I would like to watch a video of a mission on YouTube but I don't want a very spoilery mission and I'm too scared to look myself.

Does anyone have any cool videos of gameplay? I already saw the games conferences demos.

Yeah, I have them running right now. You can (I think) have it play through the DS4 speaker which I haven't tried yet.

Wait, what? I'm going to find that when I get home. Wonder if you can do it on Ground Zeroes as well. Not that I'll get back to that until I've finished TPP. So another 60 or so hours.

Do you have enough GMP/materials? I believe items other than the starting gear cost resources to deploy.

I have the GMP, but I don't see any material costs on the screen for it. I know the Phantom Cigar uses a plant, but will double check the screen next time to see if it missed something.

For some reason the loadout isn't letting me bring smoke grenades. I can use other stuff I've researched fine but it won't let me select them, they're just X'd out. Doesn't clarify why.

Maybe not enough GMP or materials? Smoke grenades use 1 material, you can check it when selecting items to see. Pressing R2 also let you know the cost overview for loadout

Being at work today is absolute torture. I just want to get home and roam around the Afghanistan dessert fultoning sheep and wolves.

has anyone been back to camp omega just yet?

“People who own GZ will be able to play a different mission(s) at Camp Omega in TPP. That’s the current plan. There’s something of a big feature involved. It’s never been done in the games industry before. So I can’t go into detail about it, but I think when you experience it for yourselves you’ll be surprised. It’s something that’s only possible through video games.”
- Kojima

I'm still really curious as to what he meant.

The only thing I'm thinking at the moment, is that camp omega may appear as an MGO map?

Don't have any videos offhand but you can search for Chapter 1 Episode 3 if you want a non-story heavy mission (it's technically required, but it's mainly just to get you used to the mission layout of the game), it's a fairly basic one that has a lot of approaches so you can see a variety of play styles.

Even though I rented it like six years ago and played for about five hours all my memories of far cry 2 are coming flooding back. Not in a bad way!

The game just feels fucking great. Every encounter is a fun puzzle, and unlike other MGS games you always feel in complete control. I'm sure the copy paste mission design will grate eventually, but at the moment there's so many possible approaches that every outpost is engaging.

As someone that's only sporadically played the other games in the series, doesn't care about the overarching story, and thinks that Kojima is the absolute antithesis of a good writer, the lack of cutscenes and fucking endless exposition is so refreshing.

How do I destroy the tanks in mission 8? I don't have mother base leveled enough for a rocket launcher and I spent about 10 minutes applying C4 and it doesn't even work.

Man, this thread moves quickly!!!

Couple more questions...

Firstly, outpost clearance, is it persistent, or do they re-staff.

Secondly, free roam, can you tackle main missions from free roam, or do you have to start them from the mission select menu.

i Have a couple of questions:

1) So my R&D was able to produce a new version of my rifle that has a DOT sight. In the description it mentions it is user removable. But on the field I tried to customize the rifle (removing DOT sight) and I couldnt. Is my only way of removing the DOT sight to go through the loadout menu and choose a previous version of the weapon? Sounds kinda silly to me if that's the case but I couldnt find a solution to customize optics another way.

2) When you liberate outposts. If you leave the map and go back to ACC or MB, when you return, do enemies respawn?

Anyone? WOuld appreciate it.

I turned it on in options just then. Press the bottom right of the touch pad to pause the games, go into options and control settings and there's an option in the bottom " Controller Speaker".

Just tested it an the cassette tapes don't play through the speaker. I'm at mother base atm but I don't think it will be in different when I'm on the field.

You select from your idroid, but you can do that on the ground and are given a choice (usually) of start points to travel to.

I gotta say I
was quite disappointed. The End took me about an hour and a half to do, slowly crawling around the jungle, looking around for him when I first played MGS3.
Quiet's fight took me a single try and was done in about 5 minutes.
It was essentially sit in cover, look for bright flashing, aim at head, shoot. Repeat x4
I feel like they simply added too many hints for finding her. Big jumps for general direction, then running to be a bit more specific, then flashing scope flashing + humming for the found you.

But
the rainbow dancing was fun, I liked that genuinely :D

edit: I had forgotten about it, but I freakin loved
how I was just exploring the the world and suddenly time slowed down and I actually reacted fast enough to slide to the side of D-Horse. And then it's like "hey, Episode 11!"

That I'll definitely keep in mind as one of coolest moments I've experienced in a game.

yea well...
i agree that once you figure it out it's an easy fight. But i guess it is meant to be since she is supposed to be a buddy and you get them pretty early so it should not be too tough

Didn't know you could do slow rolling when on your back.

Controls just feel so tight and responsive.

Just started raining in mother base for the first time while I was listening to cassette tapes.

Where is the medical platform?

It gets built automatically and free of charge after you do a certain mission.

So the game couldn't find save data from ground zeroes. There is save data frim ground zeroes on my PS4 though....

You need to start Ground Zeroes [make sure it's updated] and upload your save from within GZ to Konami's server. There's an option in the start menu. Then, when starting TPP select "download Ground Zeroes save" from the start menu.

Thanx!

Hi everyone, dunno if this has been asked before (apologies if it has) but the only thing I could find googling was a thread on Gamefaqs with no solution, unfortunately, so I turn to GAF.

Has anyone had trouble with the touchpad? I started the game yesterday and after the Prologue I was trying to bring up the iDroid pressing the lower right corner of the touchpad, as the game instructed, but nada. Curiously it brings it up when I press the Options button.

Likewise, I can't pause the game and access the menu because that's set to bottom left touchpad and again, my touchpad is not responding.

I've confirmed it's not the controller, as I have a 2nd controller and that one doesn't work either. Also, touchpad works fine when I use it with other games, it's just MGSV glitching on me.

tl;dr Has anyone else had problems with the touchpad not working and is there a solution? :(

The are all the uniform i have for snake:

Olive Drab
Splitter
Square
Tiger Stripe
Golden Tiger
Animals
Desert Fox
Woodland
Wetwork
Sneaking Suit
Battle Dress

where can i find the rest?

If anyone is interested in a custom cover for the PS4, I made this.

It is originally from the custom cover art thread. I edited it as I saw fit. Copied a lot of stuff from the official cover.

So apparently you can call the helicopter or supply drops just by pressing up/down on D-PAD when you are on the map on the idroid.

I had a problem with my left trigger on GZ where I couldn't ready my weapon. So I was deathly scared I would be fucked on TPP during launch and would have to go out get a new controller for this one game. Luckily it was fine.

"Snake, this is a sneaking mission".

Hey, guys. Before I buy this game I would like to know something about it so a few questions are in order.

1) Is it like in GZ that an enemies can spot you through the tinniest openings and immediately start an alert phase?

2) Is the open world cluttered with collectibles and side quests like in Assassin's Creed games?

3) Do enemies take less hits to take down than in GZ or are headshots still mandatory?

4) Are there any references to Portable Ops? Is Portable Ops validated in any way?

5) Is the theme of Portable Ops (Calling To the Night) in Metal Gear Solid V?

6) Is it possible to miss meeting Quiet or do you always get her on your team?

7) Is NULL in the game?

8) Are there boss battles? And if so are they more like in the original Metal Gear Solid series or more like in Peace Walker?

Loving the game right now and it's thanks to the one aspect I thought was gonna be a detriment and that's building mother base. Also just a note to everyone, I'm sure it's been talked about numerous times in the thread, but once the medical facility is built make sure you check it thoroughly, there's something really cool there that I hope no one has spoiled for you guys.

Duh. That's the same as real rural Afghanistan and Africa and whatever.

I thought the environment just existed as a playing ground for levels to be designed within.

First of all, it's not rural Afghanistan. It's Northern Kabul.

Secondly, I've personally never been to that region of Africa but I assume there's more than one goat or zebra there which is about all I ever saw going out on missions. I didn't see a single snake in this game, or lion, giraffe, or hippo, or elephant. Surely rural Africa has that stuff right?

The open world is designed to be sparse. It's a choice they made. You might not like it.

yes there boss battles it wouldn't be metal gear without boss battles.

Quoting for visibility on new page, this thread moves fast! Hope you guys don't mind, I'm quite gutted about this.

So then why are people being so defensive over it? I made by case, as have several others. What's the problem?

By design choice or not. It's vast and empty. That's just a fact. Doesn't have to be defended, justified, or explained. It is what it is and you either like it or you don't.
