I'm sorry guys, I hated Peace Walker, and MGSV seems to be more of the same shit.

I loved MGS1/2/3 (and enjoyed 4 for what it was at least), but it seems I can't stand the gameplay, open world "level design" (if you can call big empty spaces that) and motherbase metagame of MGSV.

Mandatory filler missions is making me mad. We had a super cool introduction with new characters and all, and yet right after that the story completely stops and go back to grind our off-shore plant to death.

This is not how I want my console Metal Gear Solid to be. To me the story must be the main draw, and the introduction of a lot of cool boss characters in a rapid succession. Not that slow grind that looks suspiciously like I'm playing Far Cry 3/4 (2 games I also despise).

I think I should go ask for a refund.

You probably should ask for a refund.

Just got the game this morning, some impressions after playing for a few hours.

1.) I wouldn't say the opening is as WTF hype levels as other people claim, but it's still a damn great one.
2.) Despite Snake's convo-time being significantly reduced, I can't complain - he still has a decent amount of presence in the tapes. Also, Kiefer definitely puts the effort into his lines so it helps make up for it.
3.) I knew beforehand that enemies will adapt later on if you keep sticking to the same tactics. Unfortunately, I'm still doing the bad habit of silently headsniping everyone so that's gonna bite me in the ass.
4.) GOT ANY MORE OF DEM TAPES BRUH? I'm pretty glad that most of the exposition the series is known for got dumped into this format now. Helps the pacing and experience a lot.
5.) A picture of me handling Mother Base

He sucked ass in 4, though. Troy's performance is good, don't get the hate.

I don't think it's that he's bad, but more that he doesn't sound like Ocelot. It's a pretty established character, so hearing someone else do his voice (who doesn't even really try to sound like the old VAs) is kinda jarring. It's the same with Snake, since I don't think Sutherland does a particularly bad job, he just isn't Snake/Boss so it's kinda lame.

However, I think it's gross that Ocelot LOOKS like Troy Baker now, since that's all I can see when he's on screen.

Regarding GZ unlocks.

Do you have to 100% GZ to unlock content?

I completed the 1st GZ mission but only saved 4 of the 5 soldiers (I'm assuming I won't get anything for this). But if I start PP with a save uploaded and then go back later to finish up more of GZ (Deja Vu mission, nab that 5th POW) would I be able to unlock the rest of the goodies?

I'm guess I'm wondering if i re-upload a GZ later on with more stuff completed, will it unlock more content. Might be too early to know, but wanted to ask.
You don't have to 100% GZ to get stuff. I uploaded my ~20% save and got stuff. No idea if you can go back and do it again though.

So is there any in-game reason why people basically kidnapped using the Fulton system are willing to help you out so readily? Always thought it was weird

I think I'm surprised at myself for loving the game even though I hated PW. It's a joy to control and play. I think when I thought about how a linear game about BB building what he lost and returning as a legend, it made sense that it can't be done in any other way but this, on top of that you truly feel like BB in every sense.

I think the missions are not just a grind, they make sense as you're building your base you're taking out important figures within the region or are in cahoots with Cipher/other private forces. On top of that if you fulton them instead of taking them out sometimes you get more information about the person and probably other minor things within the story itself aside from them working for you. I always fulton whoever they tell me to eliminate lol.

EDIT: The story still has batshine insane moments, just spread out.

The phantom pain is the only MGS game I've ever played so sorry if this is a stupid question.

I'm only about a quarter through the games story but somethings been bugging me since starting.

Are supernatural things like fire demons actually a part of the metal gear series?

Perhaps its not for you... I enjoy the many nods to Souls games (spartan story, no hand holding, figure it out yourself gameplay), but maybe not for everyone.

At some point in the series the supernatural was more subdued, but they obviously said fuck it and went all out. Its basically an anime game.

The primary villain in MGS3 was a Russian Colonel who could inexplicably control lightening, so yeah, powers and stuff are pretty normal within the MGS universe. (Unless you're playing MGS4...)

"There's no such thing as miracles or the supernatural, only cutting edge technology."
-Ocelot [MGS2 Sons of Liberty]

That said, to answer your question... yes. lol

Don't leave us hanging like that, use the spoiler tags
Alrighty.

Don't click if you don't want to know guys.

Before Ocelot can throw a bucket of water on you, Quiet intervenes. You then get to take a sexy shower with her while Ocelot and the boys watch. One soldier actually says "Oh yeah such a naughty girl" lol

And then he was promptly taken over by Liquid Snake's ghost.

MGS4 still has supernatural occurrences.
Mantis' ghost and The Sorrow's appearance, for example.

I don't know, that just seems hilarious.
Probably not effect they were going for though.

Oh, Kojima.

Game is phenomenal so far, its so sprawling. Best gameplay of any mgs thus far. I thought I could finish this in a day, but im barely even started according to my completion percentage.

As much as I'm loving the game, I just realize that we're never gonna get a MGS in the veins of 2 and 3 anymore, ever. And that, tbh, makes me a little bit depressed.

I'm happy we are not getting another MGS2 (bait and switch), but 3 was great :)

So much for being
ashamed of my words and deeds
.

I own Ground Zeroes on my PS4 but V on my PC.

Is there a way to "import" a save without buying GZ again? For the bonuses it gives.

So is there any in-game reason why people basically kidnapped using the Fulton system are willing to help you out so readily? Always thought it was weird

They're almost never readily willing to help, at least at first, which is why they spend some quality time in the brig. Read into that what you will... Some tapes released in Japan, in PW (I think...) and the Japanese version of GZ explain that Snake is sort of like Che Guevara, a figure people are naturally drawn to due to his charisma. Which ties into the fact soldiers turn faster the higher your heroism gets.

It's easier for me to believe they're just physically and mentally tortured until they convert. Though if that was the case, one would think Snake's army would've crumbled years ago by some resentful soldier who went and sold information.

As I posted before I can't use my credit card on PSN for some reason, so I've been really upset about not being able to get this game. (No game shops in the country I live in, and shipping from Amazon US is expensive and could take a month or more)

So upset that after work I've been going home, going on the web-app and PS4 store and just trying to buy it again and again, forlornly, stupidly. Same rejection error that makes no sense every time. It worked a month ago, it doesn't work now, no one has any answers. Sigh.

So today I get home, try it, rejected, try it, rejected, probably putting my card on some fraud list as I do so, just reading GAF just clicking away and tapping X on the controller, and BOOM - holy SHIT - for some reason it went through! I'm actually going to get to play this game! It's downloading right now good god almighty shiiiiiiiiii

Now I've got to finish the Witcher tonight or tomorrow. I'm up for that challenge. Sadly I think I may have been spoiled about something major in MGSV, but the Big Boss story seems so convoluted at this point that I can't even be sure. I still wish I knew a little less about the game in general, but my hype is as high right now as it has ever been for a game and the trailers were worth it.

Now if only I didn't have 1Mb/s internet :(

Haha, I didn't realise that was an Ocelot quote. I heard one of my men say that on the medical platform when another guy suggested Quiet was an alien.

ohhh, thats what I saw a webm of earlier. Was wondering what the hell was going on there lol

You guys really need to stop mentioning the completion percentage as if it actually means something. Isn't confirmed that it's basically the same as GZ, meaning it includes filler stuff like getting all the S ranks, all upgrades, etc...?

Has this been confirmed? That is one of my worries with completion %. I said earlier that I completed all of the GZ missions and I was at like 20-25%
