Just a heads-up, but both soundtracks are out today on iTunes.

I won't post the tracklist for obvious reasons, but the track titles are vague enough that they're not direct spoilers to story-related events.

That Konami Online stuff is such pain. Doesn't seem to add anything relevant nor interesting into the game [outside of GZ import] while increases games start time noticeably, iDroid gets a lot slower and missions load slower. More downsides to logging in than upsides.

I'm not sure there's ANY upside if you haven't built an FOB yet. Yeah, the daily "rewards" I guess. Using the iDroid is slow as hell now, it's absurd.

The online combat missions are pathetic. Send a team out on a mission for 10,000 GMP and 1000 Metal, takes them 2 days to finish.

I am so terrible at this game but I am having a blast lol. Got a A at the first time they rank you but got a D on the next one lol. Oh well I will get better.

Dat detailed nose.

Hmm.. For such a massively anticipated game, it doesn't seem to be getting anywhere near as much attention as I would have thought? In terms of threads, news stories, articles, and so forth. Is it because everyone is busy playing it?

Has anyone heard how big the game is, by the way?

Did you see GAF before launch? The 500 hour thread, the spoiler free impressions thread (I am now calling the pre-OT) and a spoiler thread that reached 100 pages before the game even launched. Buzz seems quite high all over from what I've seen.

As for how big it is, I've played for 15 hours and am at 7%. Even then, the game encourages replays.

This game probably has one of the most annoying escort missions I have ever played.

Need to carry one person and give orders to 4 others. It doesn't matter if you tell them to stay, if you go too far away (which isn't far at all) they ignore your orders and start running again so you have to run back and stop them. There's like 14 enemies in total and if it was only them it wouldn't have been as annoying, but of course you have to have a damn chopper above as well. And you really don't want the alarm to go off, because if one of them dies it's game over.

Had to give it 4-5 tries, but still managed to get an S-rank in the end somehow.

Now I really need some sleep, already have 23 hours of playtime..

How do you guys handle the Extract The Wandering Mother Base Soldiers side ops? I chased one of these fucks around forever, tranqs didn't seem to work, so I tried super punching him but he always manages to get his melee off first. Eventually, the tranq worked, I guess it just takes a ton of hits.

Any better strategies than just "chase and tranq over and over"?

Completed Mission 3 and 5 Side-Ops missions. Mission 3 didn't take me an hour, but man it was a mess. So many hits taken and my Heroism took a hit as well. Ended up with a C Rank D:

As for the Side-Ops, I actually liked them. Plenty to explore (collecting/gathering materials and soldiers/animals), and gives me plenty of time to come up with an effective method to infiltrate a base without being detected. Having the weather play a role is also a great bonus. A sandstorm really came in handy when I was trying to escape a base while extracting a prisoner. Multiple soldiers everywhere, low on ammo for my tranquilizer gun (with the suppressor close to going out as well). That sandstorm really saved my ass and the prisoner's too.

And I even managed to get DD during my playthrough. Still a pup but I can't wait to take on him on missions with me. I'll probably get to the main missions so I can expand Mother Base and open up new units.

Any idea on how equip the phantom cigar?

It's in one of your item slots, press the d-pad in one of the directions and you will see it.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this (no real time to scour the thread), but I'm playing it on PS3 and quite honestly I'm astonished at how well it performs and how beautiful the game looks. Yes, there are instances of slowdown, but overall it's perfectly fine to play and it holds well at 30fps.

If you have no other options, then don't hesitate to buy the last gen versions. It really isn't as bad as most people have made it out to be.

..as in this forum? There were 4 MGSV threads alone yesterday that were locked

My exact experience also. Had flashbacks to the absolutely appalling escort mission at the end of MGS3.

No idea how I got an S-Rank on that mission. Eventually I just supply dropped in a launcher and blew the chopper out of the sky. Made things a lot easier.

found this pretty easy, are you using quiet?
if you are, you can just micro manage her to take out the enemy's for you/with you and it's pretty simple.
Imo it's one of the better missions in the game

Agreed, we rarely get
children
in games but the entire feel of the mission was damn good.

EDIT: The tranq sniper is a godsend. Once I unlocked it, I never looked back.

I just throw a mag, sneak up on him and throw that fucker to the ground. On my second one he managed to throw some stun grenade at me first, but still got him right away after that.

When you're sitting in the aerial command center, click and hold the right stick and look at snake's reflection in the helicopter window.

@wanderers
I just headshot those dudes with the tranq gun. No need for auto-aim, reflex or other stuff. Put nightvision on and aim for a clear headshot.

I liked it, except for the fact that I went completely stealth with no kills till the end without raising an alarm only to be spotted by a random helmet wearing douche far on the other side of the chopper landing place at the end. The he raised the alarm and I had to put in those 6 escorts into chopper one by one while I get hit from all side. It was painful

If you happen upon an area while free roaming and destroy their radar / radio, you won't have to worry about it if you come back to the area during a story mission. It's a neat touch.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, you can chip away at their defenses without worrying that they'll will re-appear.

lol..
Maybe check neogaf more often.

Buddies are [hella early spoiler]
random, right? I start episode 4 and already have DD waiting for me to pick him up at the helipad, then I interrogate a soldier after getting the russian translator and now I already know where Quiet is lol. Also since you can pick who you play a mission with - even though I can only play with Big Boss right now - can I hope to play as quiet later?

I haven't been killing anyone so far and I heard guards talking about how I'm a demon who's been murdering the shit out of them.

Kinda makes me wanna murder the shit out of them.

Wut ?

I counted little short of 15 mgsv related threads on the front page yesterday

Gameplay-wise I've never really gotten into stealth games, earlier MGS games included, but this.. Is just fucking amazing. Infiltrating bases, trying to non-lethally get rid of enemies without getting noticed is exhilarating is fuck.

I gotta say, after completing the prologue, I didn't feel it was that great for some reason. I know I'm in the minority, but I felt it was a bit off in rhythm, I don't know... Some graphical aspects didn't help either, like the fire, etc.
I was also put off a bit by the fact that they didn't find them crawling all over the floor while making a whole lot of noise or under the hospital beds. That sequence is problably an hallucination, but still.
(These are all nitpicks, I know)

It was entertaining and I enjoyed it, but wasn't as impactful to me as TLOU's.

Anyway, the visuals look amazing at times, but others they don't look so hot. It's 60fps so it's understandable, although I'm talking about the prologue which is a more closed environment. I suppose it isn't a good idea boosting the visuals for the intro just to dial them back when the game starts.

Now, about the actual gameplay, I have no issues so far. Feels great monitoring the area and planning how you're gonna go in. Controlling BB is as satisfying as in GZ. Think I'm going to have a lot of fun with this one providing that Mother Base doesn't ruin my whole experience.

Hey so I am curious regarding resources and upgrades:

Does mother base ever start producing it's own resources and or gmp?

Is there a recommended upgrade list? I tend to struggle to decide what to spend stuff on but I feel like I should get investing early on in this game?

WOW at the optional medical platform cutscene. Can anyone explain how
Paz survived
. Dont really wanna know if it explains later in the story.

Do not click below if you haven't discovered the secret room on Mother Base:

Make sure every time you complete the wandering MB soldier side op you return to Paz. I'm going to assume the memento pics are going to be the key to restoring her memory...? You get some cassette tapes sometimes, too.

Mission 20:

Was anyone else super disappointed you couldn't pick up the P.T. tape you can hear on the radio in one of the camps? Such a cruel tease.

Is this room available at anytime to find? Or only at a certain point?

Is there a way to call in the chopper and have it drop you off on another part of the map?
I can do it on mother base but when I'm out in the field the chopper just flies me out of the map.

Played through the Prologue and the first Mission last night.

Goddamn, I'm gonna have to brush up on my skills and get good.

Pretty crazy how many options you have available to you to do stuff.

But I'm liking the game so far.

Will I be ok just relying on auto-sort for Mother Base personnel, or are there any oddities with it I should know about.

I dislike lots of fillers, replaying missions and having to do small objectives to progress the main story.

It is what makes me stop playing moat games but this is Metal Gear, so I'll complete it.

Spent over an hour on Episode 5 with several retries because I kept doing something dumb. The checkpoint was right outside the compound so I essentially had to do it from scratch each time. But it was all worth it because it doesn't count all the alerts and shit if you die! I refined my plan and approach each time, so the experience of knowing where all the guards and objectives were was pretty helpful. In the end, I cleared everything perfectly, got out, summoned my horse, then a friend messaged me over Steam and I got distracted and rode the horse off a cliff and died AGAIN. Luckily it triggered a checkpoint just before that, or I would be fucking crying. Lolololol.

You should be fine. The only time I manually manage it is when I want to develop something specific so I send a bunch of guys to the necessary unit temporarily.

Edit: Also watch out for troublemakers and try to balance them with diplomats.
