I like the game most when I mess up and have to improvise :D

I usually scout the area quite a lot beforehand and try to stealth kill as many foes as I can, but sooner or later I get seen. I kill instead of tranquilizing as tranq doesn't last forever.

Anyone know why some of the audio tapes are marked as yellow?

Is there a way to open doors and not have them slam open? Even the lightest push makes considerable noise. Guards don't seem to notice but it drove me crazy in GZ and it's doing the same in TPP.

At least on PC when I walk [hold Ctrl] which is slowest possible movement for Boss he slowly pushes doors open.

This fucking Installing game data bullshit is making it so I can't play the goddamn game

FUCK

Second time restarting and downloading this fucking patch

Gameplay wise it's probably the most un-Metal Gear game of the series (and that includes PW) and reminds me a lot of the first few Assassin's Creed games. Galloping around a large expanse of land on horseback, coming across the occasional solders and collectible. It's still bloody great and I suspect I'll be playing this for some time.

This is how I feel so far. It's a more Far Cry than anything else. Marking enemies and taking over outpost for loot. Far Cry is cool, but this is MGS, so I kind of expected something different.

This gives me life. I was so worried it wouldn't live up to the hype.

...that being said me being a massive MGS fan there is still some stuff i have to complain about. :P

1. not enough cutscenes and epic cinematics so far

2. boss fights

but besides that make no mistake, the game is FREAKING AMAZING.

Agro from Shadow of the Colossus is still better.

Absolutely disagree.

Red Dead Redemption horses still have this beat bro

You mean the horses who control like cars? yeah totally.

I think a lot of people were expecting something different and more in line with the previous MGS games. I mean, it's still there, just open, harder, and forces you to be more aware. I also believe a lot of people are too stuck to a playstyle/set of items when there's so much shit to mess with it's criminal.

Edit: I almost agreed with the environments being too barren and boring, but they work from a gameplay design standpoint. It feels like most areas are crafted with both stealth and assault in mind, and not so you can stick around and find loot packages or whatever. Which is highly confusing since the game presents itself like that in the first mission.

Completed Prologue and 1st two Chapters. Both Prologue and Chap. 1 took me an hour each to complete, but man they were so worth it, especially the Prologue. I'm gonna be taking my sweet ass time with this game, no question

... There's a tutorial in the menu screens, dude.

As it is: Be near 2+ guards->CQC button when prompted after slamming/CQC finishing the first one. Rinse and repeat if more than one other.

I am at work without access to the tutorials but would still like to try and get it in my head.

Yessss just got home early from work.

Now I can finally play.

The time has come.
And so have I.

I came home early too, since I'm sick, but I'm waiting for my SO to get here so we can watch the opening together. 2ish hours left :D

Next weekend I'll really dig in, US holiday next Monday.

This is the first metal gear in awhile that actually feels like a stealth game

I wouldn't say the others weren't stealth games, but this one is far more raw and less structured, which is what I imagine this shit would play out and not looking at favorable camera angles and straight up radar detailing everything. The items feel far more useful rather than just being there for one-time usage or not at all.

When I was watching some of that 500 hour twitch marathon, in ground zeroes they were running up to guys and through CQC somehow stealing their guns and holding them up with them.

Assuming that carries over to Phantom Pain, how do you do that?

5 more hours of work then I'm off to play this game. Played most of the opening last night. Was really hard to put down and go to bed.

Please keep impressions coming!

This probably automatically enrolled me in the Anti-Horse League of America but I have to say it. I have no interest in D-Horse. Just feels weird. Plus I hate having to get on and off every time I see a resource.

I just stay on foot until the game makes me use D-Horse. D-Dog on the other hand has my full support. Since he's a Diamond Dog should his name just be Diamond?

So all those people who were strong-willed enough to avoid spoilers are legit playing this now....

Yes, indeed.

that would be me in a couple hours. I've been avoiding half the internet for weeks, and I stopped using GAF's search function because it'll bring up the spoiler thread by accident. I'm not even reading this thread. Bye.

haha, right? Haven't had a chance to reaaallly go in yet

How do you grab people to interrogate? (M/KB)

Initiate a grab by holding left click. Make sure you don't push any directional key or else big boss will throw the enemy. Then hold Q for interrogation wheel.
Another meothod to interrogate is simply sneak up behind the soldier and right click to hold them up. Once held up you can interrogate by hitting q.

Trust me, sooner or later YOU WILL use D-Horse and you will be thankful for it :P

Does mother base automatically dismiss the less talented soldiers in favour for the better ones when your staff limit is maxed?

I've not left them alone to find out. I just manually get rid of the shit. It's a good gameplay mechanic actually as you now spend a good amount of time looking for the good ones while "on patrol", then figure out how best to take them down...

You can check stats on the field?

I see, I asked just before Ocelot gave me the tutorial.

How do you listen to cassetes? I found one in the prologue but the game didn't say how to listen to it.

Also is there a way to make buttons toggle? REALLY cumbersome when using CQC and trying to talk to enemies, etc, having to press (and hold) the mouse button, then pressing (an dholding) q, and THEN pressing and holding a number key, feel like I'm playing twister with my fingers.

Would be 10x easier to just have to press a button once and let go of it.

This is the stupidest shit ever and it's really fucking me off. It's ruining the experience for me because not only does it mention which boss (if any), but it also fucking tells you which mecha you'll encounter in that specific mission.

Yep it's a terrible design choice.

We're in the honeymoon phase right now, though. But after a week or so people will start recognizing that this game has some glaring faults.

7 hours in and I feels like I just scratched the surface. Never got used to controls in ground zeroes but in phantom pain they feel perfect. Still can't aim with gamepad but I feel like this is game should be played with gamepad. Graphics are amazing. Everything is maxed and my gtx970 keeps frame rate silky smooth all the time.

Fairly sure that mission 5 (rescuing the engineer) mentions the skull unit and Sahelanthropus, but neither turned up.
