Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

And? There are no microtransactions, plus they're optional so if you don't like them, don't use them!

Listen to the bird of freedom son!

I just don't like mechanics like that. Personal preference. It feels like forced grinding. I'm totally ok with it in actual free games, but it stings in a paid product.

Might just be a psychological thing, but I think this kind of mechanic belongs in a free to play game.

Then ignore it completely. It bothers you that it is in there even if you don't have to use it? What a weird complaint.

But it's a feature of the game. It's kinda like going to McDonald's and ordering a burger and fries, then being told I can either pay a little extra than usual to get the fries normally, or just pay normal price and run around the restaurant 9-10 times before I can get them. I can't stomach it, but that's just me.

You don't have to pay anything! You are just trolling I guess..

I will never understand people who complain about "grinding" in a racing game.

It's a racing game! You race! How is racing more grinding? What else are you going to do? If racing feels like grinding, why are you playing a racing game?? Lol

I feel like someone should be coordinating a time trial challenge for GAF based on the demo. I'm still installing now. :-/

I thought the xbone could install as well as download when in sleep mode.
I'm up for some time trials as well.

So is the demo's first level-up prize spin rigged, or did I just blow my entire allotment of good luck on the demo?

I didn't get the Bugatti anyway, i got a cheap car in the slot to the right of the Veyron, i did get 1 million in the spin later though.

Exactly! The mods are there just to add extra challenges for extra cash.

And leveling up? Oh noes! Like that matters in Forza. They never gate things behind levels (not since Forza 4 anyway). The most they will gate is some of the Championships.

Also, Mods barely affect XP, just like difficulty. Crew mods do not. Dare mods only do credits and Boost mods can do XP or Credits.

Stop whining people. All mods do is give you more Credits, improve your car a bit or..and less than 33% of the time...give you maybe 10% EXP.

Geez, next people will complain that people on Easy AI should get the same amount as Unbeatables.

I'm not trolling. I guess you just didn't understand the analogy. Normal price being the game, grinding being running around the restaurant, or simply paying extra for it being the microtransaction option. Anyway. Nevermind.

The only thing that would dash my expectations would be if the AA is no better than Forza 5.

Outside of night and rain I'm expecting the same basic game, just reorganized and with a lot more stuff (cars, tracks) across the board.

I see...
I have not noticed any issues in AA but I am not an expert plus I run my TV in PC mode form 8' away and it looks really smooth but I can see how it might not on other set ups

Pretty simple. Having to race more with the same cars / mods / settings / whatever it may be so that I can unlock shit that would normally be unlocked faster and therefore would make the game feel like it has a natural progression curve.

In any case, I'm ready to drop this. This is just my opinion, I don't like this system and think it belongs in free-to-play games only for the reasons I stated.

I hate how you have to grind in Mario Kart because all the vehicles are not unlocked from the start (which Forza does).

I hate how you have to grind in XCOM to get soldiers to be able to have perks.

I hate how you have to grind in Smash Bros. to unlock all the characters.

I hate how you have to grind in Mario to unlock all the levels. (Unlike Forza where they are all unlocked).

Pretty sure you just get extra money or badges or titles. Everything is unlocked other than that.

Just assume I said grind... further. I never felt like I had to grind in Mario Kart to get all the vehicles, they unlock at a pretty rapid clip. Maybe this will also be the case with Forza 6. I just find it worrying that this game has F2P mechanics despite not being F2P. That's all.

No worries, I was exaggerating as I do. :D

I know many games are putting in F2P Mechanics, but Forza 6 are at least not charging for them and still giving us a complete package.

Don't thing of them as F2P...think of them as Optional Extras. :D More bang for your back.

But...I feel like you're intentionally ignoring the fact you've been able to race every car in every track as soon as you pop in the disc.

I don't know too many f2p games that allow you to do so. Btw...progression in video games is not a f2p mechanic no matter how strong your feelings.

All the mods will do is make the single player easier. I can't imagine mods being available in multilayer, they just are there to add a little fun to the "grind" 😉

They aren't. Only a free play/career feature, will even dirty your lap time if you use them.

After spending a few hours with the demo, I feel comfortable calling this the best representation of rain, and driving in it, of any racing game I've had the pleasure of playing.

I'm absolutely floored by it, and the 15th can't get here soon enough.

Couldn't agree more. That hydroplaning is a game changer.

I agree. It's completely different experience then driving on dry Sebring. Now I want rain variant on every track!
Also that Corvette in Rivals is BEAST.

Right? And Turn 10 even nailed the sound of the puddles splashing up under the chassis... I'm just so impressed with their efforts. I've enjoyed my time with Project Cars and Driveclub, but there's a new King of the Hill. That Forza 6 runs at a rock solid 60fps @ 1080p is such a testament to their understanding of the architecture.

Bravo, Turn 10.. brafuckingvo!

How do I turn off the auto-brake?

This game keeps breaking for me and it's messing up my turns :(

In the first race (Ford Gt on Rio) they're forced on, you can't change them. Every other race after that you should be able to change the assists though! (In the pre-race menu)

I have not played a ton of the demo as of yet, so these are my initial impressions.

1. Finally a new Turn 10 intro logo...may sound funny, but was wondering if they would ever change the intro logo, so glad to see that.
2. Audio seems to be a bit better, but I don't understand why the sound when hitting another car is so low and does not sound like you impacted the car at all. All the rest of the audio seems to be great.
3. Menu and presentation are top notch, I mean the menu's, the font, the presentation is just so well done.
4. Graphically it is a mixed bag. It looks a little better that F5, but not by that much. Aliasing is still an issue although better than what they had in F5. I personally would of loved if they kept 16 cars on the track and increased the AA solution or perhaps had better shadow/lighting. But mainline Forza games have always had poor image quality.
5. I think it drives and feels better than F5. So far, it plays pretty great.
6. Pit Stops are still a really bad joke at this point. I mean it does literally nothing. You can enter the pit with and empty tank and 4 bald tires and the pit stop still is the same amount of time as another that does not need tires or fuel. I really wish T10 would finally take pit stops strategy into consideration, but since they don't allow time compression or wear/fuel compression, they probably figure they don't need too.

I definitely like the demo. Anyone notice some frame rate issues, not major but it does not feel as ultra silky like F5. It could just be the demo, but for the most part it is smooth, but noticed it felt a little chuggy hitting a corner with a bunch of other cars. I would say my biggest gripe has to be the poor implementation of AA once again. As I mentioned, I would gladly trade in the 8 additional cars on track for some better AA and better shadows/effects etc. I like how they want to push the cars on track, but it would be nice to have some good AA for once. Again, it is less jaggy than F5 for sure, but still.

My other gripes are ones that we all shared, no qualifying, no actual pitstops, changing lap count, time compression, wear/fuel compression. Full on TOD is nothing that I expected, but these other things should of made it for this version of the game.

Badned - Is the demo representative of the final game? Or are there improvements that we can expect in the final game being that I am sure there is a day 1 patch?

Overall I can't say I'm very impressed, it's pretty much what I expected really... And that's not a good thing. A few things:

- the daytime race graphics are nice
- the woman's voice over is still there and is as shit as ever - just shut up and let me play. There desperately needs to be an option to turn her off.
- music is shite
- why is the 1st race set with all assists turned up to the max as default?
- oh I see that's why... Because the game feels like it was made to be played with most of the assists on
- mods feel like they should be in an arcade racer
- races are too short, and you still always start near the back, and no I don't want to use a mod to move myself one position forward, that's cheating. Either give us qualifying or make the races longer.
- the "AI" is as shit as ever and far too aggressive, even when the aggression setting is turned on.
- night doesn't look great
- the rubbish about track temperatures being lower in the night... Yes you would be correct... Apart from the fact that this is Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi where it's still 30+ degrees even at night throughout most of the year. Why don't you tell us what time it is and what the track temperature is exactly so that we can set up our car and tire pressures accordingly?
- the rain... Oh the rain... If there was this much standing water on the track in real life the race track would be closed and races would be cancelled. The hydro planing, while well implemented is pointless... Why? Because the puddles are static. They don't change in size, they don't spread, they don't move, even if you drive around in them. Because of this, it will get old fast. You learn where the puddles are because they will be in the same place every time you race on that track and adjust your racing line accordingly. There's no other strategy needed so it doesn't really add any depth to the racing experience. It looks nice though.
- I'll say it again because it can't be said enough, why are there so many options to make the experience more casual, but none in sight to make it more "hardcore" so to speak?

I'll play through the demo again over the weekend to experiment with a few other things but this game... They need to drop the "Motorsport" from the title, it's a sham.

Only played through once, but the physics definitely feel less forgiving than Forza 5 w/ no assists. Correcting oversteer at medium/high speeds isn't so effortless this time around. Love that.

Holy shit that Indy race at 60 frames was unlike anything I ever experienced in a racing game in terms of the sense of speed.

I felt like I was gonna fucking die

Yeah I've noticed drifting a bit more round corners if not careful with minimal assists. Pretty sure I had the same difficulty settings in Forza 5. I like it too as it makes you more concerned about correcting the apex and speed into a corner.

I can support some criticism but some of these are just bullshit:

1. Nice criticism. You say the game is meant to played with the assists as an insult and then do not proceed to explain what you disliked about the driving model.

2. I do not live in the UAE, so cannot truly comment on the weather, but from a quick google search there is at least a 10 degree Celsius difference between day and night on Yas island at this time of the year. I'd imagine that would have a noticeable affect on tires so your proclamation that the change in temp does not matter is bullshit.

3. Do you live in a world where puddles form in a random manner? If so, please document it, because I live in a world where puddles form due to pooling of water in recesses and lower elevations. If a track has defined elevations, so much so that people request and expect for them to be laser scanned for accuracy, would it not make sense that puddles would form in a consistent manner? Maybe their depth and size would change with the amount of rainfall but the base pattern should remain approximately equal.

Just played the demo for a bit. Forza still has the best driving feel of any car game, the wet water is an amazing plus. Sound design continues to be top notch, the surround sounds during the indy race has reference level imaging. The 60FPS makes this game look so smooth and fast.

Still don't like what they do for for the soundtrack. The way they handle upgrades doesn't sit well with me. Sure it makes it super easy to hop in and race but it takes the fun out of tuning cars. The mods system seems done and adds dumb non racing elements to winning races. Haven't liked how Forza has handled single player progression since..forever. Don't think that will change with the new game. Also scared off by how they handled micro transactions in the past, might pick it up after some word mouth gets out about how gross they are or not.

Because as Dan has stated...they want more people to be able to play and aren't trying to be a hardcore simulator.

I mean...at this point you'd think people would get that.

The puddles will be in the same place..but does that mean your opponents will too? Doesn't that obstacle...along with racing with more/less powerful cars force you to change strategy? Has there been many/any other racers that try and simulate hydroplaning yet alone have puddles forming/deforming as the race goes on? How are the puddles being in the same place any different from the turns being in the same place every lap? Doesn't it still take skill to hit those turns correctly on the 3rd lap just as you did on the 1st?

Were you gonna be happy with anything they did?
