The credits are such a bad element in such a great game. Not only are they immersion breaking, they also spoil stuff. It's also irritating to see the same thing over and over again.

Hoping someone creates a mod to take them out.

I agree they are a bad design choice but you know you can press X to instantly skip them right?

So regarding destroying enemy hardware:

1) Is destruction permanent? If I destroy a power source in an area, will it stay destroyed, or will it come back after a period of time?

2) What's the benefit of destroying comms equipment? Enemies seem to be able to just use their radios anyway.

Ha, the wife just bought this for me as a surprise, so I'll have a crack this evening hopefully.

How will I get on!?

I haven't played a MGS since MGS1 many years ago
I'm famously bad at stealth games

Looking forward to it.

don't worry: you can rambo the shit. :D

Those small satellite dishes with a little box next to it with a blue light, how do I destroy it?

I thought I could just walk up and disable it but that didn't work.

I'm guessing you need to destroy it with explosives, but Im afraid that will alert nearby guards.

If it is a bigger outpost you can also shoot the command panel, the big radio set, that has lots of blue blinking lights, like the one you see in the first mission where you have to infiltrate that town, which name escapes me. If you shoot that, the entire comms network will go down.

Also you can plant c4 and then blow up all the relays when you are at a safe distance, the town will go into an alert stage but they can't call the other outposts since you just blew up their only means of doing so..

1) Permanent for however long you stay in the entire region I believe.

2) Enemies won't be able to call for back up from other settlements and bases.

If Konami release a patch that remove those credits, I wonder if people will go all f*ck konami or not

Use c4 if you want to remain stealthy.

The guards will not go into Combat mode, just Alert mode which is basically this games Caution mode and Combat is this games Alert mode.

Can someone oultine the differences between combat / alert / caution modes, and how to know which mode enemies are in, and what triggers said modes?

1) i think they stay destroyed. but need confirmation (they may respawn after a while)
2) they can radio among themselves but they can't call for backup from other bases nor alert other bases (sometimes they tighten security everywhere)

So...I got a D on the first mission after the prologue. I need to read some beginners tips for this game if I want to get any better at it. Any suggestions?

Make use of marking enemies with your scope.

First person view is the best way to get headshots.

Your position matters a lot. Stealth prone (hold triangle while prone) > Prone >>> Crouch Walk > Standing > Sprinting

Check your corners by moving the camera around.

Use night vision for nighttime.

What defines Perfect Stealth / No kills?

I've done runs without killing anyone or being seen outside of CQC interrogation. Is it literally just doing the objective and interacting with no enemy?

I would like to hear the answer to this as well. I realize S is perfect, but I beat up one single buy on a mission and other than that they never knew I was there so I suppose it's no enemy interaction?

It also seems like this game is somewhat harder than the normal difficulty on previous Metal Gear games as enemies have better eyesight and hearing.

Really enjoying the game so far. Still pretty early. Was doing a side op in Afghanistan and came across a tape cassette. And on this cassette
was the sounds of a man with diarrhea
. Never change Kojima.

WTF just happened with my Steam download. Earlier I was already at 39% now it's back to 16%! My download speed isn't that great so it frustrates me that it's taking longer for me to play this game.

I also have this on PS3.

There is no Caution mode,I meant that MGSV's Alert is like the Caution mode from older games lol

Basically Alert mode you are still hidden but enemies are more cautious. If theh find a body, hear a gunshot, get shot at, or hear an explosion they go into Alert.

Combat mode is the one to avoid. They know where you are.

There is a small, small amount of time where a guard sees you before they go into Combat mode.

Scout as many foes with the binoculars as you can first. Never be in full standing mode, crawl when you are close to foes.

is there a point to not do a tactical takedow? As in making them dizzy and not kill them?

It might take some time, but foes will wake up eventually.

You get intel calls explaining it. While the phases aren't as cut-and-dry as the previous games it can still be somewhat categorized in a functionally similar way. Combat mode is, well, exactly what it says on the tin. They'll be alerted to your position and try to engage you in combat. Alert mode means they're aware that you're around but they can't locate you, so they make extended sweeps over your last known location. Caution means that they assume you're completely off the radar but they still maintain more security than normal. The last one is somewhat of an extended phenomenon but it's generally safe to roam. Alert mode is possible to trigger without going into Combat (usually through explosions or other distractions).

Credits are fine by me, totally ignorable...

The install bug (PS4) sucked, however. Got past it by closing the game, ejecting the disc and then reinsert/restart the game, but waiting through those 5 minutes of cutscenes to check if it worked, not fun...

So, the white arc means they are alerted?, what does the white ! denote?, combat mode only happens after you've been in reflex mode and you haven't dealt with the threat?

What is needed to go from an A rank to S for a mission?

I cannot imagine there is a set formuma.

Go faster. Go stealthier. Do not kill enemies. And never ever use Reflex. If you fail 1 of these conditions S rank is still possible. It varies from mission to mission. Not all S ranks are created equally.

Alert is when enemy found you and you fail to kill him during reflex mode. Enemies in the area will come and shoot at you, caution is when enemies know there are intruder in the area but don't know your location, like enemy finding a dead body, or someone you tranq/choke woke up, or you explode c4 or bomb in the area the map in your idroid will have circular area marked as where the enemy think you are, they'll sweep the area to find you.

in mission 20 does anyone know how to
extract the burning man? is it possible? his sidekick keeps blowing up the fulton once I down him

You can fail all of the bonus conditions and still get S Ranks.

Time and bonus objectives are biggest point earners.

Anyone?

So a couple of questions about the prologue :
- Can I replay it? I got an A and OCD in me wants to get an S, I just finished it and the game went straight to mission 1

- Was that face you get to choose how Snake looks now? Or just how he was supposed to look like if the surgery would have taken place?

- Do we get to know who the heck is Ishmael?

- And lastly, wasn't that re-encounter between Big Boss and Ocelot a little bit on the anticlimactic side? "Hi I'm Revolver Ocelot, you know me " after the events of MGS 3 that re-encounter was kind of meh

Ah, ok, that explains it better, is there a difference between the "white arc" and a white !?

Music tape question, spoilers I guess:
Is the David Bowie version of The Man Who Sold the World in the game or is it just the Midge Ure version?

So killing is the way to go if need be. *if* you don't care about ranking.
Killing is actually a valid method this time. You can kill all you want and still get S rank as long as you're fast and not rising any alert. What you get for non kill run in a mission is just an extra bonus point, which if you're quick enough in completing your mission, makes up for not getting the non kill bonus

White arc means an enemy sort of notices you but isn't sure. He might be coming to investigate or he might remain at his post. He might even radio in to CP that he sees someone suspicious. It's meant to show you enemy position, and you can turn off the white arc in the menu.

White ! means they notice something is up, like if you just tranquilized a nearby guard and his buddy sees him crumple to the floor. Red ! means they see you.

If you're using Reflex mode, then yes Combat mode happens if you fal. You'll also note that Combat mode is usually accompanied by a blaring siren and a change in music.

There is no Caution or traditional Alert mode in MGSV.

Alert is the new Caution, Combat is the new Alert.

If you would need 0 kills for a S then this game would have rendered all its weaponry useless, I don't think that's the case.

This seems to be my experience thus far.

Edit: without the S ranks of course :p

Btw DD as a puppy is so cute, his little walking animation is cute. Also it looks funny when you arrive at mother base and you hop out of helicopter your in ur squatting stance and he runs to you it looks like when I used to play with my dog when it was a puppy. In my head I can hear big boss baby talking to DD as he gets off the helicopter

As ZeroX03 pointed out you can fail bonuses and still make S. But those bonuses DO help.

But just so you're aware, yes that absolutely HAS been the case for MULTIPLE MGS games. To get highest rank you would ignore 90% of the game's weapons. MGS4 is a huge offender haha

I accidently kicked him when I was messing with the guards. He just laid there long enough for me to panic before he got up.

I'm traumatized.
