I'm staying in offline mode now I think. The few second menu delay is brutal considering how instantaneous it was before.

I'm 6 missions in so far. It really has me hooked. I've spent hours just capturing outposts, doing the odd side mission and trawling through all the motherbase options. The sense of progression as you get better and better at stealthing through outposts/villages is amazing.

One thing that annoys the hell out of me though is the loadout screen before a mission. The whole world seems to be based on real-time decisions which really feed the immersion. The whole idea of scouting an outpost, realising you'll probably be better off with x weapon or item, then calling in a supply drop is awesome.

But then you get this horrible Call of Duty loadout screen...

If i've got the wrong weapons, i'll call a supply drop, I don't want a shitty loadout screen...it feels completely out of place for me

I feel like the intro could have used some serious editing... Like, you could have trimmed the fat and gotten rid of half of it and it would of had the same impact.

How many times do you need to encounter big scary fire man? After the fourth time, I was getting antsy, just fucking get on with it

Just wanna point out that checkpoints in the game are beginning to be infuriating .
Some missions have checkpoints only at the start of a mission and dont have one after you complete a major objective.
In paticular yesterday i started raging on a certain mission
i did a mission yesterday where the skulls crash your heli and you have to kill them all to complete the mission. I kill all but one and get one shot. No checkpoint, meaning i do it all again. Their guns also do a ridiculous amount of damage that is unparalleled and yours do fucking chip damage. Not only that but the melee QTE counter doesnt pop up everytime. I am not looking forward to S ranking this mission. The salt is real.

My opinions exactly.

Some guy was streaming this last night and awesome 80s music was playing. Was that ingame music? Sounded too clear for background music.

"Kojima needs an editor" should be the OT subtitle.

OK what I did was, listen to all her tapes, visit her after every mission and side-op. Then when I unlocked the new area I completed one or two main missions there. Ocelot then contacted me asking to visit her.

Cool man, yeah someone else explained a few posts before too. Apparently just proceed with the main missions.

Awesome.

I made almost the same post, word for word, after playing it too. I'm curious to see if reviews mention the intro and whether or not the individual authors liked it.

It was the worst start to a AAA game I've played in recent memory.

Free Roam allows you to continue doing side ops without interruption between missions, as long as you don't need an extraction to resupply. It's pretty cool.

You mean you can finish a main mission in Free Roam and just stay there? That sounds good. Doesn't it screw with your ranking?

I don't think I've ever encountered level design which is both simultaneously brilliant and frustrating. It's a valid attempt but you can tell this is Kojima's first open world game as its making mistakes that haven't been made in years.

I skipped most of the intro since I watched it 5 times or so on streams. When I first watched it though it was goddamn awesome. Could see why some people thought it
dragged on too long

Some did, they actually cared about the story going in though, so mileage may vary, fairweather fans or newbies may feel lost.

No, I mean if you finish a main mission without being extracted by chopper, you automatically continue in Free Roam until you decide to be extracted. That's what happened after clearing Episode 3.

Thanks for the responses. I just like going into a game with knowledge of the time commitment to finish (and even then, if I get hung up I put the game down for a few months). Took me until a few weeks ago to finish Bloodborne (albeit, I took two months off from it).

Stoked to start playing tonight!

No probs man. Ask someone for a PM about how many Main Missions there are in the game. That might give you a good guide. It tells you straight up how many side ops there are (157).

Also it's worth knowing that it's a brilliant action game as well as a stealth game. So if you're starting to feel impatient just gun your way through missions, armed to the nines, safe in the knowledge you can replay any mission at any time to get better ranks :)

A very good point. It would make much more sense if all gear, buddies included, could only be swapped out on the field for a cost.

Unsure how that will work with playing other characters though (which AFAIK nobody knows how to do yet anyway. I guess Snake fulton's away and somebody else runs on-screen. And I guess that's how live Buddy-swaps could work, too.

What percentage completion do you have? I ask out of curiosity.

My percentage completion coincided with my hours played all the way through, I was wondering if that's the same for you.

I don't think that's happened for me I'm afraid! My hours played has always been higher than completion.

Could change in one session, though!. I think right now I'm at 10% completion with about 15 hours played.

I think that depends on the mission. Some missions (eg episode 11) definitely require you to board a chopper at the end, usually to return to Mother Base.

No, when you finish a mission in Free Roam mode you have to escape the 'hot zone'. Do this and Snake pauses, the game says 'Mission complete', you get a debrief screen, then you're straight back into freeroam where he was standing.

Can someone recommend me a video on YouTube that's 20 minutes or less to get me up to speed on the basics of the story up to GZ/V?

D walker with the gatling gun can drop those fools like nothing, although keeping track of them can be a pain. Once the 4 are down everyone else in the area will be stunned and you can drive the lorry away problem free. Just be careful not to shoot it with d walker.

Use the tanks.

Managed it. Phew. Cheers guys.

Hard mission that though. By some considerable distance the most troublesome of the game thus far. Not sure how but I got an A-Rank for that as well!

Just got home with gane. Put disc in, nothing happens. Off to a good start. Restart PS4,shows up as Playstation 4 Format Disc tells me I need to clear 203mb of space. Ok. Deleted over 40gb of data. Still tells me to clear 203mb of space.

Restart PS4 again, game shows up. Update file downloading. Wish me luck guys.

I agree, the thing is that if you really edited the fat out of that intro
you would end up with a slightly extended Garbage trailer. Seriously, that trailer is essentially the intro, minus the slowass scripted moments that feel like when Gears of War hides load times behind dudes talking and walking slowly.

Successfully completed my first FOB mission. There seems to be a lot to do in there, I imagine that's where the end-game players will end up spending all their (virtual) cash once they've got all the gear they need in the campaign.

Load outs are bad? Why? When you have a crap ton of weapons and gadgets to choose from and are about to take on a mission, fine tuning and trying new things before you hop off the heli is a good thing. The only thing I need when on the field is my Ammo and surpressers refilled.

I don't know what mission you're talking about, but I sometimes find that going hard and fast is the best way to get A or even S rank.

I S-ranked the 'eliminate three commanders' mission by sneaking near to their meeting room, lobbing a grenade in, silenced-shooting one that survived (when he ran out the house), and then legging it. Nobody actually got eyes on me, so it counted as no alerts, even though there was a huge explosion killing two people and someone was found shot in the face :P

What would you pinpoint? I don't disagree, but I'm curious.

I think all the level design is brilliant but there are some spots where they give the AI slightly too many options, which lead you to getting spotted frustratingly easily.

Total opposite reaction from me, this is the best intro to a game since The Last of Us.

Got The Final Countdown as my heli music it's gonna take something special to make me change it. Maybe it i find Long Tall Sally.

This is gonna seem like a stupid question, but how do you replenish fultons?

On the i-droid go to the mission tab (I think) select supply drop, then the top option. That gets you more fultons, ammo and resets your suppressors.

edit: Ninja'd. Stop it now SomTervo this is getting creepy... Oh and you Garrett Hawke.
