beginning this wasn't just free styled.

so this is what Journey would have looked like if MS made it?

I'm really confused though, and I've played all the main numbered Halos. When did the spartans stop being massive, anonymous genetically engineered killing machines and turn into normal talky people in suits?

And they run around way too much. MC was a slow, heavy, plodding war machine - these guys look like they are playing titanfall. Not sure.

Very true.
The last Halo trailer to bring the Goosebump effect was Reach. Did H4 even have a live action trailer?

Yeah the "scanned" and "ancient evil" trailers were (partly) live-action, but not really up to Halo standards. Altough I liked MC's assembling scene.

+ After a few watches, it's clear that Osiris is NOT simply obliterating a Covenant ground army; this army was already under Orbital attach and dealing with opposing Covenant ground forces (Arbiter?). Osiris is constantly on the move and only engage enemy forces when necessary. So I don't think it's as OTT as the initial watch suggests...

Well they jumped in between a fight. It's not like those forces were all there just to stop fire team Osiris. I love how it felt like they used the momentum of the landing to launch themselves forward toward their target. No stop and think, just run and gun. Disruptive warfare.

+1

Nylund's books cover this fairly well as most of the OG Spartan II's had unique personalities. John (Master Chief) was always the stoic, no-nonsense soldier who relied more on establishing a nonverbal rapport with his squadmates; to the point that they could almost telegraph each other's movements during combat. The games have never really illustrated that until now, where each Spartan is unique.

I'm not sure about the Spartan IVs as I only read through First Strike, but the size difference might be due to the absence/modification of the growth serum that the older Spartan projects were subjected to. Hence why Master Chief was nearly 8 feet tall and weighed half a ton with all the armor on while the newer Spartans look more "human" in size.

As I understand it, these Spartans are not in the same league as Master Chief's. They're Spartan IV, and only went through the genetically-enhanced process once they reached adulthood, not before.

I don't know what I'm talking about.

Spartan IV's are new Spartans taken from the Marines. They weren't child soldiers so they are more human and emotional than the II's and III"s.

Chief has been doing things like this Before during and after the Fall of Reach. Bungie just never showed his ability in games before so people have this big tank vision when he's a high speed war-machine.

I will say this and it comes from someone that has no invested time in the books but watching it again the game really doesn't feel like Halo. It looks amazing but it really comes across as a different IP to me.

CG movies like this just make me think "Look at all the fun you can't have. Look at all the smooth, cool shit you won't do".

Doesn't work for me.

Looks amazing, this is what a squad of Spartans should be doing, dropping into the middle of a fight and wrecking stuff. Cannot wait for the blue team stuff.

He was never slow.

This is it. Bungie didn't translate his full abilities into the game, it could be because of the game design or not knowing how to implement in effectively or some other reason. It would be like cut scenes where you see your character do all this sweet stuff but then for actual gameplay you can't do squat so they may have not done it for that reason. Who knows. Definitely check out the Fall of Reach book. It goes into them in great detail. MC slapped a missile coming at him with his hands after first getting the MJOLNIR armor.

so it sounds like the books talk about this but the games never showed it? So I suppose it is understandable if that is the image we pick up if we've only played the games.

Were the books around before the games? Seems odd that they seem to disagree in their portrayal of things quite a bit.

That's a pretty good trailer for building hype, but even though I've read some of the books (currently reading First Strike)I agree it's a bit too Avengers and not as grounded as even the books where an Elite can be a powerful enemy in close quarters.

I look forward to seeing the full intro at launch.

Yeah, Fall of Reach came out 1 month before Halo Combat Evolved

I 100% guarantee you an Elite is not going to crumble like that in game on anything other than Easy. The context of the intro is all important.

Otherwise I'll eat someone's hat.

Fall of Reach came out a tad bit before Halo CE. Bungie failed to show how Strong Spartans and Elites actually are as well, and missed an amazing chance to show this with Tartarus Vs Arbiter. Elites are actually stronger and faster than Spartans but their skills vary on a case to case basis while all Spartans are killing machines of perfect form.

That's the problem with most hype trailers. They show your character doing far more than what you'll actually be able to do. Like taking down enemies with 2 assault rifle bullets when the actual in-game enemy will take a full clip.

Halo has been guilty of this for some time now.

Keep in mind that a fair bit of the stuff in Eric Nylund's early books (especially Fall of Reach, IIRC) were retconned by the games themselves, especially Halo: Reach.
