I want to eat those animals, damn it!

Just so I can hear Snake critique food.

"DELICIOUS!"

"I WANT SOME MORE!"
I thought it was pretty great when the games telling you about collecting animal that someone basically says look man I know you like eating anything that moves, but we need them alive this time.

I nearly forget the huge protip I learned last night (I don't know the controller equivalent, sorry):

Press H for a help screen on any Mother Base menu. It'll give a description of the different categories currently on screen, and even give a little explanation as to how the various systems work. Try it for yourself!
It's the button that makes you aim your gun. You just take their gun and aim it instead.
Ah, this is a good, controller-neutral explanation. Thanks.

Also, from a hint: sneak up to an enemy and aim your weapon at them to have them disarm themselves peacefully. I'm assuming it works as described.
Pff, non-lethal. They're dirty Soviets. Remember that.

...and 90% of Motherbase's staffing.

Shame that this is the last true MGS game, another game could really fix some of these issues.

Other than the game botching some of the basics of open world 101, I still think it's the best MGS game. It's by far the most repayable, and has such tight and responsive controls. Makes it a joy to play, and it just feels great. Never cared for the long pointless cutscenes of that plagued some of the other games. Not so say they were all bad, but I don't really miss them.

While on the maps, I try to use the long ass empty travels between outpost to listen to cassette tapes. The game is so rich in its gameplay and depth, but absolutely empty when it comes to side content. As posted above, MB is boring as fuck and there isn't much to do there. So you're always trying to play the game where it's best, because everything around it just seems shallow.

GTA3 series had numerous problems with person-length walls not being able to be climbed over. GTA4 had similar issues. It's nice that GTA5 fixed it, but let's not gloss over that climbing issues is an open-world sandbox issue.

Assassin's Creed and the like have numerous bugging out on climbing over shit and sometimes don't even allow you to climb obvious height things. To dock MGS for it is kinda stupid.

So I'm only about a mission in, finished the prologue and mission 1. I'm guessing the story is front loaded because if it continues like this after every main mission, the cutscene content isn't all that different from previous mgs games, it's just the gameplay side has increased in length.

I have a few questions though for the future when I start it up again, maybe later tonight.

If I'm in the middle of the mission, and quit, will I have to do the whole mission all over again, or will it start me from the last checkpoint? I honestly forced myself to finish the first mission despite being really tired because i wasn't sure about that.

2nd, are silencers/supressors only gained via finding them in the field/at the start of a mission, or is there some sort of system that comes into place where you can go into a mission with a bunch of them on hand, maybe something having to do with motherbase development.

Sorry if I'm late to the party regarding the soundtrack, the OT moves so quickly.

They're the songs made specifically for the game, not 3rd party songs.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/id1030633511

I think there is a JP release of the 3rd party songs (i think i saw on amazon jp), including Nuclear, but I couldn't find it anywhere else

And yes XD It is amazing

Yeah shame that it seems only the Japanese disc release has all the third party songs on it:

Amazon JP listing

Vs the iTunes OST album

Motherbase needs a lot more interaction with its staff. Or some.

I'd like to salute my guys if nothing else. I feel like an asshole when they all salute me and welcome me home and thank me for being so awesome, and I just stare at them and walk away.

Though I suppose that's in character. The only person he ever saluted was The Boss.

I'm struggling with the game if i'm honest. There are a lot of issues i have with it. From visuals, to sound (they need more foley sounds for footsteps and rattling gear) but the biggest offender is the repetition and broken progressions in regards to the weapons and items that would alleviate some of that repetition.

I'm bored of perching on a cliff and marking targets. I'm bored of sneaking around the same reused assets and locations doing the exact same thing because the game has locked out alll the non lethal gadgets... Its a boring game to play. And the things that would add some variety takes an age to be able to craft. Silenced snipers both tranq and lethal take too long to aquire.

The game feels like far cry 2 or just cause. A game that allows freedom but it's at the expense of it being interesting. Even the world, while realistic looking, is just boring to look at and frustrating to traverse. I'm huge.y dissapointed by this game and my only hope is that it picks up later...

I'm very early in the game and have the option to call my house or tell an enemy to lay down. But Snake won't do it. Do I have to unlock those abilities, or am I doing something wrong?

You need an interpreter. You'll get it in just a little so just play.

There's a real cognitive dissonance between how people treat Snake and how Snake himself acts... in everything but cassettes. It's Silent Protagonist Syndrome and I'm afraid it's terminal.

I haven't even played the other Metal Gear Solids and I'm still baffled as to why they changed VO's.

And yet I don't hear a single Russian accent while inspecting my troops!

They were clearly briefed on how to behave when Big Boss is around. Just try some cardbox box shenanigans--no one will bat an eye.

It's how you know the soldiers are well-trained and good at what they do.

Not reading much of this thread because I want to avoid spoilers, but are the outrageously long load times and menu issues because I'm logged into the server? I don't remember the loads taking this long yesterday.

How are you locked out of non lethal gadgets? I started with an assault rifle. You can also take out guards and pick up their weapons. All of them are lethal, you even get a non tranq handgun really early on.

Nothing's wrong. He'll show up after you complete your first mainline mission, I think.

The guys you saved trickle back in from GZ over time.

I'm not on my first mission tho, ive been playing for 3 hours and it's finaly now that the stupid servers finaly let me log in. I logged in and transfered my save data, i do see my old suit, but thats all. As for kojima he no where to be found. ... or do you mean I need to do a main mission NOW after i did the transfer?

Kinda makes you wonder how they regard him so highly.

The only plausible answer I've got is "silent warrior cult leader" who abuses his followers and they don't give a shit. But I'm confused as to whether that was Kojima's intent, or just a result of making him so quiet in-game.

I was on youtube watching gameplays since I get the game tomorrow and I see a lot of people complaining about the dude using night vision. Is there a problem with it or something??

Won't lie, that last bit is pretty neat, never thought of that.

I beat the shit out of them instead. They always seem happy that I took the time to slam them into the ground.

There's nothing wrong with it if you're just playing. I can see it being annoying from a spectator's POV, though. You want to see the whole environment and the game is green and yellow 24/7.

Does depleting quiets health kill her or will I still be able to recruit her?

My medic team still has 2 levels to go before I can make the tranq rifle

So, does anyone know why exactly am I fultoning a whole zoo back to motherbase? What does that give us exactly? Cos so far.. I see no benefit from it.

Off to a good start, rescued Kaz, got 500k+ GMP from exploring and grabbing him only on the 3rd day, which was more than enough to buy everything I could research.
Now I'm going back to fulton everyone and finish any objectives I missed.

My real only complaint so far is that I wish I could get rid of Venom's goddamn ponytail, I want the mullet.

Yes this is why I have always wondered why Kojima wanted to make Big Boss more of a silent protagonist who embodies the player. Because he is already an established character with his own personality.

It bugs me when people.ask Big Boss things and he doesn't even react. Even his reactions as heard in tapes are enough had they made it to the cutscenes.

AC at least puts climbing points everywhere. If one or two are buggier or missing who's to judge? its just a thing that happens with open world games. MGSV has basically put you in a world where you need to climb things to get to vantage points or to get to objectives but then forgot to actually put those points in the game. Also it puts invisible walls in places like a knee high wall in the middle of a mission area for no reason. It's broken on a mechanical and design level.

I have the strangest urge to buy some J.F. Rey™ Eyewear.

Also, I kind of wish the thread title was "The Man Who Sold The Open World"

I think a part of it is Kojima trying out some new Western mechanics, but since it's his first go, it's kind of like a faun learning to walk. It's a big, free open world so he's trying the mechanic of using a silent protagonist as an outlet for the players themselves to nail down that the world is their personal playground, but the character is already established so that connection is going to be... really conflicted.

Is there any point to using anything besides the Stealth Suit after you get? Realistically it's not great camo, but it was pretty good in almost every environment in Peacewalker and MGS3. Since there's no camo meter I don't really know.
