The Taken King's Launch Rollout: 2.0 on the 8th w/ Crucible Preview, Raid on the 18th

I can't believe I'm saying this... but this 2.0 patch will get me to put the Destiny disc back into my PS4. The leveling itself is enough for me to boot it up. I dropped off after TDB even though I had a season pass.. still have the Clan-Strikes & Various raider trophies (clan raid and flawless) left so I'll hop in and look to finally plat it.

So I've recently gotten back into Destiny, got up to lvl 20, beat the last main story mission
(I assume, the one with the heart in the sky and the 3 statues)
and I've really enjoyed my time with the game, to where I'm considering getting TTK.

This has probably been answered, but is TTK available as an expansion DLC? I think I saw somewhere where I HAD to get the previous two expansions in order to just get the TK content. The other option is to just spend $60.00 again for a lot of content I already have?

best thing to do would be to spend 60 and sell the disc. That's your cheapest choice and it's stupid that it is but that's how they've decided to keep everyone kept up to date in terms of content.

Whose gonna be adequately prepared for such a difficult thing in merely 3 days?

Just getting good new weapons seems like it would take weeks.
3 days is a lot of time for people who play the game too much. Dgaf will be ready, my clan will be ready, the hardcore community will be ready (that's primarily who the raids cater too anyways). That's not even getting into the updated and improved loot system and infusion system.

If you have the DLCs you can get TTK for 40 dollars digitally, if you don't have the dlcs then I'd go with the 60 dollar TTk edition. It will be cheaper that way.

Will play a bit on the 8th and decide if I want to go day one on the expansion. Excited to see if all these changes add up to something tangibly better for me.

Doesn't 2.0 go live on the 8th? I would think the level 40 cap would also be raised there as well and since Light items are separate from Level, you could just grind to 40 within a week and not worry about TTK loot to boost you.

Just realized.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo.

There is no time from today to next week to finish MGSV.

My life is in danger.

I pre-ordered digital collector's version yesterday it unlocked the 2 DLC for me but I was surprised I still needed my retail disk to play it

hopefully the 18GB is what will free me from disk?

I did the same thing, you need to delete the disc install and redownload. All your character stuff is saved server side btw.

If you already have game installed you will patch over Internet. If you order disc you can uninstall then install from disc.

To clarify: my PS4 will show up bundled with what I assume is the Legendary Edition. I'm aware that the expansions/DLC are just voucher codes and not actually on that disc. If I set up my PS4, then pop in that disc, will I need to install that huge patch in addition to the expansions/DLC?

Anyone know an upgrade path for digital owners of destiny who have season pass? I just want taken king.
40 bucks for TTK is your cheapest option

levling system is most likely not gonna jump in on the 8th. That would defeat the purpose of progressing through the story.

You disc is just a physical license. All data is on your PS4. Just because you downloaded the licenses for the dlc (and vanilla) doesn't mean it overrides your original license. So you have to delete the original install (which relies on the disc license) and download the digital install which will rely on your account licenses.

Yeah I'm gonna have my console on rest mode just for the occasion.

ok hope I deleted the right thing 7GB download still seems tiny for this game it says update file :(

I wonder if I deleted the right thing

I deleted using the option button

Is this confirmed?

Will we still be using vanguard and crucible marks between the 8th and the 15th?
Not 100% confirmed, but I think it's definitely likely. So far the new level cap is tied to the release of new content, and the new missions seem aimed at getting you to 40 for the quests, Nightfall, etc. that come after.

So I haven't played since the first expac. How hard would it be to get back in during taken king?
Very easy, and probably more fun than doing so before 2.0 hits. Since you go from 1-40 based entirely on XP (no raid gear to chase) you'll get there just playing the missions/patrols/srikes/etc. naturally.

When 2.0 drops on the 8th will the shader/banner/weapon banks be up too?
This I'm not sure about and hope they address it in the BWU tomorrow. I'm assuming all the new Tower stuff lands on the 15th, unless they say otherwise.

Ah, I'm afraid to delete shaders and banners, but really looking forward to clearing them out.

I played Destiny until level 20 and then I sold it. I'm still confused about what they're adding and making better in this game, and what it entails. Someone must have compiled a list of stuff, right? I don't know why it's worth giving another shot, and even if I do want to do that I have no idea what I even need to buy.

one of the many lists available..?

Regarding main gameplay; they are going to change the levelling system and everything will be 'questified' to make things a bit more coherent. They're changing tons of other things as well.

this is dope will save me so much pain for grinding up the other 2 classes I've ignored so far

took forever to get my Hunter to level 9 this week I gave up for now
stuck at 31 for my Titan
still need to start a Warlock

yeah that will help why was this not a day 1 thing smh

I really, really, REALLY hope they keep the Pack of Wolves prowling events. I hated when they removed the Blades of Crota stuff, I can live with it now, but the PoWs are really fun. It would be a shame to lose them.

So what exactly does "questification" mean when it comes to the old content?

All missions (and certain bounties) are part of a 'questline'. A questline takes up a special slot in the Quests screen. For example; the vanilla missions 'Sword of Crota' will fit in to the The Dark Below quest, Scourge of Winter will fit into House of Wolves. Unlocking your subclasses will also work with quests, and even Crucible will have quests. Some screens:

I think this is the wrong way to treat dlc they sold only a few months ago, terrible bungie, terrible.

Agreed. More so since apparently The Taken King can be played as early as 24. Meaning, what reasons is there to do VoG, TDB, and HoW, if you will probably go to the 30's or even to 40...

They REALLY need to patch in a Very Hard Vault of Glass and Crota's End. Along with some new level's of difficulty of PoE. Hell, Prison of Elder's should be an ongoing thing that is updated as time goes on. Eventually they should add a Taken Room. I mean, it makes sense. If you need to own the previous 2 DLC, you shouldn't abandon them.

I did the digital download on PS4 (the codes they were giving out for 30). So if I buy the $60 edition, what does it comes with besides the base game and TTK? I'm trying to figure out the best math here.

EDIT: NM, answered my own question. I've decided I'm going to get TTK anyway, there looks to be enough new content and the revised leveling system should be a plus (not liking the light armor system here). Thanks for your help.

Having proper questlines that tie everything together is a great idea, and what should have been there from day 1. I'm actually kinda looking forward to leveling up my first titan.

Really want to get into this game again after ditching it 3 weeks after launch but I have no time to do anything except play through my backlog a bit (which I prefer at this point). Also minimal irl friends who play Destiny

Doubt it. The Trial is in a weird limbo state between 1.1 and 1.2.
Oh the demo trial. They already confirmed it'll be updated as well IIRC

Come and play with destiny gaf. We're always playing and willing to help

time to start over........again and enjoy it.

If the new systems are in place for leveling, that means the not so RNG gear adjustments are in as well? Would love to see the difference in gear advancement compared to launch. Will be nice getting crap I can actually use.

Gear and weapon drops are already greatly improved from launch but I see what you're saying.

yes, the new smart loot system is what I'm talking about

In Destiny The Taken King, the loot system will be more intelligent about the stuff it drops after a battle. The idea is to have users get more gear that they need and less gear that they’ve already had or have currently in their inventory.

If this is part of 2.0 thats awesome

honestly, if i could get a cheap copy of TTK i think I would buy it again just to give it another try. Thats a rather large amount of changes.

A ton of the TTK changes are actually a part of the 2.0 update itself, so you can always try the base game again and see what you think of those changes to see if it's worth paying for TTK.

I'll be switching over from Xbox to PS4 on the 15th. Still can't decide between a Thor Titan or Palpatine Warlock for my new character :| Wish we could get 2 of the level bump item.

Can somebody explain what the "questification" of the base game means? I don't have any of the DLCs.

What is changing for me when I play the game with this huge (in file size) 2.0 patch? I haven't played the game since like a month or two after launch, and nothing stopped me from playing except that I was just kind of bored from the repetitive nature of it.

I hope Bungie addresses this as I have felt the same way. Unless they pull a HoW later on and reward players something similar to etheric light to boost Year 1 gear and weapons.

Bungie likely wants to keep the content they are releasing now relevant. Anyone can go back and do the old raids. Also I really hope they don't upgrade year 1 loot at all. Keep the new stuff relevant. There's already updated exotics. That's enough.
